It is also just north of Blind Creek Beach which has a nude beach. I got a chuckle from the sign at Little Mud Creek reminding folks that they need to keep their clothes on. I guess they may have had a problem in the past. If you paddle south towards the power plant, you can cut through a mangrove path to the beach area, but to reiterate it is a nude beach. Little Mud Creek is also a great place to bird watch. Species of birds that have been spotted here include the common ground dove, mourning dove, anhinga, brown pelican, and yellow crowned night heron. I think a saw a killdeer or possibly it was a semipalmated plover in a puddle. Both are small brown shorebirds.

Located on Hutchinson Island and three beaches north of popular Stuart Beach, Bryn Mawr is a great option for those looking for a remote and low key experience. There's usually parking available, while only being a stones throw away from walking up the beach. Obviously, it's cooler this time of year. Well for Florida, right? So I didn't spend the whole day laying on the beach like I normally would due to the cool breeze in the air. However, I walked the whole beach and it was just perfect. With winter in Colorado in full swing, this was the break I didn't know I needed until I set my toes in the sand. If you're looking to do more people watching, go to Stuart Beach just a mile away. Today the Bryn Mawr beach is one of the many lovely beaches on Hutchinson Island. It is located one mile south of Jensen Beach on A1A. It is known for good fishing and as a popular place to see wildlife. The Beach is pet friendly and parking is free. From the parking it is a short walk up a hill to a boardwalk carries you over the dunes to one of the top 10 beaches in the country as reported by Travel magazine. Whether you want to fish, surf, fly a kite or just sit in a beach chair this is a beautiful beach to relax and recharge.

We saw 9 alligators, 26 birds, 7? turtles, and even an iguana on our river adventure. I highly recommend taking some time out of your day to go on this cruise. Florida locals and tourists will both enjoy this opportunity, and have a chance to learn about the history of the area and the local ecological life. Call ahead to secure your seat. The boat owners, Steph & Eddie, are fabulous tour guides and really take the time to ensure all passengers have an opportunity to see all the creatures on the tour. Gazebo Park is a small park in downtown Stuart. At the center of the park is a beautiful large…read moregazebo. When I visited it was displaying a Christmas tree. The park was also displaying a cheerful snowman made out of tires. I guess that is what Florida snowmen are made of. Other park amenities include benches, a paved walkway, and a water fountain to drink from. During the year the park hosts concerts and events. While not large the park adds to the quaint hometown feel of Stuart.

Timers Power Park is a spacious 37 acre park located in Indiantown. Historically the Jupiter…read moreIndiantown Road which existed from the 1900's until the late 1950's ran through the park. The 16 mile Jupiter Indiantown Road connected the communities of Jupiter and Indiantown, giving residents access to resources. The road took two days to travel by oxcart. During that time brothers Joe and Dessie Bowers developed citrus groves and ran a trading post exchanging goods for hides with the Seminoles. Later the road was known as the Jupiter Grade Road, the Jupiter Okeechobee Road and the Central Dixie Highway. In 1936 it became State Road 29. By the late 1950's nearby paved highways replaced the historic dirt road. In 1993 the road was declared a Scenic By-Way by Martin and Palm Beach Counties. Later this park was named in honor of Eugene "Timer" Powers (1937-1992). Mr. Powers was a significant figure in Indiantown known for his roles in establishing the Indiantown Gas Company in 1960, serving on the board of the South Florida Water Management District, and acting as a Martin County commissioner for twelve years, where he also helped shape water and Everglades policies. He was only 55 when he passed away from cancer. Upon his passing he was eulogized by then Governor Lawton Chiles who said "I recall a Bible verse that tells us, 'Blessed are the peacemakers.' We will miss Timer as a person and as a peacemaker. He was one of the finest people you could know, and his belief that people can work together to solve problems will be sorely missed. The Florida Everglades, too, has lost a friend." What makes this park really unique is that it has a state-of-the-art, covered equestrian arena that is the only public equestrian arena in Martin County. It is available to the public for general usage and for organized horse shows. Timer Powers Park is the location of the annual Indiantown Rodeo which is one of the nation's most prominent rodeos dating back to 1947. The park also has many other amenities like a public boat ramp and fishing pier on the St. Lucie Canal. There is an amphitheater, numerous pavilions with tables and grills, and a playground. Large oak trees provide shade throughout the park. Timers Power Park is part of the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail. This park is ideal for a family celebration, play, fishing, or just a peaceful stroll like the one I enjoyed.

The park is supplied with city water and restroom facilities. The fireworks display was truly an awesome experience last night and the Village did a spectacular job!

I was exploring some of…read morethe nature preserves in the area for hiking when I discovered this well appointed park located in the Rosser area of Port St. Lucie. Woodland Trails Park opened in 2017 and received its name from neighborhood residents. Highlights of this park include a dog park, shade covered nature themed playground, and picnic area with restrooms. There is also open space for play with a soccer goal, shade covered outdoor fitness equipment, and the Born Learning Trail where children can play as they learn. The Born Learning Trail takes you to my favorite part of the park, the natural area. Tall trees provide shade as you stroll through a pine flatwood habitat. These habitats are crucial for local wildlife and they offer native plants a place to thrive. Abundant pinecones can be found all over the ground. The paved pathway is ideal for bikers and walkers. While not overly long it is the perfect space to make you feel removed from suburbia for at least a few minutes. Come for a picnic, play, or exercise. There is so much to enjoy at Woodland Trails Park.

Hosford Park is the start of a canoe/kayak trail that is 7 miles up and back. The boat ramp is surrounded by thick vegetation that includes slash pines, cabbage palms, and live oak trees. I had fun watching a raccoon emerge from the woods and get his take out dinner from the trash can. Unless you have a boat you can skip this park. If you don't own your own and want to rent a boat or kayak, South River Outfitters is located nearby.
