By'es got some good food. Dies for the chicken balls and rice or the special. You can't compare an NL Chinese restaurant to one in say Toronto. NL's population isn't incredibly diverse so NL Chinese restaurants need to cater to the demands of their customers which limits the restaurant in a sense but it's not their fault. As far as Chinese Take-outs go, this is one of the best! There is always service with a smile and the food is good too. Always hot and usually pretty fast. The one small pain is they don't have a debit machine so it's cash only, but if you're look for some good, fast and relatively cheap Chinese Take-out then this is the spot! read more

Ordered delivery. It was quick which was awesome but the quality of food wasn't that great. I remembered ordering from here regularly when I lived here 5 years ago and really enjoyed it. Maybe I built it up in my head. I ordered sweet n sour chicken balls. Fried rice and an egg roll. Rice was soggy, not enough sauce on the chicken balls and the egg roll was bland. Meh. read more

I have ordered from Song Hee many times. When I used to live a few blocks away I would occasionally get delivery. The food was always good. I usually order the Cantonese Chow Mein, and my wife usually gets a dinner with chicken balls, beef & broccoli, deep fried wontons, and an egg roll. We also get wonton soup almost every time. The food is good quality. The chicken balls are a lot more chicken (white meat) than dough. The egg rolls are not #1 in St. John's, but still quite good. The only thing I don't like is that they use canned mushrooms in the Cantonese Chow Mein. This is a problem in many Newfoundland restaurants, and it seems acceptable (or tolerable?) by many restaurant goers, but I find canned mushrooms rather unappetising. The wonton soup is very good, definitely top 3 in the city. Even though I live in the west end now, I still pick up occasionally from Song Hee, and I will be doing so for a long time. read more

I don't go here for authentic Chinese food, but, if you want classic Canadian style Chinese food it's hard to beat this place. Mongolian chicken/beef is particularly tasty. It's not healthy or light, but boy is it tasty. read more

This is not much better than you can do at home with a deep fat frier. Actually ,you may be able to do better because you may be able to get rid of some of the grease it comes swimming in. Truly terrible. The food took over an hour to arrive, and only after I called back and reminded them to send it. By the time it arrived it was half-cold, even though I asked the driver and he told me it had taken them a long time because they had made it fresh. They got our order wrong and charged us for twice the food we ordered. The portion sizes were huge but the food was just terrible. I ordered the sweet and spicy tofu and it was inedibly spicy and otherwise completely tasteless. Not only that, but the tofu was just huge, hot, squares. There was no sign of it having been prepared in any way other than heating. They could have made it in the microwave for all I know. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp and vegetables with cashews and that was awful as well, served in a luke-warm, MSG-laden, tasteless slime with a vague fishy odour with a few tiny shrimp tossed in seemingly for show. The chicken balls were massive balls of deep-fried dough with a little piece of chewy, dark chicken in the centre. It wouldn't have been such a disappointment if the food wasn't so expensive. They charged us $56.00 for two people. read more
