Cat server robots

Great food, amazing service, and an awesome experience. You order you food on a tablet on the table, and then a robot with a cat face comes and delivers it straight to you, I had my meal within about five minutes. 11/10 would recommend

Good sized rolls. Fast service. Your food is delivered on little server robots. It was a good lunch.

I go here a lot for their buffet. I find their lunch buffet is more worth your time for the fact it still comes with dessert and everything I would get anyway comes on that menu. From what I'm aware even sashimi is on that menu. I got the yam tempura roll and mango roll when I'm having the buffet and the volcano roll is absolutely delicious if you are just ordering from the menu. The dinner buffet in my opinion isn't worth your money compared to the value you get from going with the lunch time buffet. $20-$22 for lunch and roughly $30 for dinner buffet. That's without tax in tip. Usually I end up paying $30 for lunch and $40 for supper with everything included. Weekends are more expensive, a dollar or two added on to the buffet. If you want to try anything out non buffet, try ordering on skip the dishes for pickup and then use it with a coupon for some money off.

Sushi Island NL! My go to NL all you can eat sushi bar! Definitely try the Sapporo! There are many options here, so try them all! Portion sizes are quite big so order what you can eat or you'll have to pay for the leftovers. That's the only buffet rule. I'm having chicken fried rice, teriyaki chicken, salmon, beef, beef ribs, red dragon roll, spicy salmon-tuna roll, crab, mackerel, red snapper, salmon, and white tuna sashimi! Topped off with a Sapporo beer and your golden! I love this place! Make sure to stop by.

AYCE menu

New AYCE sushi place on Water street. It's good to see more sushi options in St John's. Pricing is decent at $16.99 for lunch and $26.99 for dinner. However.....they claim for uneaten pieces they will charge you $1.50 per piece. I often get a small laugh at the penalty fee. It's a good way of scaring those who go cuckoo bananas ordering and then wasting so much food. Wasting food is for losers. There are many hungry people in the world who cannot enjoy food such as AYCE sushi. Don't be a waster! Starting out I ordered a variety of sashimi which the server mentioned "did you know this is raw"? My reply was "yes, thank you, but of course"! Sashimi is cut very thin as expected. Freshness and taste was clean and texture was as expected. What you want from good sashimi. Then as moved to order some tempura vegetables and tempura shrimp. The tempura was good. Not too salty and crispy and light. The shrimp was extremely battered. Like 2X-3X the normal batter. I'm thinking this is a clever fill you up technique. What was disappointing was the tempura dipping sauce. Very little to no flavour. The I ordered some rolls: deep fried California, Dynamite and spicy tuna. The spicy tuna didn't look like tuna? Overall the rolls were above average but not amazing. Definitely better than many All you can eat places. Freshness was adequate and good. Overall a strong 3.75/4 people serving were friendly so I'll bump it to a 4. My hope is is place does well and doesn't raise their prices. This can be long term suicide for a restaurant. I'll look forward to returning.

Good value for the price. Service is hit and miss but I presume this is due to the restaurant just opening. Also at times there are certain menu items not available so may be worth asking what fish types are available that day before sitting down. Good to see all you can eat sushi in St. John's. Been a long time coming. They also don't take credit card for some reason so that's a slight annoyance.

Decent sushi, and friendly service. I would dine here again. Kids would get great entertainment out of the robotic server.

I've only had delivery from here but it's been delicious every time. Their California rolls are easily the best in town.

Favourite sushi in town. High calibre for an all-you-can-eat menu. Sashimi cuts and rolls are well sized. Never disappointed.

There was a big menu, and they offered a large variety of dishes (Currys, ramen, tempura, sushi, etc). I ordered the Assorted Sushi Dinner ($18) which came with 6 Maki rolls, 6 Nigiri rolls, a small Miso soup, and supposedly a salad. I didn't get a salad, and at the time I forgot about it, but looking back on it now, I'm quite disappointed that I was never given one. I realized after price matching with the other sushi places downtown, that my meal was quite expensive, and it was due to the missing salad :( some of the maki rolls had a nice crunch to them (I'm guessing pine nuts) but other than that, it was a pretty standard mix of rolls. I think the mix of slow serving time, pretty mediocre rolls (from what I ordered) and the missing salad spoiled my experience of the place. I'd recommend having more reasonably priced dinner assortments of sushi. Also, I often see sushi at other places presented on a nice plate to make a good first impression, and the plates were pretty bland. I'd probably give a higher rating if I went again at a less busy time, but I'll stand with what I gave.

One server / bus person / cashier / bartender / cleaner and she was kind, sweet and a star. There are two guys in the kitchen on food and dishes. All in all we waited to get in but the wait for food was not too bad. We had fried chicken curry, pork, and tantanmen noodles. As well as the chicken gyoza, and shrimp tempura. First the sides. The tempura was acceptable. Pretty good. Not crispy though. But good flavor, your oil needs to be a bit hotter and try adding a little oil to the batter. The gyoza was good. Could have a little more green onion in the inside, but you cook them properly. Pan fried. Crispy bottom and soft top. This is the first time in the last 9 years I have seen this. We live in the states, have done for the past 9 years and all gyoza are frozen factory ones and then deep fried. These were so much better. Add cabbage Finely chopped, garlic, ginger and again that green onion and they would be very close to a Japanese correct gyoza, for using thick Chinese wanton skins. That part is opinion. As is they are your gyoza and they are very good. All three "ramen" we tried were very good. Presentation, toppings, and the soups were all good. The pork was strange but not bad. If you are expecting chashu it isn't. It is pork. But they are not advertising chashu. Of the three the Tantanmen was best. The soup was really good. Not the best I have had but the best I have had is either Misen or Asian noodle in Nagoya. Both are different but good. This is also good. There are sooo many different variations of ramen in Japan. It is an art and every chef has his own variation. This is a very good one. So my complements. For those who have opinions on the flavor or the saltiness or whatever, again this is the chefs choice, and recipe. You go back to the stores you like and don't go back to the ones you don't. There is no correct, and incorrect. If you feel that way, get educated. Different is good and correct. People tour japan to try all the different kinds in search of the one "they" like best. I have two points of disappointment here. And they are big. Ramen should he served piping nuclear hot. This like all other ramen we have had in North America was kinda hot. But not hot enough. Hotter than warm but not like a Japanese ramen shop hot. But I do not fault the restaurant for this. North America is litigious about these things and if you wanted to serve the ramen like in Japan you would need all your guests to sign a wavier. So I get it. I don't deduct anything for this. Just expressing myself. I have lost so much mouth skin over the years with ramen in Japan. The big disappoint, is a big one. The noodles. These are not ramen noodles. They tasted like old dry somen, or Chinese lo mein, or chow mein. Cant put my finger on it. But they are not ramen. Ramen are wheat noodles (sometimes with egg) and they should be crinkly. They are cooked in alkaline water (baking powder). They should be thicker and almost a little chewy. What a ramen noodle actually is, is the one thing that unities all ramen as ramen. It is the only real consistency amongst all shops. Be them road side Yattai or proper stores they all have ramen. I lived in Japan for 20 years. I have eaten ramen from Hokkaido all the way down to Okinawa. I have a pretty good understanding of this. I have seen the store owner saying in other reviews "we don't make Japanese ramen"well ramen is a type of noodle. Your noodles are not ramen so it is simply incorrect to call it ramen. It would be like calling ramen pasta of a salmon a cod. Yes. It is still a noodle but not the noodle you are expecting. You serve great bowls of soup with noodles in them. Good ramen is three things, soup, toppings, and noodles. (And heat but I waive the heat). If I compare this to 20 years of ramen in Japan, and that is hundreds of Bowls, it would pan out like this : Soup: 80%. Yea. Top 20th percentile. That is good. (Tantanmen) Toppings: 70%. Sorry you will never have the same things as in Japan. Noodles : 1%. Sorry. Just not ramen. So that makes 50%. And I give 10% for the creativity. I know how hard it is to get stuff in Newfoundland, and they are doing well. And for the creativity I would say great job. I was happy and surprised to see ramen here. I have not lived here in 30 years. Fantastic. If you have never had great ramen in Japan this is very good and you won't know the difference. But man. If you could get proper ramen noodles. It would just be spectacular.

Everyone in the restaurant was wearing their jackets. Decided to stay since we were ordering ramen (so it would be a hot meal). I ordered the Pork belly shoyu, and my partner got the tantanmen. Food came out decently fast. Both ramens were sour tasting and not good. The shoyu in my ramen had similar consistency as cardboard, and the other toppings were mediocre. My partners ramen had a really different taste and extremely non traditional. This place may work for you if you have never had good ramen in your life. But if you know a good ramen, then avoid this place. Maybe their silver lining is they have no other competition in the ramen sphere. Thus, locals have no other comparison.

Unfortunately as soon as she sat us and went to get us coffee a server arrived to frustratedly inform us that there was an issue in the kitchen, and we needed to either order that second or leave. Completely understandable there can be issues, but it wasn't our fault we were seated so being curt wasn't necessary, she could've been kind and made her point too. I didn't even have an opportunity to open a menu, but luckily my husband found an egg plate lightening fast so I said I'd take the same. The only difference we'd requested was our eggs cooked two different ways, which was wrong when the food came...but of course no use bringing that to their attention under the circumstances and she wasn't interested anyway. From then on we saw only the hostess again (as she came to check on our coffees). Other than that, we heard the staff somewhere joking loudly or occasionally turning customers away at the door due to the kitchen issue, and a female server (?) start berating the hostess right across from our table. Even though our order wasn't right the food was decent and portions huge. The interior setup is unique, most tables incredibly private. Maybe if we'd come on a different morning we could've enjoyed a meal here, this just clearly wasn't the morning to stop in.
