This is the first review I've ever written and I'm not doing it because I owe Joe a favor. I'm not…read moredoing it because we're family. In fact, I have only lived in the Portland area for a couple years now, so I have no history with this area at all. I'm writing this review because if you're like me, then you don't know the first thing about mechanics, but you still don't want to get ripped off. This is where Joe comes in. The transmission on my car was acting funny (slipping gears) and then finally one day while I was driving home, the car downshifted and got stuck in 3rd gear. I was convinced I was going to have to buy a new transmission, so I began calling around for quotes. I didn't know about Joe's Auto Service until the guy at the local auto parts store recommended him as a good "transmission guy". I took my car to Joe, told him it needed a new transmission (costing around $3,000-$5,000). He hooked up a diagnostic tool to the car, took a reading, drove the car around the block, took me into his shop, ran some numbers and came back with an estimate of roughly $450. He told me it was a sensor that went bad that was causing all the trouble and it didn't need a new transmission. Starting to see why I gave him 5 stars? He fixed the sensor and the transmission has worked perfectly ever since (about a year). Whenever you find a mechanic that tells you your car doesn't need the more expensive fix, it needs the cheaper one, you've found yourself a mechanic worth hanging on to. Joe has worked on my car since that time (fixed a bad seal) and he will continue to be the one I go to whenever my car needs to be worked on. If you're on the fence about whether or not he's your guy, go in and talk to him face to face. If he seems untrustworthy or incapable of fixing your vehicle, go somewhere else. Trust me, you won't be going anywhere else.

If I could give negative stars I would!!! don't even know where to begin!!! Took my car here back…read morein November with absolutely NO STARTING issues, they determined I had bad time and quoted the warranty place for a new timing chain... warranty place told them to order and change the engine. I finally got my car back January 12th, drove it a few times that day and then parked it for the night. Drove up to the gas station in the morning, came out and it wouldn't start!!!! Finally got it to start after 5 minutes, drove it home and once again it would not start. Wouldn't start at all weekend so I had it towed back to muffler man where they basically told me they don't deal with "key fob" issues. After they got it running again. Went to get it and within 24 hours it wouldn't start again. Got it to Sundance where they changed a body control module, drove it for less than a day before the same problem happened, took it Shaheen, they changed ECM and I picked it up this morning. Drove it somewhere to get a tire looked at and it wouldn't start to pull into tire bay, they hooked a booster up and it started after 15 minutes.... They said I needed a new battery so bought one, got home and car once again will not start!!!! If you value actually being able to drive your car instead of it being in the shop DO NOT allow this place to do anything major to your vehicle!!!!! I got a new engine and have since paid almost $2000 for a car that still won't start eventhough it started every single time before this place touched it!!!! I will be contacting an attorney

I always start here for my vehicle needs. I really wish I wasn't a regular customer but if I'm…read moregoing to have car trouble I'm glad to have these guys nearby!

No screws were replaced when he was funished including the one that holds my HOOD ip safely. Vacuum hoses were left unhooked and my car has an engine knock. He refused to give me an actual mileage on said used engine. This was my maiden voyage into car repairs on my own and my car is nearly undriveable. Im sick. I called his financing company to investigate fraud, which is my only recourse besides court. Which i absolutely have to do to bw able to get to work. This dude didn't juat rip me off, he ruined my faith in mechanics. Nightmare. They had my car back to me within a day, and fixed things that had been bugging me for a long time. I now feel confident driving my car, no lights lit on the dashboard! I feel very confident that all of my car's problems were noticed and addressed! I have read the negative reviews (before I took my car in), and I have to say, something about those reviews didn't ring true. My experience was certainly not what they described!
