We spent 30 minutes discussing the job details and a price. We reached an agreement and set a date. At the time of the job the father David was curt and unwilling to walk the job with me. After 90 minutes it was apparent that they were leaving and without completing all the aspects of the $350 job bid. Dave said that the work they did was fair. $230 an hour for mowing, weeding and some hedge trimming!! I wanted to discuss what was covered in the bid but the son would not say anything while the angry Dave was speaking. I refused to pay unless the work was done. Dave immediately said give me 150 and we'll leave!! No one was happy.

We found every tree trimming service in a hundred mile radius and collected each company's quote…read morealong with a "low ball" quote from friend, and out of all of them, Carlos from Tri Valley Tree gave us the best quote. The communication felt a little unofficial to begin but I trusted it to get done and sure enough it did, and the men who took out our tree were wonderful and hardworking. It took them 5 days to take it all down and cut up the roots (due to a law in Ojai that requires electric chain saws and requires time to charge them half way through a work shift). Since we were not on a time crunch it worked fine for us. The guys did good work, but we had to ask them to cut the roots otherwise they were going to leave them. They did it all for $2100, which was a fantastic price! The estimate didn't change even though the tree took a while to take out and we added in the root grinding and a bit of the neighbors tree that was taken out by our fallen one. I would go back to Carlos for any and all handyman needs in the future. He runs a great business for great prices.
