Only recently have…read moreI experienced less craftsmanship and poor attitude on the part of the young lady working behind the counter. Perhaps it's due to what I was having framed, (Military and police memorabilia, badges, awards etc.) I was very polite on each visit and went out of my way to engage meaningful conversation, but was met with rude responses, scowl face and a clear unwillingness to do business with me. Because I made a true effort to be polite every time, I can only assume this young lady was not the right fit for the position. On one visit, she scolded me for not responding to their pick-up-order call. No message was left and my phone thought it was spam. Explaining this met with further rudeness. The second encounter she refused to work with my item to redo it, until I broke it out of the existing frame myself. Glass shattered everywhere and she offered nothing to assist in clean up. My third time I called ahead to see if this project was completed early and if I missed a call like before. Again, very rudely I was told it wouldn't be ready until the due date. I arrived to pick up the item on the due date only to learn she was just starting to work on the item. Now past due I still have not received a response referring to its completion. This young lady has no customer service skills and has stopped me from submitting my next project. I will not shop Michaels again as long as she is employed in their framing shop. Very disappointed!!!!!!

There was a time in my life when you could easily catch me doing the trifecta of stores here -…read moreMichaels, PetsMart, and Marsh. Alas, life changes and I don't really frequent this corner anymore with Marsh long gone and PetsMart no longer having as many live animals as they once had. While I'm not exactly a crafty person, I've seemingly always found something I like at Michaels. It's also always been a prime option for me when I've needed something framed. I'm not a fan of Hobby Lobby for a variety of reasons - so, on those rare occasions I need something in the craft arena this tends to be where I go. I'd been looking for an affordable Christmas wreath along with a couple basic decorations. I saw the Michaels Black Friday ad and decided to stop by after church today. This location has accessible parking, though it's not ADA (there's no actual signage). There's an appropriate curb cut and automatic doors. As is nearly always true for craft stores, the aisles tend to be a bit difficult for wheelchair users. I do like that they have the shorter carts. Store personnel tended to be friendly and I will say that craft-oriented shoppers tend to be friendlier than the "cut in front of me and you'll die" shoppers at your usual big box retailers. Michaels was definitely decked out for Christmas and it really dominated the store. They have pretty much all self-serve kiosks for check-out these days - I like that they have big screens (let's face it, Michaels has a high number of older shoppers). I didn't find everything I'd hoped to find at Michaels, though I did find a couple great items at great prices. Check out was quick and the rep was super helpful. Heck, I even signed up for the rewards club (3% back on all purchases, 6% once you hit $300). They also can look up your receipts if you need to make a return - great for folks like me who tend to lose receipts. Michaels has classes, events, and they still have a great selection of frames. They're great for knitting supplies, hobby activities, art supplies, and much more. For Christmas, you can get quite a bit at a wide variety of prices. This was a solid experience. It sure wasn't five star, especially because some of the aisles definitely had some accessibility issues, but it was a very solid four-star and I'd definitely go back. I will note they frequently have items outside their door - in itself wonderful, however, at times they do block the sidewalk in case you're wanting to go to PetsMart next door. Haverty's has taken the old Marsh spot.

Just about every type of craft and hobby supply imaginable. Additionally, there is a limited…read moreinventory of fabric and sewing supplies. The staff are very helpful though the store layout is a bit cramped for ease of accessibly. Aisles are well labeled. I find the pricing to be a bit high but the sales are very good (50%) and clearance (60-70%) even better.

We went back to their frame section and saw 2 large signs on the end caps that said "buy one item get one item free". At first we weren't finding anything we wanted so we visited the custom frame section. The employee back there, Rachel, kindly helped us quote a couple frames before I asked if the buy one get one applied to custom frames - they said no. We thanked them and we went back to look at the frames in the aisles. Still under the impression the regular frames were buy one get one, we picked 2 out and headed to self checkout. After ringing everything up, we saw that we were about to be charged full price for both frames. I pulled an employee aside and requested assistance to which she said "let me ask someone else". My husband followed her to the custom frame area, where Rachel told them that those signs didn't apply to ANY of the frames and, with an attitude, said "well that's exactly how corporate tells us to do it". Frustrated by what we perceived as false advertising, my husband requested to speak to a manager. He had to make the request 3 times before Rachel said "well I can get a manager but that's what corporate wanted". When the manager arrived, my husband took her to the 2 large signs on the end caps of the frame aisles and showed her that it said "buy one item get one item free" and that nowhere on the sign did it specify specific items (despite the fact that the manager and employees were telling us otherwise). Meanwhile, while my husband was explaining our frustration and how it was false advertising, I was waiting at the self checkout for him to return. The 1st employee that we interacted with returned to the checkout area and looked at me like she was wondering why I was still there. I said "my husband is talking to a manager because we feel this is false advertising". The woman responded with "well it isn't because the sign said it was for shadow boxes" (side note - there was a sign for shadow boxes but it was in the shadow box aisle). I replied to her saying "well my husband is speaking to a manager so you do not need to argue with me right now". She walked away. My husband returned to tell me the manager was going to give us 50% off both the frames. However, he shared that the entire time he was talking to the manager she was continuing to blame corporate and saying there was nothing she could do. When he challenged her one more time that she "couldn't do anything", she said "I guess I could give you a discount just this once". We were instructed to go through the checkout with a live person as opposed to self checkout, that way the cashier could give us our discount. We waited in line for several minutes (totally fine, not complaining), however we both realized that Rachel, the custom frame employee, was hovering around the checkout area the entire time and giving us very obvious dirty looks - utterly unprofessional. Needless to say, my husband and I were absolutely appalled by our experience at this Michael's location. The entire time we were trying to work towards a solution, we were being told that we were wrong and that it's corporate who makes the rules and they just follow them. We walked out of there with an understanding that this location does not do well to train their employees OR managers in customer service. Two employees argued with us, and the manager clearly did not approach the situation with intention to provide positive customer service or to come to a solution. Given that the employees and manager at this store seem to point to corporate when they have frustrated customers, perhaps corporate should step in and provide some training on correct advertising and appropriate customer service. While my husband and I are just 2 individuals and our refusal to go to Michael's moving forward will not hurt their corporate company, we will still be choosing Hobby Lobby for our crafting needs moving forward. And you can bet we will be sharing our experience with our friends and family.
