I previously left a negative review about JL Wennes, but after further experience I realized my concerns were due to miscommunication and, honestly, my own lack of knowledge. After a bit of fussing I was able to secure an in-person meeting. Since then, my taxes were promptly handled, and the accountant was extremely competent. I left the meeting not only satisfied, but also impressed by the amount of money JL Wennes was able to save me. That outcome compelled me to return here and update my review. If, like me, you find taxes overwhelming and want someone to walk you through every step, JL Wennes may not be the perfect fit. However, they are highly competent, and once you get up to speed with their process, the value is absolutely worthwhile. I now plan to remain with JL Wennes for many years to come. Not because they apologized or begged me to, they did not, but because they are highly competent and I want to save money on my taxes. I believe at the end of the day this is the single metric people use to measure the performance of their CPA and thus my prior review would be misleading. read more

Submitted my documents early February this year. Contacted them about a month later for update on when my taxes would be filed. Got a 'yeah, busy right now' answer. A month later finally told us the tax deadline was extended...great for you guys! But the reason I sent in everything early is to file asap. Portal is also a bit clunky. And can't contact CPA directly, have to go through their assistant or receptionist who doesn't know anything about my finances. Poor customer service, will be going elsewhere. read more

Janet has made some changes and although she's in the same location, she's technically a new business these days. My last review still rings true and its copied here: I know my boyfriend might disagree, but Janet is the best thing that's ever happened to me! I look forward to seeing her next year (and the year after that and the year after that...) Who says that? "I can't wait to go see my tax professional!" Well, I do! My monies are a little complicated, and in the past, I trusted a big brand like H & R block to handle my annual tax returns. I was hoping that their guarantees would assure that any issues would be handled and that they would be super knowledgeable and on the ball. WRONG. So wrong. Year after year it has been an expensive hassle and finally, after a situation where they clearly didn't understand some stock option terminology and where I had to fix their computers FOR them while sitting there in a painful two-hour session, I had enough. Enter Janet, like a tax goddess from on high! She swooped in and sorted out my life in a quick 1-hour meeting. Maybe I'm not complicated after all! Let's be honest, she only needed like 20 minutes, the rest of the time we were just getting to know each other. Her company is so enjoyable! They got the tech needed too, none of this silly "come in to sign" business and unnecessary billable hours. My return was completed with their virtual portal and email - like it should be!
