Joel's roofing company has been working for almost a month now to put up a new roof and rain gutters, apparently because it took 2 weeks for "parts to come." Beyond this, his (Joel, not his workers) demeanor is unprofessional at best and borders on cruel at worst, including speaking very inappropriately about neighbors very loudly while they are home and can hear him! I would not recommend their services due to what appears to be inefficiency, unprofessionalism, and excessive noise. I am not sure what all the negative reviews are all about, except that they all seem old and maybe Joel's has tightened up their act. I had them do rain gutters at the front of our house about four years ago and he did not charge me for the estimate. The price was reasonable so I went with it. The gutters and spouts turned out beautiful and are still functioning as designed. About two years ago I realized my lack of gutters in back were causing water to seep under our hardwood floors so I had him install them there and again, reasonable price, no problems. I would suggest you call them for an estimate and If they treat you poorly, I stand corrected, but it certainly was not my experience. read more

Honestly, zero stars. My husband and I recently bought our first home and have been working with tons of wonderful and professional contractors in the area. This company is not one of them! I called just to have someone come do an estimate on our rain gutters and I literally didn't even make it through a phone call with this guy before I was appalled by his unprofessionalism. First of all, their website says free estimates but when he told me it would be 125 I agreed without hesitation - he interrupted me while I was trying to explain to him the specific issues we are having so he didn't have to waste any of his time when he got here. He actually laughed at my problems. Still, I agreed to have him come up. When he asked my address (which is literally three miles from downtown SB) he MORE than DOUBLED our estimate to 325 dollars. I can't speak to his work or anything but I couldn't imagine that working with a person like this would be a good experience. I will happily pay money for anyone else to come do the work! My suggestion is, just skip right over this company and call the next place, save yourself a few minutes! read more

I did not personally hire this company - nor ever would I - but I experienced one of their work vehicles nearly hit me in a parking lot (I moved to avoid contact with the vehicle). He was way too quickly for a parking lot, rushed around a corner, and did not seem to be at all mindful of foot traffic. When I got out of the way of his vehicle, he kept right on going and did not even stop to address the situation or apologize. I called Joel himself to communicate the issue to him, and didn't receive a call back. I'm 30 weeks pregnant. Had his employee hit me in a company car, this would have been a HUGE issue. Wouldn't suggest using this company. They appear to be very irresponsible and negligent. read more

I called today when it was raining because I saw that one of our gutter ends was leaking in several places. Dan answered and quoted me $235 just to come out and take a look! I was stunned. It is a small job. I told him up front. So not worth $235. I understand a $50 charge to come and look and repair but not $235. Sorry. Set up a time to have Joel's roofing inspect my roof but they were too busy to come that day and had to postpone - they did not tell me until I contacted them the day before. They were going to call me about another time, but again that didn't happen until I contacted them. We finally settled on another day but then they didn't show. I know we are expecting El Nino rains this year and roofers are very busy - but this is just unprofessional. read more

Just got off the phone with Joel from Joel's gutters. At first I was impressed that the phone was answered on a Saturday. Within seconds however, as I was explaining the the work that I needed done, I was cut off and asked if I could afford $600. Taken aback slightly, I politely responded that yes I can afford $600 but I'm not sure that the job would entail that much work. I was told to call another company and hung up on. Joel doesn't seem like a very pleasant individual and certainly not a good businessman. Unfortunately, must have enough work due to the circumstances of El Nino on the horizon that he feels entitled to be essentially dismissive and rude to a potential new client. Unbelievable and disappointing. Stay away from Joel's roofing and gutters if possible. read more

Joel's Roofing did quality work but we were very unhappy with how the contract was handled. Joel insisted on frequent progress payments, with assurances that we were still within the original proposed cost. By the time we realized we were going to be significantly over budget, it was too late to back out. Even if we assume the additional costs were justified (I am not a roofer, I don't know), we ended up paying way more than we had budgeted, without Joel ever acknowledging the escalating costs. Joel's got the material shipped in on Monday and began the demo of the old gutters the same day. The next day, they did the job. Good craftsmanship and responsibly dealt with some on-site challenges.
