Definitely the best Chinese resto in town! They have very authentic Chinese food that is comparable to Toronto and Vancouver. They serve dim sum on the weekends which is always fresh and delish. They have a separate English and Chinese menu. I have only ordered off the Chinese menu as the English menu is pretty similar to other places such as chicken balls and fried rice. If you do want to try the Chinese menu, the pictures of the dishes are all on their wall. read more

Okay - i am having a really tough time posting a review for this restaurant. On the one hand, Jin Dragon deserves one of the best food reviews I can give a place in St John's. On the other, I am feeling very protective of this little gem I've just discovered! The Hong Kong dim sum is exactly what it is supposed to be - flavourful dumplings, steamed buns, red bean paste, custards, bbq pork. Steamed, fried, noddle dish with beef. Ample vinegar and soy sauce, with red chili paste on the side and refilled green tea pots. Not a single thing can I find to say that is negative... with the exception that the place is just not big enough - this is in part the fault of the pandemic (reduction in tables), but also because it is a small restaurant space. If you are looking for authentic dim sum, Jin Dragon is it! They don't take reservations, so first come, first serve! read more

Amazing food off the authentic Chinese menu. I can't speak for the Canadian Cantonese food but why even go there when you have such a vast selection on the authentic menu. Had steamed pork buns, sweet and sour potato, kernel corn with pine nuts, and a couple of meat dishes. Large photos on the wall show some of the items on the authentic menu. Otherwise you have to ask since authentic menu written in Chinese. Also, Dim Sum is served up every Saturday and Sunday, 11:00-3:00. Only Dim Sum in St. John's at the moment, I believe. Me and the family ordered from the place a few times and I thought it was decent, however I ordered one Sunday evening, my birthday even, and the order was the most disgusting pile of crap I have ever gotten in my life. I called them up and thought there must have been a mistake as I enjoyed it every time before, but they swore at me and told me where to go. 10/30/2018 - MenuPix User I am on the Internet and reading about this restaurant because I wanted to know why it had closed awhile back for some 6 weeks. Was it a health violation? I don't know but 2 weeks ago or more I did place an order for my parents and myself. We had received their menu in the mail and figured we would give them a try. They have these Special A or B and I ordered B. In it has the Soo Guy which I asked could I substitute the shrimp balls. There was no problem the first time and I picked up the order and paid over $40 for our meals. Tonight I am - as I stated - on here reading the reviews and how the staff will argue with customers and do not have good customer service. That never happened to me first time so I figure I will place that same order again. As soon as I ask for the substitution again the man on the phone starts to tell me it will be $3 more to do this. I tell him that I placed this same order a few weeks ago and was not charged any extra fee. He then proceeds to argue with me...that he remembered my order (Really from a few weeks ago you can do that given the people who call you to order meals???). I then tell him about the reviews I have read and how they argue with customers and tell him to forget me ordering anything from them and hung up. So it is true. They will argue with you and be confrontational. I would not mind if the food was fantastic but it wasn't. It just fills the hole and is not the same Chinese place you order from all the time. My favourite place for Chinese. No MSG spice used so everything has its own flavour. Best deal for your money with 5 chicken balls instead of 3 like most places. I love this place. I'm sure you can find fault if you look for it but you can do that anywhere you go. read more
