When the work was finally completed, we were left with no grass, no flowers and no plants - pretty much a barren wasteland that looked horrible. As we put the word out to landscape designers, we started to get contacted by several companies wanting to quote the work. Steve from S & L was the first to respond. He was punctual and professional at the estimate appointment, COMPLETELY understood the assignment as we described what we wanted and provided a very reasonable quote for the work we requested (he even provided us with a thorough sketch of our vision the very next day!) This was a marked difference from the other companies - some wanted to charge us just for their plan (!), some had to be chased down for a follow up, some missed their scheduled appointments and others were ridiculously high with their estimates. Throughout the planting/installation process, Steve and his team were in constant communication with us, asking us to check their progress as we moved forward so that we were all on the same page (even offering GREAT suggestions). My wife and I could not be happier with the results. We have a beautiful lawn of new sod, several beds of native Florida plants and trees and dramatic uplighting that makes our home look like it was photographed by House and Garden. He did a good job the very first time he came out, which is why we reached back out and wanted to establish ongoing service. Unfortunately, after that, the communication became extremely poor. He was consistently bad at communicating messages went unanswered, plans weren't confirmed, and we never knew when or if he was actually coming. Then things escalated when he showed up unannounced one day and cut our grass without any communication at all. We had no idea he was coming, and it wasn't something we requested for that day. After doing the work unexpectedly, he then tried to charge us out of the blue as if this had been scheduled, even though he never told us he was coming. When we asked why there was no communication and why he was billing us for a service we didn't know was happening, he tried to blame us, saying we misunderstood or didn't follow up when in reality, he never sent a single message confirming anything. This was especially frustrating because the lack of communication was entirely on his end. On top of that, he canceled an appointment and later tried to up-charge us from the original quote, even though nothing about the job had changed. It felt unprofessional and unreliable, especially for someone we were trying to trust with ongoing work. Overall, if you want clear communication and reliability, I would look elsewhere

The quality of work has not met expectations. The groundcover in front of the house completely died, and weeds have taken over both the grass and the landscape beds. The front of our neighborhood looks neglected, which is frustrating after being promised professional care. Communication and follow-through have been lacking, and it often feels like only the bare minimum gets done. Our community tried to end the relationship after the first year, but the company has insisted on enforcing the contract instead of working toward an amicable resolution.
