Some other lawyers I called made brief mention of how tricky my case would be, but then repeatedly emphasized their high overall success rate in traffic court instead of discussing my specific case, and I got the feeling I was speaking to a salesperson rather than someone who would have my best interests in mind. Instead, on our initial phone call, Mr. King listened carefully to the details of the case. I knew I could trust him when, instead of trying to push me into paying for his services, he candidly discussed how he would be able to help and the different reasons why the case would be quite difficult to win, with or without his help. Mr. King had me meet with him in person so we could discuss in greater detail my side of the story and what he would be able to do to help. He was as honest as possible in helping me understand what the cost of his services were, and what the benefits of his representation would be, so that I could then decide if it would be worth it. He was clear that I didn't have much of a legal argument at my disposal, and the best I could hope for was the clerk's sympathy and leniency given my otherwise clean driving record. Given that he teaches several courses at UMass Lowell Law School and that Lowell is his home court, Mr. King was also able to explain in detail the inner workings of the Lowell district traffic court and his track record with similar cases. All this information and advice was shared before the signing of any contracts or checks, which further convinced me that Mr. King truly had my best interests in mind and was not just trying to sell his services no matter what. I was deeply impressed by Mr. King's honesty, professionalism, expertise, and clear communication, so I decided to go ahead and enlist his help. I hired him after firing another attorney, hoping he would handle my case properly. Unfortunately, he did absolutely nothing. I provided clear responses to all interrogatories, but when I received the draft, many of the responses were incorrect. I had to call multiple times just to get them corrected. Before each trial, I shared several key points explaining where my ex was wrong, but he never raised them in court and instead repeated the same arguments every time. My ex-wife's attorney dismantled his arguments in court. Realizing that I was unlikely to win at trial, I wanted to pursue a settlement outside of court, but he was uncooperative. I ultimately had to rely on friends and family to help negotiate with my ex. The separation agreement drafted by my ex-wife's attorney required me to bear more costs for an anticipated child expense, which he failed to identify or address. He also represented me in a restraining order hearing. Before the hearing, I sent him several pages documenting how my ex had lied in previous proceedings, and I clearly stated that I wanted to testify. I even shared a draft of what I planned to say in court. However, on the day of the hearing, when I stood up to testify, he told the judge that I would not be testifying. I was shocked. He had never discussed this with me beforehand. I felt completely betrayed.

Do not fall for his high pressure tactics, and do not let him verbally run all over you. Make him return your calls as he carefully screens his voicemails and will tend not to return calls (contact the Mass Bar Association and report him if needed be), go to court and fight for what is right and for what you want, that is the job of a lawyer. Communication was reactive rather than proactive, and much of the time we had to chase updates or check the probate court docket ourselves. As first-time buyers, we needed more guidance and reassurance than we received. We also had issues with her paralegal, Stacey, who sent us an extremely rude and dismissive email that turned out to be wrong. This contributed to more preventable delays and costs, and Keira never addressed it with us. Keira's tone was often blunt, dismissive, and at times rude. For example, when my husband (who is an attorney but not a real estate attorney) asked her for her professional estimate based on her experience, she responded: "You're an attorney, you know that the court is unpredictable." That kind of remark was passive-aggressive and unhelpful, and it set the tone for much of our relationship with her. We also repeatedly asked her to communicate with us more proactively, but nothing ever changed. At closing, she asked us to sign two optional items we had opted out of earlier in the process. She said she needed to "check" to make sure we weren't being charged for them in the closing costs. I had already confirmed we weren't, and this is something her office should have caught when reviewing the final numbers. Instead, it created more unnecessary confusion at the table. Keira's style of communication made an already stressful process much harder than it needed to be. Edit: I have gone back and updated my review.
