Rather than working with me to find the right treatment, he made me feel unheard and unsupported. Thankfully, I've since found a real ADHD specialist who actually listens and provides meaningful help--no gimmicks, no pointless conversations, and no pressure. The first appointment was canceled the day before. Things happen so I rescheduled for another day. During the initial appointment Dr. Rahman was dismissive when I addressed my concerns regarding ADHD treatment and options. She questioned the competence on my therapist and insisted that I was depressed even though I explicitly expressed that I was not. I had no feelings of depression or anxiety. She offered Wellbutrin and I declined. After a long drive to the Evanston Clarity Clinic location for a face to face appointment she reluctantly prescribed me 10mg of Vyvanse. After a week on the medication and doubling the dosage after a few days as she instructed, I had a follow up appointment were I explained how I hadn't noticed any change or experienced any of the previously mentioned side effects. At this time she responded "well maybe you don't have ADHD", and insisted again that I was suffering from depression or anxiety. She did not listen to me at all and showed a lack of consideration for what I was experiencing. I felt like this was a form of discrimination. I decided to see another psychiatric provider who gave me a formal evaluation that confirmed my original diagnosis. I have noticed a significant positive change since receiving proper medication management. It is unfortunate that Dr. Rahman made a diagnosis based on her personal biases without evaluating me herself or even adjusting medication.

Over the phone she was friendly, but instead of interviewing me on why I was seeking a shrink, she talked a lot about herself and not in a way that told me about her shrinking methods. It was in a self promoting sort of way. That should have been my first clue that I needed to stay away, but she was a block my my house, and I was depressed. Her office in in her husband's law office. I found this odd and creepy. The place is old and dusty and did not have a comforting vibe. It looked very Addams Family-ish. In our session she tried struggled to understand my issues. She told me that I was making a big deal out of nothing when I expressed anxiety about running in to my ex. It was as if she had no clue on how to validate a feeling, even if she herself couldn't grasp what I might have been feeling. The axe came down when I told her that I had lost my job. For fear that I couldn't pay her (she doesn't do sliding scale even though she told me over the phone that she does sometimes.) she quickly wrote down references for other places that I could go to. One was Catholic Charities, she then made some rude comments about catholics and said that I may not like going to Catholic Charities because I am Jewish. She didn't even finish the session which she insisted that I pay for. This therapist is proof that they can be the wackos in the shrink-client relationship. LCSW certainly stands for Licensed Crazy Stupid Woman in this case.

The final report was extremely disappointing. Several diagnoses and recommendations seemed to be based on isolated comments from my intake instead of the overall evaluation or the concerns I was actually seeking testing for. It felt like broad conclusions were drawn from very limited information while the primary reason I pursued testing was largely overlooked. Even more frustrating, many of the recommendations were approaches I had already pursued over the past four years without success. That made the report feel generic rather than personalized to my history or circumstances. I also never had the opportunity to meaningfully discuss the findings with a licensed professional, despite waiting months for this process. Overall, I left feeling that my time, money, and concerns were not treated with the level of care or expertise I expected. Based on my experience, I would recommend looking elsewhere if you're seeking a comprehensive, individualized psychological evaluation.
