It is refreshing and rare to find a store that truly values its customers. Without a doubt, I highly recommend J.P. My review is based on living in the same area as this storefront and seeing them put out mountains of luggage in garbage bags every couple of months. It's just such a waste. They are very clearly suitcases and travel cases, you can tell from the shape of them and also, I've checked. It's like a heartbreaking future landfill sitting on the curb. It seems like these could so easily be donated to any number of organizations, including some in this very neighbourhood that sell secondhand goods to raise money for young families. Business owner response: "These luggage were damaged by airlines. Unfortunately, these luggage are irreparable and people do not want to bring them back to their homes when they come to visit us. We did everything to make them recycle, but the Eco-Center of Montréal does not want to take them. They told us there are too many components and they can not recycle them. On our side, we are trying to recover the parts that can still be used. Too bad that we are the one who collect 1 star. When the baggage is recoverable, we offer it to Médecins Sans Frontières and several charities. In fact, a commemorative plaque has been erected in the downtown area with our name in mind."

We arrived in Montreal 5 hours before we could check in. The luggage storage location I had looked…read moreup prior was nonexistent, so we were in a real rut trying to find a place to stow our luggage. Luckily, this spot was just a few minutes away from the metro station, making it hassle free. For nearly 5 hours of storage, the cost to leave two bags and umbrellas was around $15. We brought our bags back here on the final day of our trip so that we could walk around before the flight. Great service, will definitely use again.

TL;DR/The Short Version: One of the few department stores…read moreleft in Montreal. I like the pretty displays and the large selection of products. The Long Version: Full Disclosure: my rating is heavily influenced by nostalgia. I love The Bay (called La Baie in the province of Quebec). It's a Canadian department store. To be accurate, it was called The Bay from 1965-2013 (La Baie in Quebec 1972-2013). In 2013 they rebranded to Hudson's Bay/Baie d'Hudson, which I suppose brings it back to the original name of it's first store in 1881 (in Winnipeg, not this one in Montreal) which had the same name as its parent company: The Hudson's Bay Company. However, in my heart it will always be The Bay. When they rebranded, they dropped the stylized B and the yellow script for a more block letter logo in black. The stylized B in yellow script is the logo of The Bay from my childhood, so I'm so happy that this La Baie location in downtown Montreal has retained it. This location has a Coach store inside it and was where I bought my first Coach bag so many moons ago (my first bag that cost more than $30, lol). This location has also been the site of FAO Schwartz pop-up stores, where Canadians can get items from the legendary American toy store. Growing up there were so many department stores, but the likes of Eaton's and Simpsons have long closed. So I'm happy that The Bay is still around. Their regular prices are quite high, but they often have sales where their items are marked down. Those of a certain vintage will remember "The Bay Scratch and Save Days" where they gave out scratch cards (like the scratch lottery cards, lol) and you could get 10%-50% off your purchase. If you are sensitive to scents, you may want to skip their fragrances section on the main floor. Walking through is very much like those typical scenes in movies of department stores where beauty counter workers spray perfume on customers, although they don't spray it directly on you like in the movies, they spray strips of paper and give them customers. But that first floor is olfactory overload! Lol. The flagship Bay store in Toronto is my favourite, but this location in Montreal comes in second :) Review #14 (2025)

La Baie is probably the largest department store in downtown Montreal and at night is nicely lit up. Hudson's Bay (French: La Baie d'Hudson) is a Canadian luxury goods department store chain. It is the flagship brand of the Hudson's Bay Company, the oldest and longest-surviving company in North America as well as one of the oldest continuously operating companies in the World. Founded on 2 May 1670, the Hudson's Bay Company opened its first department store in 1881 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The chain operated under the company name before being rebranded to The Bay in 1965. As of August 2021, Hudson's Bay operates 86 locations in seven Canadian provinces. The full-line department stores focus on high-end fashion apparel, accessories, and home goods; flagship stores carry a bigger range and selection of goods than typical locations. The flagship stores are often multi-story, historic buildings and are located in Canada's largest cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa). So this one in Montreal is multi-story and you can spend hours browsing through all the different departments. Well stocked and well lit, it's a nice place to shop.

This was the second store we went into as we wanted to compare prices and check their inventory. They had a ton of different sized luggage and they were all lined up on order of size and colour. Towards the back of the store I found the right bag in the right size and the right colour. It even expanded a bit, which is what I needed. There were some people being helped at the cash so my friend decided to look for a small bag to carry for small trips, which she found, but in the wrong colour. As soon as Mohamed was finished with his other customers I showed him the bag I wanted & asked if he had one in back, which he did. Then my friend showed him the bag she wanted and asked if he had a specific colour. Voilà! He had it. The man was amazing! We took our purchases to the front where Mohamed rang us up, giving me a bit of a discount, merci. He packed my friend's bag in a nice "Mas Man" bag and he came around to where I was standing and jokingly attempted to put a bag over my suitcase. He did tie up the plastic covering so I could wheel it out of the store. We thanked him profusely and said said goodbye and told him I'd review our experience. I, apparently, am the first reviewer and put this business on the Yelp list. I want him to get more business and succeed!
