I Decided to order some fabric online to make some of masks to reduce the exposure to Covid-19. I read that the best fabric is Batik. Batik is used to make quilts. While Batik does not completely protect you, it is the highest among fabrics at 70-75 %. The thicker fabric while folded multiple times does increase protection. I placed the order online since the local stores are only open for pick-up. The order was placed on Thursday and I received a text that the fabric was available for pickup on Saturday. The pickup was very smooth. You call the store when you arrive and they bring the fabric out and put it in your trunk. The sales associates were very pleasant, under the current circumstances. My fabric was as advertised and I have more than enough to make several masks for under 15.00. Everyone please be safe out there. read more

I have recently re-discovered my love of quilting and decided to set out to make a memory quilt from my father in law's clothing as a gift for my mother in law. Giving away my machine, fabrics, notions, and supplies eons ago, I set out to Joann's to get a feel for a new machine (to purchase) and to get supplies. First things first - I went to Joann's to look at all of the machines they had out for demo purposes, knowing I had a pretty nice budget for a new machine (thank you, hubs) - and the staff member working the counter proceeded to show me a $10,000 machine. I am not kidding. Granted, her selling point was that it was on sale for $4,000 and she assured me I could finance it. While this Viking / Cadillac was AMAZING and had more features than anything I could dream of, it was juuuuuust a bit outside of my budget. I left the store with unprompted quotes for 4 machines in hand - all gorgeous - all out of my price range - and went home feeling a little defeated to reconsider my new hobby. Luckily I did not give up, and researched and purchased a beautiful Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 online that I love. Back to Joann I went for thread, notions, etc., joined by the hubs who is super supportive of my new hobby. We perused forever before deciding to just ask for help. The super cute and young gals behind the fabric cutting counter were SO nice - but struggled with knowing where to find things, directing me here and there, only to come up short ("Go to the long bolts of fabric for the 108" backing", "Invisible thread? Uhhh...", "Fabric stabilizer on a bolt? Check that isle down there"?), but we eventually managed to locate some things based on my research. Next trip - I wanted some very specific clips (Clover Wonder Clips to be exact), and NO ONE COULD FIND THEM until we ran in to my favorite all time Joann employee (see below), who located them and explained that his roommate uses these clips for every project, and they are life changing. $8 for 10 plastic clips, they had better be life changing (me to myself)...and they are! But knock offs are WAY cheaper on Amazon if you can wait. Another random side note, you can hear EVERYTHING in this store for some reason no matter where you are - conversations being had by staff - personal ones even - like they're sitting right next to you - but I digress. I have learned a lot in my pop ins to Joann Fabrics over the past month, and have some pro-tips to save you the headache I had the first few trips: + ALWAYS find / download their coupons on your phone as they ALWAYS have an offer for 50% off a regularly priced item and other random sales that makes things somewhat reasonably priced + If you are having fabric cut, take a number FIRST, then go find your fabrics - the line gets DEEP with folks and you will just stand there waiting if you grab a number later. + their selection of pre-cut charm packs and small jelly rolls is abysmal - go elsewhere + everything is overpriced - so wait for a sale or use a coupon + they have "on the fly" curbside shopping so you do not have to go inside! + Lines to check out move SLOW - but they are sanitizing counters between EVERY customer ... so hang tight. + staff wears masks - most of them properly / over the nose - some below. They ARE cleaning between every check out and there is a small cart sanitizing station when you enter on the right. TL/DR: Big box/one stop shop = meh for me as I would rather have a cute local place to support closer to home. However, this store is super duper close to me, is open a lot of hours, and generally has what I need (even if it is overpriced). More like 2-2 1/2 stars, but gave a star bump for 1 reeeeeally nice employee that always brings me joy when I see them. I've been shopping more at JoAnn's for floral related items this year. My first visit I was surprised at how many nice arrangements I found during a sale. While waiting in the checkout, I noticed a sign advertising their app and coupons so I quickly signed up. During the checkout, the cashier was very friendly and helpful. She showed me which coupons in the app to use to save the most money on purchase for the day. Since my first encounter here, I've done a pick up order on Black Friday without any issues, and I just placed another pick up order online. This store is well stocked, offers a variety of items for crafts, projects, and home goods/decor. Their app offers coupons for both online and in store use so be sure to download. read more

The store experience has really gone down hill. The shelves are a mess. It feels like shopping at a garage sale. Half opened cardboard boxes and merchandise litter the floors and end caps. This is located in a strip mall near Costco so it's the craft store that I pass the most. Lines here for the cutting table are generally quite long, take a number first if you have a good idea what you're buying. I've waited as much as 20 minutes and I've never walked right up and had items cut. It's a busy store. They carry all things craft supplies! They have supplies for scrapbooking, baking, sewing, framing, beading and other jewelry plus home decor and florals. The staff is generally very nice. The frame shop is great, they always have coupons and they do a nice job. I have had three items framed here and been very happy with the results. read more

I have popped into this location a few times, usually without a plan in mind just to see what is available that catches my eye and go from there. I do feel this store tends to be a little messy/disorganized, even compared to other Joann locations in my experience- especially in the front of the store when you First walk in. Also heads up if you are a germaphobe- every time I have visited they seem to be out of the sanitation wipes for their carts! I don't know if it's a coincidence or the carts just never get wiped down, but if you prefer a clean cart you might want to bring your own just in case. The staff is pretty helpful and knowledgeable, and there is a gigantic selection with sales going on all the time so overall it's still a good place to visit if you are looking for fabrics and sewing accessories. This location is fully stocked up and pretty busy because it is near castleton mall. They always have pretty good sales and this location is pretty neat. I did ask for help here and the lady back in the part where they cut fabrics didn't really want to help me or send someone to help. Usually, a Jo-Ann Fabrics store is a pretty good place to shop. Stay out of this one, though! It's a dump: messy and disorganized, so many items not labeled with a price, apparently little or no thought to how the store is put together. The fabric aisles are so jammed together that you can barely maneuver a cart and don't have enough space to back up and look at the fabrics. Bolts are on the floor and fabric is often soiled. Like all Jo-Ann stores, they are woefully understaffed, meaning that you can't get assistance in the sales floor and you will wait in long lines for the cutting table and cashier. Apparently, they are much more concerned with profit margins than with providing a positive shopping experience. It's even worse in a poorly managed store like this one. When your choices for fabric buying are limited to places where they throw in a hefty dose of conservative Christianity, the failure that is Wal-Mart fabric department, or Jo-Ann, it's probably not important to Jo-Ann Fabrics to cater to consumers. read more

Much like TJ Maxx, the check out line here pretty much ruins whatever positive experience you may have shopping here. I don't understand how a craft store can be so consistently busy no matter what day of the week or time of day it is, but that's their normal. Nonetheless, even with four check out lanes open, the line is always snaking back 15 people deep. And the separate line for fabric cutting is even worse. Sure, there are deep discounts, but I feel that it's become too big box. You can't seem to find things that are very unique any more. It's a shame. read more

What is not to like about a fabric and craft store? Especially a large one. I appreciate that they pretty much always have something on sale and are generous with the coupons. I recently learned they now have an app, so you can also get an instant coupon with that. They are especially heavily stocked on seasonal stuff. I have noticed the rubber stamps section is not as robust and the selection on more of the paper, scrapbook, journal as it used to be. I mean, what is there not to love?? It's a standard craft store that has so many things to choose from. My favorite thing about Joann is their coupons! You must sign up for their email and text alerts, and even download their app! The coupons are endless! You should never have to buy something at full price! Their fabric selection is unreal! It's almost too overwhelming! Some of them can be a little pricey but again, COUPONS, COUPONS, COUPONS! I do wish that they had more help at the fabric cutting station. I submitted an online order during quarantine and was never sent a confirmation email. I had to call the store twice to make sure they had my order (which they did have) and both calls I was given incorrect times on when I should expect to be able to pick up my order. Upon arrival, I was told that they did not have all the items I needed in stock (which I had already checked to make sure they did). After finding my parking spot, and walking into the store, I found myself in awe of how many shelves and racks, and rows there were nestled into this building! So, I started my journey around this massive place soon to find my first purchase. Moments later, an item came to my mind and I did not know where to find it in the store. Aimlessly I walked around aisle after aisle trying to find a sales person to help me with my predicament. To my dismay, there were no sales people on the floor to help me find My missing product. 15 minutes later and lots of searching complete I finally found my item (no thanks to the staff there). When I was ready to check out, the cashier made up for my search. She was very polite, had a smile across her face and made me feel great to be shopping at Jo-Ann Fabrics. If only they had more people like her on the sales floor to point customers in the correct direction, this store would be perfect. The lady at the measuring table was extremely rude. I'm just a guy who tried to return a few items for his wife. I was treated like a total inconvenience and like I was stupid. This was my first time in a fabric store, so while I may be ignorant when it comes to fabric and returning fabric, I did not appreciate the condescending tone or comments from her. This is also my first Yelp review, and I sincerely hope it's my last. But my 15 minutes in this store trying to return a couple items was bad enough that I felt it warranted a review on the store and on the employee. It's clear from years of shopping this store that cutters are trained to favor profits for the store over accuracy for customers when fabric has previously been cut so the edge is diagonal rather than straight. Poor cutting and shorting the customer a bit forces people to buy more to compensate for a diagonal cut that results in less fabric than you order. Some fabric is challenging to cut straight, I know, but yesterday I bought upholstery fabric- asked for 54 inches. When I got home one selvage was 54 and the other was 50, making it unusable by an inch. I figured 3 inches over was enough over-purchase to compensate for their habit of cheating customers out of fabric, but this was the worst yet, so now I have to go back to get a piece of fabric I can actually use. I understand tight bottom lines, but believe a better business practice might be to favor the customer with the extra fabric- making sure the shorter selvage is the length ordered, and hiring enough staff that cutters are not so rushed that they don't check both selvages to make sure they are not cutting crooked and cheating customers. read more

She glared at us and said, "I can't help you find it. I don't have time. Check in the patterns bin", as if we were dumb and didn't look there, "we don't get some brands in." After the remodel the store doesn't have some of the great features other locations have. Class projects are now posted in the classroom near the restrooms. If you are not aware of this, how do you know which classes you are interested in taking? The instructors are awesome, i have heard great things. Website said 6 of the storage container I wanted were in stock. Found 1 after searching for a while and a worker saying they couldn't find any on the inventory. Had another employee scan the item and the inventory said that there were 6 in store. They then said that they were unable to help me and that the inventory was probably inaccurate. Either way i would have appreciated the employee trying to help look or looking in the back of the store. If it is an inventory issue that "could take up to weeks to update" then that is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed by the store/company. Weeks old inventory is no help to anyone. read more

I am pretty picky when it comes to patterns and designs on my fabric. I have yet to find a design that looks designer enough for curtains and throw pillows in my home. But I have completed all sorts of other projects with fabric selections. Thier fleece collection is great by the way.The people working there are very helpful too. I asked a question to which she rolled her eyes, after a second clarifying question she proceeded to loudly exasperate, made a complete circle and said what?!?!? I just ordered two custom mattes for some artwork that was to be presented to two executives. What I got back looked like it was made by blindfolded children with knives on the ends of 5-foot poles. Neither matte fit the frame, and I'm talking off by at least a whole inch. The cuts were not straight and the two mattes were vastly different from one another. One was oversized so bad the art didn't even fit in it. I would expect better from someone free-handing the job. Whoever made these clearly has failed to grasp the basic concept of measurement. I wasted over $20 on two pieces that are complete garbage. Now I'm back at square one and in a huge hurry thanks to JoAnn's incredibly poor work. read more
