Earlier during a quick trip to Chapel Hill, I remembered this shop was in the same mall as Mulberry Silks and we decided to stop in during our next visit. It's kind of across from Mulberry Silks and is near a ladies boutique and the CBD cafe. The shop offers jewelry making tools, beads, closures, and some pre-made items as well. There is a small workspace where you can make jewelry there and I suspect that they may hold workshops or classes from time to time. (There are signs saying that the staff could also try to design/help create custom jewelry pieces for customers if they are interested.) I believe we've run into the owner both times I've gone in and she's usually working on something but will look up and greet customers. If they have questions, she is happy to help. I like that there are closures and jewelry parts available that are 18 KT plated gold, and in addition, there are some gold filled ones as well. We did ask the owner to take a look at our chain to see what size of the 18 KT plated closures would fit or suit the chain we brought best. She pointed out two sizes and felt we could go either way. We didn't have the proper tools at home to install the hardware onto the chain, so the owner was gracious to let us use the workspace and tools to attach the hardware to the chain. Prices for the hardware were reasonable. Also I appreciated that she had the workspace available for us to utilize when we needed the correct tools to add them to the chain. With regard to parking, it can be a toss up. There are a few surface lots you can park in, but one of them is shared with Harris Teeter and can get full.

As a jeweler, they should know scratch tests are not meant for higher carat gold but a xrf or pmi gun. Took it to a pawn shop for testing and even the jewel recycle and they both confirmed it was 24k. Them being jewelers, they should know this and not try to scam customers. Their work is amazing from what I have seen but I can not trust them. Beware.

I've had this business create a ring for me and repair a ring for me. I described what I wanted and…read moreasked for an estimate and a drawing before the work was done. The jeweler did the work without giving me either. I didn't like that he took it upon himself to decide what I'd like without talking with me as agreed. I did like this ring. The repaired ring is another story. I asked that the prongs be tipped because the stone was loose. The repair took weeks longer than promised. When I got the ring back, I saw that the jeweler had again made a decision without consulting me first. Instead of tipping the prongs as agreed, he created a new setting and a new leaf probably because the ring was damaged during the repair. The new leaf did not match the original, and the jeweler insisted it was the original, all while the original leaf and leftover gold from the repair sat in a bag on the counter between us. Worse, the setting was crooked. The jeweler insisted it had always been like that. I told him I'd worn the ring for 40 years and it was never like that. I spent six months trying to find someone to repair the damage, but no one would touch it. Finally, a friend of the jeweler's convinced me to take it back to him, and he agreed to repair it free of charge. The setting was straightened somewhat, but it has since crumbled, and the ring is no longer wearable.
