As a woman, I never really divulged myself with what goes on in a men's barber shop. My husband recently found Ruben through Yelp and wanted to give his shop a try since his other shop was almost always booked and because he could never get the barber that he wanted. For his first appointment with Ruben, my husband came home super happy with his new due (I'm not gonna lie, I was too) and he couldn't stop talking about how awesome Ruben was. He continued on with telling me that Ruben also cuts at the barber shop on Texas Street (in Fairfield) and at this location in Green Valley. JG Barber Spa is actually located inside of Rosina's European Skin Care Clinic, on the third floor of a professional building, next to The Green Valley Library (Note to all 'cause it's easy to to get lost for first timers). Ruben's station is the first chair of the Skin Care Clinic and has a wonderful view. The whole style of his station is American Traditional with the old school barber's chair, boxing and military paraphernalia, and (of course) the classic barber's pole. He'll even turn on some music from the 40's which fully changes the whole atmosphere all together (you'll forget you're in a skin care clinic). Ruben was awesome. He had a (small) selection of bottled brews and water for his clients and it was easy to have a conversation with him. He was totally inviting while I was waiting in a extra barber chair and all I can say is the man is extremely positive. It's rare to met someone as chill as he is. We talked about multiple topics from movies, to football, and traveling. With all respect, he definitely fits in with the classic gentlemen genre with regards to how he presents himself and communicates. However, we did hit a snag. While cleaning up the back of my husband's neck he did nick my husband's (thin) chain link necklace which caused it to break. Ruben told us that we could take it to another clients shop to get it fixed and to let his friend know that Ruben sent us and to put it on his tab. It seemed like he was sincerely apologetic and followed up with my husband by letting him know that he got a hold of his friend at the shop. At the end of it all, we did go to the shop and his friend did follow through with Ruban's word. My husband's hair cut came out great. He also got his beard trimmed and he damned near has this Peaky Blinder's look going on (I definitely dig). If you have the chance to, my husband and I recommend Ruben. Came to this barbershop to get a haircut. The main guy who runs the shop said he didnt have time to fit me in but recommended one of his barbers next to him was available. Since he spoke highly of him, I thought why not... The guy he recommended me to (Jesus?) must be new because I got one of the worst cuts of my life. Just finished with my experience at JG Barbers... If your a guy (49% of us are) you NEED to go here... This is an experience not to be missed, you get the vibe of an old school barber shop, Frank playing in the background, and the upscale of a full service salon. The owner, Ruben, is such an amazing barber, I want to call him an artist with the job he does. You get an amazing haircut, a shampoo, razor on the neck and ears, and styled how you like it. My next time in I'm going for the shave and haircut package, I've never done a shave at a barbershop, but damn... I'm looking forward to it. Decent hair cut. You have the option to sign up for a haircut and a beard trim on his website. I signed up for both and wasn't offered a beard trim. Felt weird when I walked in because the owner didn't acknowledge me or even look at me lol. read more

Getting a much needed haircut and beard trim was such an awesome experience here. He knows how to get you relaxed and ready to enjoy your barbershop experience with casual conversation (or not, if that's your thing). He makes sure he gives you exactly what you asked for and does a damn good job at making that happen. I will never go to another box style haircut place again where they rush, mess things up, and have no style input on your cut. I gave him a general idea of what I wanted without knowing what lengths would look good for my head/hair type; and he delivered an excelent result. Now this place is truly a gentleman's barbershop. I heard good things from my coworkers, since we work in the same building, but man it was cool. I just got a haircut for $30 but it was well worth it. They took time to ask me question no other barber has asked me. Then they offered me a shampooing or a hot towel. I took the towel and he wrapped it around my face and put on this crazy old school looking massage glove and gave my head and shoulders a massage. Overall I will go back. I've been going to local (Vacaville) barbers for a few years now. The two shops I went to are very good.
