Jim Spachman is NOT, "your" State Farm Agent. He is an agent for State Farm. My insurance rates have increased because, he failed to represent me on a claim. The other driver was also represented via State Farm. I was clipped by another driver as I started to "veer" over (not crossing the marked lines). It was a construction zone and the other driver had switched over to the turn lane and sped up to pass illegally. He was trying to leapfrog back into my lane. The other driver then tried to leave the scene. I had to pursuit him to get him to pull over. Because I said the word "veer", I was found to be at fault. I called "my agent" (Jim Spachman) to describe what had happened. He told me that there is/was nothing he could do to help. Like a good neighbor? More like the sleazy local bill collector! While someone like myself, that struggles with monthly finances (because of things like insurance rate increases), Jim is off on another fun and sunny vacation. Thanks Jim! Hope you choke! read more

I worked with Samantha a few weeks ago to inquire about quotes for home and auto. She was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. She responded quickly to my MANY questions. She found us a few ways to cut some items that weren't necessary for our current needs and in addition to State Farm's rates, we are now paying much less than with my previous insurance company. It has taken me a few weeks to write this review because I cannot even find words to explain how helpful Jamie was. She is extremely affable & talked me through all of my options. I always dread talking on the phone, but she made this entire process so easy & stress-free. Not only that, but she made me feel comfortable talking about my personal struggles. By the end of our conversation, I felt like I had just finished a therapy session & I made a new friend. On top of all this, my insurance rate has never been lower. Jim has been my agent for several years now. He's got my car and my house, and I've never had bad service from him or any of his other agents. Today, I found out that the Low Gas light on my car is apparently broken. I found this out, sadly, by running out of gas on my way to the gas station. Fortunately, I broke down in the street right in front of Jim's office. Crazy, but true. A very nice police officer showed up shortly thereafter. I mentioned that office, right over there, is my agent's - and I was just going to call for road service. Turns out Jim was the officer's agent, too, so we both headed over instead. I let the receptionist - who I found out later was Jim's daughter - know what was up, and rather than call for a tow, she offered to drive me the short jog over to Meijer, where I grabbed a gas can ($9? Seriously?!) and some fuel. Anyway, it was pretty much above and beyond what I expected. I hoped they'd just call for a tow, but all things considered, this was 100% better. Jim had been my agent for a few years. But then, after a few other accidents, my adult daughter totaled her car (that was in our name). Our rates went through the roof (more than tripled)! We repeatedly asked him to remove her from our insurance, as she was no longer allowed to drive our vehicles, to no avail, even after she moved out of our house and out of the state of Illinois! (We started asking in MARCH and it is now SEPTEMBER!... In the interest of fairness, one of the times may have been our failure to file the paperwork they requested, but even after we did, they said that removing her was against their policies...) We spoke with his employees a few times, then we spoke with him personally at least three times about the issue and each time, he assured us that he would take care of it, but never did. We finally had to switch insurance companies and now pay less than we ever payed State Farm through his office (less than $150 per month). When we cancelled our plan, they took nearly the whole $600 monthly car insurance payment (that was supposed to have dropped to under $300 for several months prior) and refunded us less than $100, even though it was only halfway through the month. I've done business with State Farm in Utah, California, and Michigan. Jim Spachman is by far the WORST State Farm agent I've ever dealt with. If you have money to burn, go ahead and talk with him. But if not, I'd avoid his office like the plague. P.S. Spachman's office contacted me telling me how hurt they were by my review... A bit of a self-righteous attitude, given the situation. They offered me a written explanation of the charges, as they have before, but so far, I've received nothing. I then emailed them back and told them, even if they finally do send an itemized bill explaining the charges, it's a case of too little, too late. They can live with this review, just like I had to live with their inaction, charges to my bank account, and lack of communication for over six months... read more

We have Jim as our agent for 30 years or so and ALWAYS have excellent service. His office has most of our insurance and the whole staff is friendly and wanting to help anyway they can. Recently my wife and I went in reluctantly to talk to Jim's financial planner, Rod Miller, and we were not looking forward to it as we both dislike sitting and listening to financial planners seemingly trying to upsell us on their products. Rod reviewed our gaps, asked what our priorities were and got US to see where we were lacking in coverages. He never pressured us and let us know anything we did was our responsibility and decision. So we made some updates to our policies and got out there without losing an arm or a leg. Seriously, Rod was so good we now think of him as our friend. Finally, they have the best dish of chocolates around, always offer us a drink, and other promotional items for our benefit. read more
