Joe's is a casual spot that is laid back. The staff is friendly and down to earth. The restaurant is clean and there is ample seating, with good spacing between tables and booths. There is also an outside dining area on the patio at the entrance of the restaurant. I ordered the burger, which is char broiled and served on a ciabatta bun, with mayo, and cheddar cheese. The pan fried salmon was not available for dinner today. I had to go with the backup plan! Lol! I have dined here 2X for dinner and the food was delicious both times. Came here for lunch. Chose their soup deal which was a Mediterranean fish soup with mussels & garlic crostini. It was nothing like I had expected. The soup was bland and watery and I suppose all the ingredients were just run in the blender. I'm not sure if it had mussels or not. The garlic crostini ended up being a couple of white bread slices and a chunk of butter, nothing with garlic. I don't think I will return. It's a shame, since the atmosphere was nice and relaxing. read more

This place doesn't quite feel English, which is strange as it serves lots of local produce. It does breakfast, lunch and dinner. The good bits: - Home-made smoothies - Burgers - check out the lamb-burger for a treat - Home-made sauces - It's not just standard pub food - sometimes you can get duck. - The cocktails: £5.50 normally, or £3.50 from 5-7pm. My favourite: Joe public (lemon vodka, bubbly, cointreau and lime). It tastes just like cloudy lemonade and is very morish. 'Bond in Moscow' is pretty good too. Watch out, though: the price adds up! - Monthly jazz evenings (although stay clear if you don't like jazz!) - You can sit outside in summer and feel very continental. The bad bits: - The breakfast is quite expensive and probably not worth it. - It tries to do some foreign dishes, but gets a bit confused with things like 'French toast', which isn't French toast as we know it (eggy bread). - The atmosphere could be cosier. The food here was AMAZING!!! it was absolutely delicious! two of us had the vegan burger and wow... speechless. it was so realistic and moist it actually felt and tasted like real meat. hands down one of the best burger i've ever had. the fish and chips were delicious too, and the chunky chips were perfectly crispy and fluffy on the inside. really nice atmosphere, moody lighting and amazing service! the waiters were very helpful and attentive when we were struggling to take a photo with our chips! loved it. Decent environment, decent selection on the menu. I ordered the daily special, the 'vegetable curry' and when my order arrived I was really surprised that the vegetables were butternut squash and spinach. In addition to that, the rice was listless and tasted like it came from a box. When I asked if I could maybe order something else instead, I was flatly refused. It was such a lovely evening, warm, clear skies. I'd walked by earlier in the day on the way to M&S for food and it looked busy with folks enjoying themselves. Went back later for dinner and am glad we did. Nice selection of offerings, big to small plates. Ugh! Typical of the insipid, mediocre food that plagues this country. The burger should always be the safest choice because how much of an incompetent hack do you have to be to screw up a burger?! £9 for a bloody burger and the cheek to charge £3.50 extra for fries. The burger was flavorless, bland and dry with mundane toppings. The burger bun was untoasted and lacked a spread (barring a bizarre choice of mayo on the bottom half). The pickled gherkin that came with it looked embarrassed to be there. When the servers don't check in on you to ask how the food is, in this case it's obviously because they know the answer. Oh, and how crappy is it to exclude the mojitos from the Happy Hour cocktails list?! About as crappy as the need to wipe food crumbs and salt off your seat before sitting down. Joe's is as uninspiring as its name suggests. read more

One of my favorite places in summertown. The staff are very friendly and the interior is decorated with pictures and mementos of great British rock artists. The dishes offered are mostly hits. The crab and avocado starter is one I'd skip. First time I visited, I had the chicken green curry, which is excellent, but heavy. Most recently I had the veggie burger with a house made soy patty. Highly recommend Joe's for a night out with friends. read more

This place was alright. I ordered the chicken burger, and it wasn't that good. It wasn't really seasoned, so I didn't enjoy it too much. The onion rings I got with it were really good though, so I'd recommend getting them. The service was really good, which is why I am giving a higher rating. We didn't have a reservation when we went, and the last table available was outside. It started raining soon after we sat down, so they found a table for us to eat inside which I really appreciated. Visiting my son at Oxford for a week, found Joe's as a nice haven. Their breakfasts are very good. Had dinner there once. Highly recommend the three beef sliders. Very friendly staff. They have jazz nights, but I was not able to partake. read more

Joe's is a burger and brunch or breakfast cafe in Summertown. When it first opened a few years ago I liked the burgers, but hated the smokiness, so stopped going. Now all restaurants are smoke free, so I went back a few weeks ago and enjoyed Sunday brunch. All the classic breakfast/brunch dishes are there, and the coffee is pretty good too. I was surprised to find the ribs were one of the most tender and flavorful ribs I have ever had. Our waiter was quick and polite, and the food was out to us in a timely manner. They are conveniently located just on the Main Street in plain view and have great indoor and out door seating. Would recommend to anyone, especially if they want a good wine with their dinner. read more

Yelp, you have done it again. Joe's Cafe was just what we needed. I had a Moroccan Lamb burger and my wife a Pulled Pork burger. Both were delicious. Great atmosphere in cafe, loads of people sitting around us enjoying their evening and a reasonable price. Did I mention the service? Superb. read more

Terrible service! The food is average, they are slow on service and the staff are always rude and unhelpful. Do not make you feel welcome, especially when they're busy.
