Great Jet Skis, But Watch Your Credit Card Statement! The rental experience was actually perfect--the jet skis were fast, comfortable, and 30 minutes was plenty of time. However, I'm rating this 3 stars because of highly questionable deposit practices. They held a $500 incidental deposit for both me and my friend and never refunded it. Luckily, my buddy caught the missing refunds on his statement. While they fixed the issue quickly once confronted, it's alarming that they just kept the money until we said something. $500 would have slipped through the cracks if we hadn't been vigilant. read more

Process was quick and easy. Cost was reasonable. They gave us safety instructions prior to departure. I was riding double with my daughter and we took a spill and fell off the jet ski Into the water. Had a little trouble getting back on and as a novice on a jet ski I had hoped someone would have been watching and had come to assist. No such luck. They were busy talking to each other at the dock. When we pulled up to return the jet ski the young man smelled of heavy marijuana. It was fun but didn't feel like safety was their first concern. read more

Do it. How often do get to ride the waves with a Stunning Sky line as you're back drop? How often are you in Chicago during summer to have the chance to do this? In addition your in North Ave beach. That's basically in the middle of beach coast Chicago - you can chill around here before and after. The vibe here is always LIT especially on weekends. The only reason not to is bad weather or strong winds. Whatever the waves looks like on Shore it's more choppier in the middle. Also despite the size of Lake Michigan there is a high way of sorts that runs through North Ave beach - crossing it depending on sea traffic requires your attention. Otherwise you only live once and time is a precious commodity you can NEVER buy back so if you're reading this review Do IT. A shout out to Olden who took care of us. read more

We had booked an appointment with them over Labor Day and they made us wait an extra hour which ruined our next appointment schedule. Also, they were terribly rude and didn't care to explain details about the sport or the rules. They also made us get off the Skiis in 10 minutes without a warning because apparently we crossed some boundary which he barely even talked about and us being novice learners of Jet Skii were only learning to ride let alone control crossing a tiny border on water. Nice folks but made us come 30 minutes early, then lied to us that they were 30 minutes behind, then made us wait 90 minutes total, including long durations in waist deep water. All for a 30 minute ride. And they interrupted the ride midway saying I was not in their list and pulled me back to shore. Then they found me in the list and sent me back to the lake to finish my ride. Their competence to manage this business is a complete joke. read more

Took the family there and it was a great experience for us all...not to mention a unique bonding opportunity! The staff was very friendly and the rental process is very quick provided you have proper identification and a credit card. You can't beat the thrill of riding a jet ski on beautiful lake Michigan...not to mention the views of the skyline from way out on the lake. The $75 for 1/2 hour seems pricey but is actually a DEAL compared to what we normally spend for the three of us on those tour boats at Navy Pier. AND, you go where you want to go and have loads of fun without someone on a microphone telling you which building John Hancock is. Give them a try....you'll love it !!!!! read more

Woof. The best and the only reason this even kind of gets 1 star is because going on the actual Jet Ski's was a fun time. Everything leading up to this moment was not. There is zero leadership or anyone to take charge when something goes wrong. On our reservation day, the internet had gone out at the hut, there for anyone checking in to a reservation or purchasing was dead in the water. This just had the kids behind the desk, particularly a guy with a mustache, losing it. It became really apparent none of them have had customer service experience before to handle the situation. It became screaming into the walkie talkie chaos. Finally, after 45 minutes of standing at this hut, a girl took my license and credit card to hold along as put our belongings in a cubby behind the desk. Nothing had changed the reservation wasn't processed. She just finally stopped eating a granola bar and worrying about her water bottle. Get out on the pier walk all the way to the end were there flagged station saying "jet ski rental" was where the girl at the hut told us to go. My partner and I along with 2 other couples all heard her tell us to go there. Get there apparently its the "membership only" dock and are told to go to an unmarked spot in the water. Walk over there, get BRAIDED by a sweatshirt wearing man working for the membership half of the business, for asking directions to this unmarked spot. Mind you with 3 other couples now none of us can figure out where they meant for us to go. Finally, have someone wave us down tell us where to wait, that man doing the instructions was the first helpful and pleasant person we had experienced that day. At one point he points out the owner of the company coming in on a jet ski out from a ride with I was assuming his daughter. Really want to understand why the hell, anyone would leave a company full of brand new employees (3 weeks was the longest team member apparently) to go joy ride. Pony up, take care of your company, have an actual business phone number someone answers. It's BS that you have a number and an email that rings to a full mailbox and is never answered and the email bounces. Joy rides over mate. read more

If you're a Chicagoan and are looking to enhance your staycation put Jet Ski Chicago on your to do list! If you're able I would not hesitate to buy the Groupon deal and try to book a month in advance to get the time and day you prefer because Groupon times are limited. Currently, there are two Groupon prices that are offered for a half hour. $55 for Sat-Sun or $45 for Mon-Fri. Normal prices are $85 for a half hour or $150 for an hour and $10 additional for each rider. The Jet Ski kiosk is located on N. Ave. Beach to the right of Castaways (the big ship/bathrooms). Arrive 30min early to sign papers. Once it's your turn to hit the water, grab a life vest and you will be escorted by a guide to the jet ski area. They will go over all the instructions, rules, and boundaries. Yes, there are boundaries. No you can not leave the area and venture out near the playpen, Navy Pier, or the Chicago River. This is for safety purposes. Enjoy the vicinity you have and let it rip! It's a big enough area to have fun zooming around! Instructors were great and helpful! They will hold all of your belongings at the kiosk. Bring a go pro and enjoy the spectacular skyline view! It will leave you in awe! There was a "situation," we had with one of the staff members but the owner was phenomenal and generously compensated us. I highly recommend going on a sunny day because on cold Lake Michigan every drop of sun is needed! We went during low 70 degree weather and I thought I signed up for the Polar Plunge! My feet went numb but then we got used to it and it wasn't so bad after that! Can't wait for our return visit! Too fast! Too furious! read more

We were running late to the appointment and they still let us go out for the full 30 minutes even though we showed up 10 minutes late (we were the last appt of the day so they may not be able to do that for other appt times). 30 minutes felt like a very long time and we all had tons of fun. I have called multiple times at varied times no one answers and the voicemail is full. I have emailed several times and heard nothing back. The experience has been extremely frustrating. The one star is for the friendly teenagers behind the desk that had no idea what was going on. We rented 2 jet skis through Groupon, when we found out that it was going to thunderstorm the planned day of our rental - so several days prior - we emailed and called. Our emails were never returned and the voicemail was full - we we could not leave a message. When we arrived the morning of our planned rental - as we never heard back and decided it must be ok- we were told that it would be closed for the day due to thunderstorms. We asked the sweet teenagers behind the desk, they told us that they were not given a phone or the means to call customers. In fact they didn't know it was closed until they got there - and were unable to contact the manager to get further information. We are angry and disappointed. Jet Ski Chicago is poorly managed. The absolute worst customer service I have ever had to deal with!! For gropon, they tell you you can only book online, then the website tells you you can only book through the phone, but they wont accept your groupon over the phone. And every time you call, nobody answers and the mailbox is full. I purchased a groupon and after 3 attempts at trying to book, I was finally able to book a time for August 14th. Less than an hour before my reservation (while my girlfriend and I were in an uber on our way) they place called us and told us they were closed. It was not raining that day or anything, they just failed to operate and didn't bother to let us know a day in advance or even just a few hours in advance. They said they would refund me but they never did and I am still calling about my refund but they never answer and I can't leave a message. If there are any other jet ski places in Chicago, I would recommend you look into those places before considering these bird brains read more

Noticed this was a unfinished draft on my yelp so this will be a long overdue review. Me and my boyfriend visited back June 5th 2017 . We were excited to visit this place as it would be our first time going jet skiiing. I called ahead of time before coming and asked what the requirements would be along with dress code and pricing.We parked close,paid the meter,and walked about ten minutes across a walkway to Jet Ski Chicago. It was hot that day and my boyfriend was carrying a cooler as we didn't want to leave it in the car to melt and wanted to hit 31st beach directly after jet skiing. We get there and everything is good we both want separate jet skis each for one hour. We get told that they need a card to hold for any damages that may occur to the jet skis. My boyfriend had his credit card on him but I only had my ID on me no credit or debit card just cash. None of that was explained when I called, that they would need a valid card on file to hold in case of damages as we didn't take a look on the website just called in. They held the cooler and gave us a closer parking lot to park at when we come back but Me and my boyfriend had to walk all the way back to the car mind you we had 15 minutes to get to my house to get my debit card and were stuck in rush hour traffic and they were about to close soon. Biggest inconvenience ever. We understand that's policy but due to the circumstances at hand if I was a manager I would of just had one persons credit card on file despite two riders if it was one of my employees who mistakenly didn't mention that policy to first time riders before they made their way to my business as other jet ski places only require one card on file. But they weren't able to get ahold of the manager when we asked. So we rush back go through the whole ordeal with parking again and just decide on riding on one because they wouldn't take my prepaid card.They go over the procedure with a brief 5 minute speech and hold our belongings while showing us the right way to operate the jet skis. Now the actual experience was great for first time riders like myself operating a jet ski can be nerve racking especially when you try to hit high speeds but notice on ever turn the jet gets more wobbly. But overall it was a beautiful day out the experience was stress relieving and pretty cool finally trying it. I would say the price for 30 minutes is reasonable. they actually let me and my friend ride for 45 because of the long process we had to endure by not having two credit cards which made up for all the run around.probably will be back this summer for the hour read more

This made us sit there waiting for two hours when we were originally told 1 hour wait time. This review is late but relevant still. My husband and I paid $100 to ride/rent jet skis in the late summer/early fall of 2014. It was warm when we made the reservation. There was nothing to warn us on the website that they were closed for the season or anything (I see that listed on their site now however)... The day of our reservation came and it was cold outside. I tried to call to cancel but there was no answer. I left multiple voicemails without a return call. I wasn't sure if they would be there at the time of my reservation so we dressed warm and drove to the Navy Pier location.. In the event that they were still doing jet ski tours in the cold we were ready to roll. But when we got there (on time for our reservation), their little hut was unmanned and totally closed. There was no one to ask for a refund... Nothing. I left more voicemails which again went unanswered. I only got my $100 back after making a dispute with my bank for a charge for services that weren't rendered... My bank retrieved the money from their bank after an investigation and it was settled. I never heard from Jet Ski Chicago, even until this day. That's terrible business practice. Just be careful who you do your jet ski business with.... read more

Wanted to give recognition to Daniel which is the guy at the rental booth for answering all my questions & making everything very smoothly. Also Brian for taking pictures of myself & family on the jet skis with his own personal cell phone, since we can't take our phones out when we're on the jet skis. Also wanted to give recognition to the guys that go out in the water on the skis to watch everyone. Thanks for keeping an eye on my son/family. Update: After posting the review below I received an email stating that my refund had been processed. I have adjusted my review to three stars since my only experience was making and cancelling a reservation with them. I made a reservation online for two on a Wednesday for jet skis on Saturday. I had to cancel due to a family emergency, but I cancelled Friday morning, which was well within the 24 hour cancellation policy. I sent an email requesting the cancellation and left a voice message for them asking them to confirm my cancellation. Later that same day I received a call confirming the cancellation, however, it is now over a week later and my refund still has not been processed. I called yesterday to inquire about my refund and the representative I spoke with gave me a phone number for the "owner". I called the number and left a detailed voice message and did not received a response. I will continue to try to contact the company owner and have disputed the charges on my card. "IF" I receive a response and/or a refund I will provide an update on here. Needless to say I will never recommend or do business with this company in the future. read more

I booked thinking I could ride over to the playpen where my friends had a boat parked for the day, which their site specifically mentions "motor over to the playpen for a smoother ride". Called several times days prior to find out information, no response voicemail is full. Finally get a call the day of, and they inform me you can only stay in the specific area. No mention of this on the website or in the terms anywhere. I understand most jet ski rental places have boundaries like this, but their site specifically mentions being able to go there, and the videos on the site show people hoping down the Chicago river which is even further. They of course also refuse to refund my money, I'm certain my credit card issuer will take care of that though. read more

I had a last minute groupon I purchased for $60 to use up for a 30 minute ride but that was long enough; normal price is $90 without a groupon. They are located right on North Ave beach, just south of Castaways boat; I came down without an appointment and they gave me next available slot (no waiting). I suggest doing this first thing in the morning between 10-11am, it was not crowded. 15 mins to sign papers and you must leave ID and credit card on file but will return after you are done, lifejackets included in your rental; they have cubicles available to store your stuff behind their counter. Parking was pricey but super convenient right in front of Castaways for $19 for two hours and I was in and out within 1.5 hours. Weather was perfect and water was just as nice. If you have a waterproof case I suggest taking it with you for some great pictures of the city skyline, which most forget about. BTW Jet ski's had a compartment to hold a few personal belongs as well but those could get wet possibly. Great Experience overall. read more

bought through groupon at a really good price! everything went pretty well and we had a good time, but i wish i had known that the area we could ride in was super limited. they were kind of unclear about the boundaries of the area we could ride in and there are pictures on the website of going down the river, but that would definitely not be possible. we got yelled at for "cutting someone else off" even though we didn't do that - they don't like you riding too close to the other rentals which is kind of annoying because there were 3 jet skis out when we went and the area was small (i think - unless i misunderstood) overall still fun and a great deal at the groupon price! read more

I was called on 8/8/13 informing me that they needed to cancel do to the conditions of Lake Michigan, which I understood. THE PROBLEM IS IT IS NOW JANUARY 16, 2014 AND I AM STILL FIGHTING TO GET MY DEPOSIT BACK!!! I shouldn't say fighting.......I am continuing to reach out with no response from anyone. I bought a half hour jetski rental for my husband's birthday. We have jetskied several times in different locations. Jet Ski Chicago came up short for several reasons: 1. The jetskis were in poor condition. Not only did they have a lot of cosmetic damage, but our jetski had to be restarted a whopping 7 times. After the 3rd time it happened, we flagged down one of the employees who motored over to us on the water, and said, "oh, that's just the low fuel warning mechanism. Just turn the machine off and restart." Ok, well, the problem with that solution is that every few minutes, we had to stop our ride and restart the machine. That really puts a dent in one's fun on the water. 2. We were taken as a group to the machines. There was very little individual attention. 3. Poor customer service. When explaining our experience on the water with the faulty jetski, we were given an apology. When my husband suggested that they make up for the experience by giving us a free half hour, they said they would. I have called them 3 times, and every time, they say they will send us a free half hour through Groupon. We are still waiting for that. It's September. Go somewhere else. There are much better jetski rental companies out there. read more
