Another downside, for me, is that when they order any kind of test, the order has an expiration date in a week or two. I'm a senior, don't drive, and suffer from fibromyalgia with severe fatigue. All the orders from my independent drs are good for 6-12 mos! I'm guessing that large medical corporations serve a wider variety of clients, often across the entire country, so some are unreliable and do things without discussing with their drs, ergo the corporate CYA policies. Ok, but that's not me, and the independent drs I've always seen know that. Computers do not. I'm now 65 and the doctors I was with for 25+ years straight are retiring sadly. Or going "concierge" style. I got a phone message saying that my dr won't be in the day my next appt is set after all. AGAIN!! ! Each time it's ANOTHER 3-4 months before they can fit me in. Because of my fatigue added to being a lifelong "night owl", I can only do afternoon appts. I can't get to sleep until at least 3 am most nights. I also had to change my phone's "do not disturb" settings because UCLA calls at 7 am. All my life I have been taught it's rude to call others at home before 9 am. So I never get to talk to the office or person that called, since when I call back it's routed to that call center. Extremely impersonal. No one there has ANY medical training, not even receptionist level, all they do is look for open spaces on a computer screen. No empathy, and zero offers of any other way to schedule an appointment or ask a question- you have to push for any of that. When I use the app, I can interact directly with my dr's office, but it's still a series of steps from who reads my message, to a nurse or other medical assistant, to the dr, then back to me. This leads to very poor information sharing. I prefer a much more individualized approach.

I'm genuinely disappointed to be writing this because when I first started seeing Dr. Perez, I…read moreappreciated her directness. She wasn't overly warm, but she was clear, professional, and approachable. Over the past year, though, my experience has shifted, and based on other reviews, it seems I'm not alone. About a year ago, she stopped accepting my insurance. I chose to continue care and pay out of pocket ($250 per visit) because I valued our established relationship. That felt worthwhile, until this recent experience. I called ahead to let the office know I would be 3-5 minutes late, thinking it was the respectful thing to do. During that call, I was informed for the first time of a new late policy: if you are late, you won't be seen, and if you reschedule, there's a $50 charge. This policy had never been communicated to me previously, nor had I signed anything acknowledging it. I expressed that I understood I was late and was completely willing to accept a shortened appointment, whether that meant a few minutes in person or even a quick phone call. I was trying to be flexible and respectful of her time. Unfortunately, Dr. Perez declined all options, including speaking with me briefly by phone. When I arrived, about five minutes late, I remained in the office during what would have been my scheduled appointment time. Dr. Perez moved in and out of a room nearby but did not acknowledge me, make eye contact, or offer any explanation or empathy. After three years as a patient, that lack of basic communication and care was honestly the most upsetting part. Because of that experience, I won't be returning. This wasn't about a policy; it was about how I was treated in that moment.

When I first signed on with Dr. Perez, I felt that she was a competent doctor who could help me…read moreparticularly get to the bottom of my symptoms. She proactively assigned certain tests which I appreciated. I felt that she was a bit direct in her communication and also a bit rushed but it wasn't too big of a deal. Over the last few years however, the experience has just gotten worse and worse. They are extremely strict about being late (by even a minute or two. I wish I was exaggerating). I am always punctual but I had a family member who was only 5 minutes late and they cancelled the appointment. Appointment scheduling also takes months, even if there is something serious going on. The last straw was me going to the pharmacist to pick up monthly medicine I need to take and being told that my Dr Perez refused to renew my prescription (even though I need to take this medicine) and left a note for the pharmacy saying she needs to come in for an appointment. The irony in this is that I had an upcoming appointment scheduled on the books (which also I had to schedule 3-4 months out) with her already. So she clearly had not talked with her staff or they hadn't communicated with her before she did this. And even if I didn't have an appointment scheduled, refusing to renew someone's prescription of medicine they NEED is just so unethical in my opinion and feels like some way of forcing someone to come in so you can charge them. As time went on I just started to feel anxiety dealing with her or her office and that is not the kind of care I want. I also felt kind of dismissed when i suggested potential specialists I could see as well. Anyways, just overall, she might be a competent doctor but her and her office are unwelcoming and harsh! And I think care should be both competent, kind and respectful.

I gave birth to twins when my older son was 2-1/2. I had pre eclampsia and difficulty gaining the strength I needed to take care of them as I wanted. After seeing him and not improving, I called him again and he said impatiently that he had other really sick patients who needed him and why was I bothering him. He reluctantly ordered a chest xray and it turned out I had pneumonia. I don't know why it took him several months to order such a simple thing, when I had symptoms all along. Some time later I had another chest xray prior to sinus surgery. There was a visible lump/growth in my lung of unknown origin. Dr Margolis' advice was to wait and have another xray in 6 months. This was unsatisfactory to me. On my own I went to a pulmonologist to address the situation. I left his practice.

Front office, not a medically trained individual, tried to push me away until I insisted on seeing the doctor. Then she added I could see the doctor but only talk about cough not other symptoms like lightheaded and fatigued. I was probably in my 30-early 40 when I was at this doctor. This doctor is respected by his peers, but he gets a 1-2 star. His Ability to explain things clearly to patient = 1. He asked if I had a symptom. I didn't understand what he was talking about and so I just I told him this is what I am feeling. He asked again not trying to explain another way. When I again said I don't understand what you mean. He still didn't try to explain himself and then he dismissed how I was feeling. He said OK you don't have vertigo or dizziness. Uh but the room goes foggy, and I feel like I will faint not normal is that? Dismissed symptom as no problem. How can he properly diagnosis conditions if he doesn't understand or listen to patient's symptoms? Arrogance = 5*. Worse office experience ever had. I ended up with better care at urgent care. Save your money pay concierge fees with a doctor who cares and a front office assistant that doesn't act like she is a licensed professional. If you like doctors that don't spend time and have no patience, then this doctor is of you.

This review is for the medical practice rather than Dr. Tenenbaum himself…read more I've been a patient of Dr. Tenenbaum (technically one of his physician's assistants...you know the deal) for about 3 years. My medical history is pretty normal, so there isn't much to cover here: go in, get blood work done, get reminded that I have such-and-such value that is slightly above the norm for the population. Rinse, repeat. What drove me away from this practice (other than the 2020 pandemic...) is that Dr. Tenenbaum transitioned his practice to...concierge medicine. This artificially reduces the number of available physicians in the area, ultimately driving up medical costs for patients who do not necessarily need 24/7 support. I cannot ethically support this business practice, despite having the privilege of being able to pay an extra $200/mo for a service that I will likely not benefit significantly from...at least in the short term. I request that physicians reconsider going 100% concierge and consider a hybrid practice model. Allow those who cannot afford concierge medicine the ability to unlock a variety of physicians in the area. Healthcare is challenging enough as it is in this country...please don't add to the problem.
