When I signed up online, I was initially put on the wait list. I called and spoke to Madeline the day before and she went ahead and confirmed I would be in the class. She told me to arrive 15 mins early, and to bring a water and grippy socks. If I didn't have any, they had some for purchase inside the club. (Side note, you can get a 3pk from Marshall's for 9.99!) When I arrived, Madeline greeted me, had me sign the waiver and off I went. Upon first glance in the studio, it looked a wee bit intimidating since there was all this equipment and I knew none of what it was for. Amy, who was a sub instructor, led our class and was very thorough with all her instructions and demonstrations. Prior to the start of class, she went through and asked each person on any previous/current injuries and how to best make adjustments. The class was challenging at times but fun. Once we finished, Madeline explained the different tier memberships, as well as the different classes offered and where the other locations were. I highly recommend the intro class to anyone looking to get a feel of what Pilates is. I can't wait to come back.

TLDR: exploitative membership terms, excessive penalties, poor quality instruction, and…read morenegligent/hostile management. Don't believe all the 5-star reviews, they solicit these with give-aways and raffles. Notice many of the reviews are from accounts that rarely ever review (especially on Google). Exploitative Membership Terms: If you want to buy more than a drop in class, PLNK puts you on auto renew / bill when you sign up, then restricts your ability to cancel in advance of the next billing cycle (must request in email 10 days in advance of the billing date). This keeps you locked in. Additionally, they heavily restrict the booking window on their passes. Classes are always booked out two weeks in advance. So, you're stuck with class passes you can't use, which then expire. This has happened to me on numerous occasions and at $30-35/class this really hurts. Excessive Penalties: They also penalize you with an extra $20 fee in addition to the $35 class fee you if you don't show up, and $15 fee if you cancel within 24 hours. They then take your space and give it to someone on the waitlist. If that person isn't there in person to take your spot when you no-show or last minute cancel, they are also charged a no-show fee. This is how they turn a $35 seat in their class into a $90+ seat. Negligent / Hostile Management: You aren't allowed to speak or interact with management -- they cite personal safety concerns (??) -- and instead put all the responsibility for dealing with guest complaints to their front desk staff who are unpaid interns. If you do manage to reach management via their anonymously maintained studio email addresses, they will gaslight you and and threaten you with being banned from the studio. I had this experience first hand and their harassment continued after I cancelled my membership and left the studio. Poor Quality Instruction / Injury Risk Finally, the quality of the instruction in low with teachers turning over really quickly and minimal training. Many teachers either are unable to or were not trained to describe the physiology of the movements, instead relying on branded names for each, and assuming you know it. When you look around the studio you always see many people looking confused and looking at each other for guidance. The risk of injury is high here.

Weights are involved in some exercises, but a lot of it involves lifting your own body weight. Lots of sweating and shaking of legs (they really work your butt muscles), but they encourage the shaking because it usually means you're truly challenging yourself. They also offer alternative positions if the default ones are just not working for you. I have only seen women in the classes, which I prefer because I feel a sense of camaraderie with them. Even if I have to modify my exercises, I always feel accomplished at the end. Since joining, my balance has gotten better, and my ab and butt muscles are stronger! Instructors are very motivational and friendly. During the classes, they sort of cheer you on, and they will walk around to check in with people individually, asking them how they are feeling and helping them make adjustments if necessary. They also make an effort to remember people's names. Bathroom is very clean! I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because the normal monthly membership is a little expensive for me. Could they offer a deal like, commit to 4 months and you get $20 off your monthly dues? Overall, I really enjoy Barre3, and it has helped my physical and mental wellness. **I would also like to add that the pictures in the description are accurate. Some companies will use pictures that are misleading and not representative of what the location actually looks like. Not the case with this one. They keep it very clean.**

Signed up for the 2-week unlimited thanks to Yelp and am completely infatuated with this class. The studio - modern, open, clean, cork floors, bathroom amenities. The instructors - I've had 5 different instructors in 9 classes and all were nice yet challenging. Sometimes hard to breakdown the move from words alone so mirrors were key in following along. The workout - I'm usually a gym/run rat but have dabbled in some class addictions. But, this class pushes me to my limits and fatigue my muscles. A great cardio, rear and core workout. Unfortunately, I'll be headed home to HI after 2 weeks here in STL and will need to breakup with you, Barre3. It was good while it lasted.

One day last month, I randomly decided to just DO SOMETHING. Anything! And I found Just Pilates STL. I was intimidated signing up, because I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The inner (and outer, lol) chubby kid within me hates working out around others, but I thought I'd give it a go. Immediately upon walking in the studio for the first time, Natalie greeted me with a huge smile and loads of encouragement. She helped me realize it's okay to meet your body where it's at, and you don't have to be perfect right away...you just have to try. I have never felt so at home so quickly, where I'm welcomed and wanted. Each class since, I am greeted with that same enthusiasm, both from Natalie and the other classmates. We all share one goal: healthy movement. Nobody in the class is trying to outdo you, they're focused on themselves! If you're like me, and you do not like being perceived while working out, but you also hate going to the gym...this is for you. I promise it is NOT scary whatsoever, it is probably the thing I am most grateful for finding in 2025. Thank you Natalie and crew, I am so so grateful for you and this studio!!!!

The next two teachers didn't work as well for me - clearly knew their stuff, but weren't oriented toward beginners and seemed irritated when I would ask questions. I emailed the owner, Melissa, to give her some feedback on this and ask her advice. When I sent that message - friendly, complimentary of much of my experience while critical of the lack of beginner support - I expected a response in kind. Instead, I got some of what seemed like random boilerplate ("we offer group exercise classes" - yes, I know, I've been to three of them!), some defensiveness ("my teachers have worked here for five years!"), and some PR-speak ("Barre3 is as much about community as the workout itself. Our goal is for our clients to leave feeling stronger and more empowered"), but very few answers. I asked which teachers would be best for beginners and was told "all of our teachers have their own teaching style," which doesn't help. Melissa did say she would show me the moves to help set me up for success. I also asked why they didn't have any plus-size clothing in their boutique area up front, and was told that they carry only a limited selection in the store but they have a sign stating they'll special-order other sizes. She even sent me a picture of the sign, which cracked me up - I believed her. I mentioned in my email reply that having any item in the store in a plus size would have helped me feel more included, and the answer was, "We are absolutely inclusive." That's....not how that works. I had no idea when I sent my initial message that I was going to end up being unwilling to go back to this studio! I'd expected a conversation to happen and for me to go back to certain teachers that were best for beginners, perhaps armed with modifications. But Melissa was so defensive and so unwelcoming that I don't feel comfortable returning. Luckily, there are many more barre studios in St. Louis.

However, at this St. Louis location, I've been repeatedly told not to wear my shoes to my reformer. Yesterday, I asked a staff member to email me the written policy or rulebook for this location regarding footwear, but I never received it. To be clear, I do not work out in my shoes. I wear grip socks during class. My concern is that if I need to use the restroom in the middle of class, I'm not going to walk through a public restroom in my socks and then get back on the equipment. I also don't think it's reasonable to expect members to walk all the way to the front of the studio just to retrieve their shoes every time they need to use the restroom. I'm a paying member and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask to see the written policy after being repeatedly corrected. If this location has a different footwear policy than my home studio that's completely fine, but it should be communicated clearly and provided when a paying member requests it. As a customer whose membership helps support this business and helps pay the instructors bills, I expect consistency, transparency, and respect. Also, if we're going to focus on safety and studio standards, I'd like to point out that the reformer I used yesterday had a tear that was approximately 1 1/2 inches long in the upholstery. In my opinion, equipment in that condition should be repaired or replaced immediately. It seems inconsistent to be so focused on members walking to their reformers in shoes while damaged equipment remains in use.
