HUGE store! mUCH bigger than Roseville with high ceilings, airy, relaxing, VERY well organized compared to more expensive Michaels! I had the marvelous task last month of finding a special Art & Crafts project to do for a weekend Crafts event in upstate Minnesota. I picked creating a giant sugar skull on thin etched wood using brightly colored felt, acrylic paints and sparkle complete w hand created Mexican flowers. SUCH fun! I found unique mounting foundations to hot glue my piece on -- tin that was created with a deep wave which i spray painted in black with a ramie hanger. 50 cent pieces of thick wonderful felt, a huge selection throughout the store of fine scissors, Joanne brand hot glue gun at an excellent price performing perfectly. I also fell in love with their carefully thought out selections of BEAUTIFUL delicate naturally colored artificial flowers, holiday decorations to craft, hang, their artist supplies to draw paint, and of course their great selection of textiles. My 92-year-old " speedy gonzalez" mom in San Diego gifted me her beautiful sewing machine..... so of course i am SERIOUSLY considering taking sewing courses here! Enjoy! read more

I made the horrible decision of going with a certain material for a project and getting them to actually have some in stock has been a nightmare and a half... todays adventure I drive a half hour to show up and have them tell me that the burlap the " set aside" which I showed up to some idiot saying oops, we thought we had some but didn't actually... why would you take my name and number and say you have it sat aside then. These places are horrible but literally the only place you can get fabric so just know what you're getting into. read more

I can't remember the last time I had a good experience at Joann's. No matter what location I go to the staff is abhorrent. Most recently I went looking for candle wicks. (Which I KNOW I have bought from Joann's before). I had to wait in the checkout line because there were no available employees to help me. The cashier told me that the line didn't start where I was. I told her I have a question, " What's your question?" I asked my question. "Yeah-we don't have those." Snooty, Rude, Tactless. Not helpful. I just cannot relay my unhappiness about these stores. Clearly they must not be a good company if at EVERY location their employees are rude snobs. I'd rather shop elsewhere where my business is appreciated. read more

I came in and bought something and it was a different online so I price matched it and I also had a 40% off coupon I used and when I told the lady aka her name was Jill this she had a really bad attitude and rolled her eyes at me like it was the end of the world. if your website says One price and in your store is another price that's not my problem! Today was my first time in this particular Jo-Ann location. I drove out here from the Apple Valley store to make an exchange on a Cameo, that was bought last night at the Maple Grove location. Since neither Apple Valley (the closest store to where I live), nor Maple Grove (who sold us the damaged/used item) had any in stock, my only option was to drive out this way. The return went smoothly... Though it took a while to get help. That said, the line for the regular checkout was rather long and they had been helping customers check out at the returns desk. In general my rating of the "3" is primarily because of the hassle it took to have to go to so many locations just to get this product... This company really needs to find a way to make things easier for their customers. read more

Deanna accused a customer of lying and trying to return a washed/dried fabric. The customer work for this location at one time and would never lie and return merchandise that wasn't still in new condition. She then turned to the 'manager' and the manager said your call. They made this customer leave and return it to a different location. I don't know how Deanna or the so called manager have jobs. Joann must be desperate to continue to employ incompetent people. I for one will not shop or take any more classes at Joann. read more

I have a confession to make. I bought yarn here over the weekend. And...wait for it... ...wait for it... I love it! Now, you have to realize that for me, the previous statement is equal to a self-proclaimed foodie admitting she just went to Chipotle and loved her burrito or a fashionista admitting she can't live without that to-die-for sweater she just bought at Kohl's. The reason is because I am a fiber snob of the most obnoxious variety. I'll spare you the gory details, but seriously, I find 99% of the yarn they sell here offensive. And bad yarn makes me sick. Luckily for Joanne's, they've smartened up and started carrying something other than those foul skeins of Red Heart Super Saver. And buried amongst all that painfully awkward acrylic, I found some natural fibers and suddenly I heard angels singing. Hallelujah! At our last Yelp Knit Night, Jennifer L. was working on a felted cat bed for her feline friend, Izzi. And after seeing the completed pictures on www.ravelry.com, I got jealous and decided that *I* wanted a cat bed too. And even though my cats are the most awesome cats ever, I just couldn't justify the cost of a more expensive variety of yarn so went seeking cheap wool at Joanne's, with a 50% off one item coupon, nonetheless. It was a success! Not only did I find something that is perfectly suited for her highness, Princess Molly the Spoiled-One, I am also completely head-over-heels in love with the color. The wool reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream: strawberry pink, milk chocolate and vanilla. Yum! As soon as I finish Molly's cat bed, I plan on arming myself with another coupon and looking for something more masculine for Prince Oliver the other Spoiled One. I can't wait! read more

I ordered almost $100 of merchandise for our wedding and thanks to Joann's refusal to offer refunds and using FedEx SmartPost, I can't get my money back for a package that was stolen! Joann will not help us, and FedEx can't help with SmartPost orders. Great planning to have all orders delivered at 9AM on weekdays!! This review applies to the custom framing shop only, although some of its problems may be related to the management of the whole store. I went in one weekend evening to have a small canvas painting framed. I stood there for a good 20 minutes while the lady behind the desk helped someone pick out their frames and mats, agonizing over every detail with them. When she finally helped me she was very nice, but it turns out she had no idea what she was talking about and I ended up having to come in and completely re-do the order (the frame she sold me wasn't deep enough because the canvas would need to be stretched, the "fillet" she sold me to go between the mat and the painting wasn't a fillet at all, but an accent for the frame, etc.). Not only this, but it took over an hour because she didn't know how to work the computer program and after spending ages figuring out how to enter all the information she accidentally deleted it and we had to start over. (At this point she tells me she's only been working there a month...why would the manager have an untrained person working alone on items that cost several hundred dollars and require a lot of expertise?) Meanwhile another customer had come, and she had to wait a long time, too. When I went back to re-order everything I had to wait a good 15-20 minutes again--this time the saleswoman explained that someone had called in sick and they were short staffed. She actually had the expertise to get the frame order done correctly, but I will note that when she called the manager to double check the bill (b/c the first saleswoman had left a note saying the credit card hadn't gone through---which in fact it had), the manager was not at all friendly. I am happy with the final product, but I won't be going back to this poorly run store. read more

I ordered supplies to make masks for curbside pickup during the Coronavirus pandemic. The website said that the orders were taking a little longer than usual, which is perfectly understandable. I received an email asking me not to go to the store yet, and that they would contact me when the order is ready. No problem. So, I waited. And waited. Eventually, I called the store and asked how long pickup orders were taking. He said, "Five days". OKAY...What happed to a little longer than usual? TODAY IS DAY 6. read more

I went to Joann in Maplewood last night to pick up a couple items that their website said were available in store. I've not had good luck or pleasant shopping experiences at Joann, but I needed to go to another retailer in the same strip mall, so I gave it another try. This time was no better. Many shelves were bare or had a few sad Christmas leftovers at clearance price. Basic sewing notion racks were out of stock on many items. The entire store was shabby, run down, and uninviting. At the checkout, two cashiers assisted and bickered with a customer who had lost something in the store, while half a dozen customers stood in line and waited. There was no sense of hospitality or urgency. Finally another cashier sauntered up and opened a lane. The whole experience was rather dismal, like going to a ghost town. I don't know how this store stays in business. Don't waste your time here, Michael's and Hobby Lobby are within a few blocks. read more

She asked me what I was making because she noticed I had picked a very expensive felt material. She went and picked out a cheaper felt in the same color and saved me some big bucks. I was so grateful to have had the cut counter assistance of Karen at the store in Maplewood, MN. I was there to purchase fabric for bridesmaids' attire for my daughter's upcoming wedding. I took up an hour of her precious time, and she patiently and willingly went above and beyond to assist me in finding all the yardage I needed at various locations in the area. She took time to help me ensure my measurements were accurate, and also made sure I got the best "deal" possible with the coupons I had with me. She was gracious and kind. I was a loyal Joann customer for years. This location is worse than horrible. No carts left - - discovered that a VERY large majority of them were scattered about the store filled with stock items, and 8 of them sitting by the return desk overflowing with merchandise. Shelves weren't stocked, but stock was sitting in carts in the aisles. Forget the cutting table - a ridiculously long wait, partially due to the lack of staff. Sure, there were two cutters there, but one was a very bewildered older gentleman who clearly knew nothing about cutting fabric and needed much time from the other cutter to get his job done. Checkout line long and confusing and very poorly staffed. Nine people in line, two cashiers, one tied up with apparently complicated custom order. And those *&^%*& scented pinecones in the entry that assault your nostrils as you enter. Don't bother. read more

My mom purchased three bolts of fabric from the Woodbury location and only ended up using one. She walked into Jo-Ann's in Maplewood on 07/09/2017 to return the fabric. The "customer service" rep DEANNA at the fabrics counter accused my mom of washing and drying the fabric. Which she DID NOT! My mom used to work at this Jo-Ann's and would NEVER wash fabric. My mom asked to speak to the manager and the manager turned to Deanna (rude female) and said "Your call". Deanna told my mom that she would have to return the fabric to the Woodbury location because they sold her washed fabric. My mom had to drive the 20+ minutes from Maplewood to Woodbury to return the fabric. My mom explained what happen and the Woodbury store gladly returned. DO NOT SHOP AT THE MAPLEWOOD JO-ANN'S!!!! OMG! Tonight stopped in with my niece to get a gluegun since they had the 60% coupon. My niece end d up finding something she would like to get for her mom and I was like, well, I can pay for you since with the coupon it would not be as expensive! Mind you I went in there for my own glue gun! I paid for my niece first and when it was my transaction, the cashier looked at me and shook her head with disgust. Disgust! That is what I see. She told me I cannot use they same coupon for this second transaction and told me about corporate and how one person was able to use the coupon 21 times! I told her I paid for my niece and I am here for my own stuff! She practically told me she could loose her job if she did that for me and was willing to do it for me this time. Oh my gosh how generous of you! It is like a slap in the face and then being nice to me? Really? I spend practically hundreds of dollars a month, literally, because I like joann's. each year I spend thousands at this chain of stores and I have never felt so disrespected. I called the to speak to a manager and maryjo was on duty. She practically told me it is a policy and kept telling the same thing and how her employee did the right thing and the employee even was "GENEROUS" enough to offer to allow me to use the coupon! Really!? And at the end she as like, I will pass along this information and can I help you with anything else? Okay. Yup. I got a lot of customer service and so much respect from the whole store that I don't think I can ever ask for anything else ! I feel extremely disrespected and am so disgusted at the treatment I received tonight. I boycotted my favorite restaurant for over 6 years because of disrespect---how should I feel about this place now? Unacceptable! I use to love joanns because they let you use multiple coupons. It was always my first choice between Micheals, Hobby Lobby, and Joanns. Not so much anymore. They have some super nice employees but the store is always a mess! Boxes on top of boxes always waiting to be stocked, restocking is slow, very slow. Lines at cutting table are forever long at times as are the lines to check out. Also, it just feels dirty in the maplewood Joanns. Not sure what happened, what changed but I find I am choosing to go there less and less. read more
