A lovely venue. We took a busload of Gee's Bend community members to see the performance of Gee's Bend - the play. The production was well done. Well staged and well performed by the actors. The cast were excited to meet the actual quilters of Gee's Bend. They exchanged autographs and lots of photos were taken. We would enjoy the opportunity to see other JJP Productions in the future. Small and intimate playhouse perfect for a lovely matinee. read more

Went to see Avenue Q, so fun! Theater has quite a few stairs for those of us with bad knees, but worth it! We laughed so hard and am really glad we got the season tickets this year! read more

In 1947 a small group of Mobilians, intent on restoring the city's waning theater activity after the depression and war years, initiated the Joe Jefferson Players. Successful in their efforts, the Players were in possession of their own permanent playhouse by 1949 and by 1961 membership totaled over 1000. By 1967 the membership limit was raised to 2000, and continued popularity demanded the expansion of an already once-rebuilt playhouse in the same year. Despite the challenges of subsequent years: hurricanes, financial difficulties, and increasing competition from other sources of local live entertainment, the Joe Jefferson Players remain active to this day, having finished their fifty-ninth season at the time this guide was written. The Joe Jefferson Players took their name from prominent nineteenth-century actor Joseph Jefferson III (1829-1905), a man born into a family of notable actors and theater workers. Starting at the age of four, Joe devoted the next seventy-two years of his life to the theater, traveling around the world from London to New Zealand and performing a variety of roles, the most notable of which is undoubtedly his portrayal of "Rip Van Winkle." In 1893 he succeeded Edwin Booth as president of the Players Club, a national organization, making him the acknowledged head of American actors. Joe Jefferson died in 1905 in Palm Beach, Florida, and was buried in Sandwich, Massachusetts.

On a Thursday evening we were expecting a small crowd for a community performance. But boy were we surprised. It is a fairly large performance hall and almost a full house on a Thursday night. They gave a huge parking lot and adrop off location under cover. Lobby is beautiful, cheap concessions and nice bathrooms. The performance was exceptional with a mix of Holiday and religious songs and dance. So much fun.

We were lucky enough to purchase front row seats so we got a great view of the play, although I don't think there's a bad seat. Tickets were very reasonable at $20 each. The play runs until the end of June so there's still time to check out this entertaining play.

She graduated from The Studio years ago but she remains in contact and visits with Brandon often when she's home. I'm currently here and am beyond frustrated. It rained around 11 a.m., and apparently that means there is no pool service for the rest of the day. Guests are given only one small towel, which barely covers the lounge chair, and I was refused a second. Since there was no pool service, I attempted to grab a drink from one of the casino bars to bring back outside, only to be told my cover-up was not appropriate. Mind you, I was wearing a one-piece swimsuit and a modest cover-up that happened to be slightly short. I've seen far more revealing attire throughout the casino. I've been here for three days and my room has not been serviced once. I currently have no clean towels. Last night, my room key repeatedly malfunctioned, requiring multiple trips to the front desk before maintenance finally had to come let me into my room. The valet service disappeared years ago, but that's only one small piece of a much larger problem. There are often homeless individuals congregating outside the property. Even the non-smoking rooms smell like smoke. The hotel itself appears neglected--dust coats the glass shelving, light fixtures, and other surfaces throughout the property. A closer look reveals a level of dirt and lack of upkeep that is hard to ignore. While many employees have been pleasant, others seem completely uninterested in providing quality customer service and have noticeably poor attitudes. The pool area remains the hotel's biggest selling point, but even that feels dated and poorly maintained. Much of the property is overdue for a deep cleaning, pressure washing, and significant refurbishment. I used to genuinely love staying here, which makes this review disappointing to write. The Hard Rock was once one of Biloxi's standout properties. Today, I would strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere--particularly at the Beau Rivage, which continues to offer a much higher standard of service, cleanliness, and overall guest experience.
