The worst communication (rather lack thereof) and office team I've ever encountered. I requested a prescription refill for birth control and first of all no one ever picks up the phone at the office, you can't send an email (which is on their website, but defaults to a message that says to call them...um) and when you leave a message, it's basically going into a blackhole. It took them over 2 weeks to leave me a voicemail saying that the declined my request. They said I should book an appointment for a pap- um how would I even begin to do that if they are not able to return calls or even answer calls in general? Do not come here if you want anyone responsive or remotely communicative, the staff here is totally incompetent and useless, sadly at this point the doctor is kind of on the same page as well. I've never had so many issues with getting birth control prescription from a doctor. Stay away ladies. read more

As a private practice, I don't believe this office has the infrastructure in place to provide adequate care in the obstetrics field. I was referred to this office for my first pregnancy and when I went in for my first ultrasound at 7 weeks, the baby was measuring at only 5.5/6. Dr. Tamayo was skeptical that I knew when I ovulated, and believed that it was just too early. When I told her that I was tracking my ovulation and even showed her my calendar, she laughed nervously and then just kept saying, "Well if you think you know, then..." but wouldn't finish the sentence. I was sent for HCG testing at a separate lab, two days apart. On the day I was to receive a call about my HCG results, the office's phone lines were down. Every time I called I got a "Call Failed" notice. I was so desperate for information that I called another office in the same building and asked if they could go to the office and see what was going on. I was told that their phone lines were just "down," and that they would call on Monday. This was a Thursday. There was seemingly no recognition of the stress this situation could cause a patient and no effort made to contact me to alleviate any of it (I'm pretty sure someone in the office had a cell phone they could have used). Once I got the call on Monday, I was told that my HCG looked good and to come back in a week. I felt like something wasn't right, though, and pushed to speak to Dr. Tamayo. Melina then got very impatient with me, telling me that the Dr. didn't have time to talk to me on the phone because I was "one of many patients, and if she talked to the phone with every one of them, she wouldn't have time for appointments." Feeling pretty appalled and brushed aside, I snapped and told her just get me an appointment, after which she told me that I needed to treat her like a human being. My thoughts were, "likewise!" It turned out that the baby wasn't growing and I went forward with Misoprostol to miscarry at home, per Dr. Tamayo's orders. I went in for a follow-up 3 weeks later, where Dr. Tamayo informed me that the miscarriage was complete. However, I continued to feel sick. A month and a half later I ended up in the ER, where a much more thorough ultrasound showed that I had leftover pregnancy tissue in my uterus. I ended up getting a D&C with a different doctor, because at this point I had lost all trust in Dr. Tamayo and her office. A miscarriage is painful enough without the added pain of feeling ignored, and trivialized by your doctor. Moreover, there is no after hours line where you can call and get advice from a doctor. You are basically told that if you aren't having a life threatening emergency, you can't talk to anyone outside of business hours, but as my story proves, you can barely talk to anyone inside business hours, either! It also bothers me that no one ever answers the phone at the office. You have to call and leave a voicemail and then Melina calls you back later. If anyone has bothered to read this review this far, know that I believe Dr. Tamayo to be a capable doctor, but one who has no business working in obstetrics if she can't commit to after hours care, reliable phone lines for her patients, and empathetic staff who can handle difficult situations. I would definitely not recommend this office to anyone, especially for first-time pregnancies read more

Dr. Tamayo has been the best OB I could have asked for. I've had both of my sons with her at Glendale Adventist in 2020, during the pandemic, and 2022. She is incredibly kind, understanding and happy to help. She can move through appointments quickly, but if you have a list of questions, she's more than happy to go through them with you. She is also calm and positive during delivery. Once she arrived at the hospital, she jumps right in, having great relationships with the hospital staff, and calmly getting you ready to push. I have zero complaints with her quality of care. My only one call out would be the staff - I think at times it can be hard to call in/get the help you might need if you're not in the office. She's got a heavy patient load, so her staff is essential to moving folks through and sometimes you can get stuck waiting for a call back or playing phone tag. If Im lucky enough to have another baby I'll be seeing Dr. Tamayo and have recommended her to all of my close friends. read more

I have been going to Dr Tamayo for 7 years now ! I am very picky with my doctors and I am so fortunate to have her as my doctor . She is calm, friendly, and knowledgeable. What I love about her is she doesn't make a big deal out of things like most doctors do . She explains everything thoroughly and tells you the truth but always very optimistic . I hope you take the time to read this if you are considering seeing Dr. Tamayo. I waited a few months before writing these thoughts. The reason I'm leaving three stars and not one is solely because of Dr. Welebir, Tamayo's partner in the practice, who my wife and I were sent to see after Tamayo abandoned us. I don't use that word lightly. Dr. Welebir is an excellent communicator, and most importantly, kind and compassionate. There are plenty of people who believe in Dr. Tamayo, and that's fine. We used to, before we lost three pregnancies on her watch in less than 18 months. Clearly Dr. Tamayo shines when you are well into a successful pregnancy, but if you are navigating the slightest bit of risk early in pregnancy, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for your care. We continued to trust Dr. Tamayo after the second loss because she began to help us in ordering more tests, and gave us the time for a discussion about how to approach the next attempt. Melina (primary office staff) screwed up several times in ordering all the necessary tests which complicated things, but when we finally got pregnant for the third time - this is when we felt most abandoned by Dr. Tamayo. We could not get a conversation with her, everything went through Melina on the phone, which was an unpleasant experience at a time when we needed our doctor most. Without getting into details, we had concerns about some of my wife's test results after 6 weeks that we feel were not taken seriously enough or treated with any urgency. After research and conversations with other professionals, we are simply not convinced that a third miscarriage was a foregone conclusion. To put it another way, we may not have had to endure a third loss. The worst part about it is that again, there was no direct contact with Tamayo at this point. It was Melina who was tasked with telling us quite coldly "you're probably going to miscarry so get ready for that." Ultimately it was Dr. Welebir who helped us through the miscarriage process. It is abundantly clear that Dr. Tamayo does not want to deal with situations like ours, and the excuse we were ultimately given for the shameful handling of our situation was that a woman must miscarry three times before she is considered a candidate for more advanced treatment measures. Totally non-responsive! I was trying to find an OB/GYN for my daughter who was arriving from overseas at 34 weeks (to escape a war zone) and deliver her baby here. I called Dr. Tamayo and left a voice mail explaining what we needed and to let us know if it was possible the Dr. Tamayo could see her. To cover all the bases, I sent an e-mail using the link on her web site. 24 hours later, I received message that the e-mail couldn't be delivered. Essentially, the e-mail on her web site doesn't exist. Back to the phone message, never received any response. If she couldn't be seen, a reply letting us know would be have been nice. I had my first visit with Dr. T at her new office yesterday. I seriously felt that nothing was different, it was actually better, which I didn't think was even a possibility. First off, parking is free. It's free and its at an office in Glendale on Chevy Chase, right across from several other doctors offices and Glendale Adventist, all where you must pay for parking. My anxiety level has never been so low knowing that I didn't need to feel rushed or in a hurry to get back to my car. The building itself is newer and the lobby is super nice with a tv and couches, the elevator was not scary, her office is on the third floor and exactly straight from exiting out of the elevator, easy access! I love Melina, the receptionist, and I absolutely love Lee, both have been with Dr. Tamayo forever and were there when I delivered my daughter 4 years ago. I went in for my annual exam and it was seriously so easy. I have to add to this that for all you larger ladies, which includes myself, she has large exam coverups to wear that actually fit all the way around you, no more of those small, paper coverups that really sucked that made you feel bigger than you actually are. Overall feeling inside the office is super warm. Everyone is always smiling, Dr. Tamayo does not forget you or your family, 4 years later she still remembered giving birth to my daughter, although I'm sure my outrageous family that was in the delivery room entertaining had a lot to do with that, but just knowing that she remembered really made me feel good. She is so personable, you can talk to her and most importantly she listens, there has never been one awkward moment with my legs in the stirrups with her. If you care about your life or the life of your partner, please read this review before choosing Dr. Tamayo as your OB. My wife gave birth a few months ago, and up until the night our daughter was born, we would have told you that Dr. Tamayo was the best -- personable, efficient, and professional. We weren't surprised that we'd only heard good things. The first sign that something was truly wrong with Dr. Tamayo/her practice was when my wife went in for a check-up one week and one day past her due date. Tamayo told us her receptionist would get us scheduled for hospital NSTs right away so we could make sure the baby wasn't in distress. Eight hours and multiple unreturned phone calls later, we still did not have an appointment. We had to call the hospital ourselves and they told us to just come in right away and they would take care of contacting Tamayo. Only then did we get the care we needed. Unfortunately, our baby was indeed in distress and we needed an emergency C section that night. We could and should have been seen many hours sooner, but Tamayo/her staff could not be bothered to prioritize my wife's high-risk pregnancy. Still, I wouldn't have written this review but for what followed. My wife healed fully from surgery and all appeared to be well until approximately three months post-partum. She was then hit with severe and sudden post-partum depression/anxiety that made her suicidal seemingly overnight. We signed her up for therapy immediately but were told she could not be prescribed any medication for one week and she should contact her OB. My wife called Tamayo to explain what was happening and that she needed immediate help/medication. A few hours later, Tamayo's receptionist called back to say that my wife was no longer Tamayo's patient and, basically, she should buzz off. We didn't know what to do. After a couple of very scary days where I thought my wife would have to be committed, I took her to urgent care, where the doctor was absolutely horrified that my wife's OB would refuse to even speak to her during a time known to be high risk for critical mental health episodes. He prescribed medication and specifically wrote in his summary notes that he would never have prescribed medication after one visit if my wife's OB hadn't abandoned her. Every single mental health professional she has spoken to since (and there have been about a dozen) has expressed total outrage and disbelief that a doctor could do such a thing. We have been patching together care for my wife ever since and thank goodness we found that urgent care doctor. If it were up to Dr. Tamayo, my wife would be dead. Please, please, please seek care elsewhere. read more

However, it's very upsetting that the appointment you made last year for an annual check up is no longer available unless the existing patient is pregnant. I also had to call the office to confirm my appointment that I made last year and now I have to find a doctor last minute for annual check up. The receptionist last year said Dr. T doesn't want any new patients unless they're pregnant and only keeping the existing ones - I guess that all changed now due to Covid. Dr. Tomayo delivered my first child & she was fantastic! I had actually transferred to her from another Dr who simply didn't listen, didn't get me. I'm so glad I transferred my care to Dr. Tomayo! She's careful, attentive, & friendly. Having been pregnant for the first time, she took care of all of my questions & concerns, & genuinely listened to my birth plan. I was planning an all natural drug free birth. She was on board 100% & believed in me & encouraged me. My birth was perfect, exactly how I had planned & after my daughter was delivered she even complimented me, "wow, you were so calm I thought you had gotten an epidural!" and congratulated me on a successful birth plan. Unfortunately now with my 2nd child I have different insurance which she doesn't take so she won't be delivering my 2nd baby :( But, to all those mothers who are looking for loving, supportive first time, second time, third time birth, Tomayo is your gal!! read more

I was so excited for my first appointment with Dr. Tamayo and unfortunately before I made it to the 10 week appointment I miscarried. This was my first pregnancy so it was all new and very scary for me. Melina at the front desk was very attentive, though it took a few calls to get through, she got back in touch with me right away and pointed me in the right direction. Unfortunately when you're experiencing a miscarriage that early in pregnancy there is nothing that can really be done, unless you want to go to the emergency room. They had me keep my 10 week appointment and I went in to meet Dr. Tamayo after my blood tests confirmed that I had a miscarriage (blood tests off site). Everyone in the office is kind, gentle and genuine. I was so very emotionally vulnerable and overwhelmed but Dr. Tamayos positive attitude, attentiveness to my questions and care was beyond my expectations. She is truly a wonderful person. Going above and beyond I was having trouble with my insurance, Melina is really wonderful and helped with that. I now live in Joshua Tree and I am so so sad that I cannot go to this office for my first pregnancy. read more

My wife and I had a terrible experience dealing with this medial office. Each step of the process will require multiple tries, since there is always an error or information missing from documents provided. The note keeping at this office is pre computer age and the doctor will ask you if she has advised you of different routes to take, instead of relying on her medical notes. You must write down everything she says, since no other way to track any information. The staff, including the doctor herself, will never take responsibility for any of their shortcoming and will just point fingers at others. Your appointments can be canceled with zero notification to you. The billing will be off. One simple test request to Quest took her staff more than 5 times to get it correct. Dr. Tamayo may be a great doctor, but she should not be running her own office, especially with the current staff. Any attempt to contact the doctor via email or phone will be answered by front staff. read more

Dr. Tamayo is an extraordinary OBGYN and I was very lucky to find out about her through a friend. There were occasionally minor hiccups over the 8 months I went to her (ie. last minute appt cancellation because she was delivering a baby) but overall Dr. Tamayo, her nurses, and the desk staff were all wonderful. Melina at the front desk was especially kind and helpful which I always appreciated. They did a great job dealing with our Blue Shield PPO and I never had any difficulties with billing. I wasn't thrilled with Glendale Adventist as a hospital but I will say that my delivery and all of the care from Dr. Tamayo's side was stellar. She was truly wonderful during the birth and my husband and I were very happy that we chose her as our doctor. I feel like the recommendations Dr. Tamayo gave us were all well thought out and she always listened to our concerns and let us choose our path in terms of interventions and what parts of our birth plan we wanted to follow when it was time to have our baby. She checked on me so many times during the 24 hours I was in labor since her office is right across the street from the hospital. She helped us weigh pros and cons for what we needed and was always willing to take the time to talk about everything during my appointments and especially in the delivery room. Her new office is really cozy and I have to say I am a huge fan of her husband's whale paintings. Update 10/12/16: I received a bill from Counsyl genetic testing for 7/15 in October 2016 for $350. They said Dr. Tamayo's office had marked that I wanted to pay out of pocket. Both sides blamed the other but when I told Counsyl I wanted them to bill my insurance they were unable to do so because so much time had passed and they agreed to a $0 balance. I didn't owe them anything but it was a hassle. Hope this can help someone in the same situation. read more

Hands down the best OBGYN. She delivered my 4th baby and the only regret I have, is not having her deliver my first three. I was pretty happy with my first OBGYN, other than they do have an on call schedule and she actually never delivered my baby, so I was kinda eh about but had nothing but great things to say, my second OBGYN delivered my middle two and she was great for my first then my second, she got weird (kinda rude) with staff during delivery and I was turned off by that. So then I asked around with my fourth and she came recommended by a few professionals in the medical fields so I went with it. Hands down made this experience, seamless and super organized. If I had to make one recommendation, the labs that you have to have drawn and any medical equipment (breast pump) is your responsibility to find and do the insurance work for, I work in insurance so I'm somewhat versed but can see how this may be annoying. Not a deal albreaker at all. Anyway, she's definitely a 5 star doctor and her staff is also ver organized and makes the appointment system flawless. Dr Tamayo is an amazing doctor, but what the point to have a great doctor if when you need to see her - you have been told to wait for 3-4 months unless you are pregnant. I have been Dr Tamayo patient for last 5 years, being able to see her ONLY once a year for the yearly checkups. But this year I needed to reschedule my appointment (that was scheduled a year ago!) and was told that I only can reschedule for the next year. I'm sorry, but it is not reasonable and does not make any sense. I will need to find a better practice if I care about my health. I saw Dr Tamayo for the first time as a new patient last year in October 2016. As a quality and caring OB/Gyn, she was very professional, courteous, and thorough in examining me and ruling out any presence of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, etc. I felt like I was in really good hands, which is so important when you want to monitor your women's health vigilantly! However, much to my shock and dismay, this year was the complete opposite when I called to book my annual exam! Dr Tamayo's front desk staff kept passing me back and forth like a ping pong ball, as if they did not even want to deal with me as a client. They were also not very friendly or courteous. It was only when I called this year that I found out that Dr Tamayo only sees and examines her pregnant patients, and that all non-pregnant patients are being routed to her sister. I felt that, as a current patient, it was really unfair for me to find out this way. Dr Tamayo and her staff had never emailed me or mailed me information about these changes. Plus, I don't know who her sister is, or how her sister examines patients. To make matters worse, her sister only works on certain Tuesdays. I tried to book an appointment to try out her sister. But I couldn't even do that because I was told that the Tuesdays I was trying for were off-limits since she was off on those days. I have never encountered such an inflexible doctor's office until now! Why are Dr Tamayo and her staff making it so ridiculously difficult to book an appointment? And in a way, making my life so difficult? I don't have time for this!! I am in the process of looking for a new OB/Gyn who is covered under my insurance plan. And thank goodness for Yelp and Google Reviews!! I have found a few potential ones who I may consider and switch to soon!! read more

BEST DOCTOR IN THE WORLD!!! Dr. Tamayo just delivered my first baby girl and she was absolutely amazing! Thankfully I had a very smooth pregnancy but our labor was a little tricky with some heart rate issues with my baby- Dr. Tamayo was incredible. Okay, I use to love this clinic I swear! Dr. Tamayo is amazing! Very kind and compassionate and has amazing bedside manner! What I didn't like was the receptionist she has always been very rude! So I called a couple of weeks ago because I found out I'm pregnant again last time Dr. Tamayo went to see me when I mentioned to the receptionist "Melina" that I have a high risk pregnancy due to multiple miscarriages and Dr. Tamayo was kind enough to let me come in. Fast forward to today when I spoke to Melina she was talking over me doesn't let me finish my sentence and would raise her voice at me. I was very pleasant-- I am trying to see if maybe they will let me see Dr. Tamayo because of my condition. I was trying to explain to Melina if it's possible that I see Dr Tamayo because last time she made an exception and let me come in because I had an ectopic pregnancy and multiple miscarriages I wasn't even done talking yet and she raised her voice at me and told me "I told you we only see patients past 6-7 weeks" so I said oh yes I understand I was just wondering if maybe she will again this time because it might be ectopic and to just ease my worry. And she said it doesn't matter because even if if's ectopic the Dr won't be able to see anything! So I said okay thank you whatever schedule she have on there then. She scheduled me for the 13th of October for my ultrasound. I called a couple of days back because I miscarried. I told Melina that I have to cancel the appointment because I had another Chemical pregnancy and she responded with "Oh okay, let me cancel your appointment" no thank you no empathy at all!!! I have been working at a hospital for the past 2 years and I always treat patients with compassion and kindness and it sucks to know that people like Melina works in the same field!!! read more

I was so lucky to have Dr Tamayo deliver both of my darling babies. Her office staff is AMAZING and so kind. I have referred multiple people to her and will continue to do so for as long as she is practicing. I kept my PPO insurance just so that I could have her as my Dr. she is cool calm and collected and instantly puts you at ease. There is rarely a wait to see her and you never feel rushed. I'm really upset that I have to write this. I have been going to Dr. Tamayo's office for well over a decade. She delivered my son. And because of that past experience I am giving her two stars. I just called to schedule an appointment and was told that I could only see her if I am currently pregnant. Not trying to get pregnant, but actually pregnant. This is extremely upsetting as I wanted to CONTINUE to have an honest conversation with a doctor who I have a long relationship with about my fertility. I'm getting older. Fast. I don't have time to waste to find a new doctor and build that relationship. I don't want a cold, clinical conversation about this. I asked if I could send her an email and was told that I may be charged for it. And even worse, she may not read it. I mean... WTF?! This person has played an enormous role in my life. I understand that Dr. Tamayo has a ton of babies to deliver, but it REALLY sucks that she is hanging her long time clients out to dry. Very happy to have had Doctor Tamayo deliver my baby boy last year. She and her team are so nice and really take the time to listen. I saw Dr. Tamayo once a few years back, and had a good experience. However, I've called twice now and requested my medical records, the first request being urgent due to an upcoming procedure and need for a second opinion. Two months later, I still have not received my records, and neither of my calls have even been returned. For comparison, when I needed records from Planned Parenthood and Kaiser Permanente, I got them within a day. It is very disappointing that the doctor I paid the most is now providing the least. read more

Very impressed with Dr Tamayo. She is I guess what every doctor should be (but are sadly not). She cares, she is attentive. knowledgeable and VERY thorough. Dr Tamayo has a very high standard of practice not only for herself but everyone she employees. I am now 29 weeks pregnant and I had to switch OBGYN as I was not impressed by my first OBGYN. The staff is pretty rude and the front office staff is someone who made me drop this Doc as the preferred Gynaecologist for my Wife. Gave two appointments and both were not honoured by the doctor. Each time when one reaches in time, there is "Surprise update" that doc is not there wait for 45 minutes to an hour. That too the update is not given with compassion, rather in a rude manner. I would not suggest if I would ever recommend her to anyone in my circle. read more

My FAVORITE obgyn office. They are cognizant of your time and appointment times are true. This is not one of those offices you walk in to a lobby full of people (even before covid). Drs Tamayo and Welebir are kind, patient and seem to genuinely care about your overall well being. They've got my full endorsement. read more

I LOVE Dr. Tamayo! Like, love her! She's super attentive, listened to all my concerns and questions, is hardworking and really nice. I have been a patient of Dr. Tamayo for several years, first just for yearly gynecology exams, then while I was pregnant last year. I had a mostly positive experience and only have a couple of criticisms. She is a pretty laid back doctor. Not a worst-case-scenario type at all. That worked well for me as I am a pretty anxious person and I need a doctor who will reduce my anxiety, not add to it. So that was a plus for me, though it might not work for all pregnant women. She was exactly what I needed during my labor and delivery as well. I told her my preferences leading up to the birth, and she was very flexible on all fronts. Could be a good middle-ground between a strict doctor and a mid-wife, if you don't want to go as hippie as a mid-wife but also want some options while in labor. She was there for about the last 30-45 minutes of pushing and for the birth of my baby. Up to that point, she came to check on me once during my 15 hour labor and was in touch with the nurses by phone multiple times. Her office staff is...imperfect. But bear with them. Melina (the receptionist) is gruff, but she knows what she's doing. My biggest criticism of Dr. Tamayo was after the birth at my 6-week checkup. She didn't even ask me about my mood or talk to me about postpartum depression. I thought this was kind of negligent, to be honest. Women get all of one follow-up appointment after pregnancy, and this is such an important component of it. She needs to work on that. So my advice is: -Don't go to see Dr. Tamayo if you aren't pregnant. (I'm not even sure she takes non-pregnant patients at this point.) I had a couple of appointments cancelled last minute (one after I already arrived) because she had a patient in labor and needed to leave. This was OK with me because I knew she'd prioritize me while I was in labor. But if I'd gone for a pap smear or something, I'd have been annoyed. -Do go see Dr. Tamayo if you want a laid back, kind, flexible doctor for your pregnancy. If I have another child, I will most likely go to her again as I have no major complaints. read more
