Very popular neighbourhood pizza place. Book ahead if you want a guaranteed table. Now during COVID-19, I believe they do ask you to book ahead. Else, you can also order pick-up via their app. With the app, you just pay in-app, choose pick-up time and location (Summertown or Jericho), then just show them your confirmation number when you get there. Pizza is not bad. Each is thin and light enough that even a person with a light appetite can finish one whole by themself. Pasta dishes are more generously portioned. I found the margherita has way too much sauce and tomatoes, which make everything but the outer edge a soggy mess since the crust is super thin. With less sauce-heavy pizzas, however, the crust is more like a thin cracker. I prefer the prosciutto cotto e funghi. If you crave a more bread-y and robust crust, and perhaps more value for money, there are other places to try. Overall, good place for artisanal pizza. Staff was so-so. Maybe it was my bad luck, but when I visited, there were 4 waiters standing around, more two of who saw us walk up and wait by the "Wait to be Seated." Rather greet us and acknowledge us by telling us someone would be by to help us, they just each walked by and stared, then clustered around one another, including the one who would eventually come out to help us. Great place for Thin Crust Pizzas in Oxford. We started with the Fried Zucchini Sticks along with Prawn & Avocado Antipasti. For the main course we had Pollo e Spinaci, San Fernando and Margherita Pizzas. The food came out great and so was the service. read more

We tried the polenta chips, pizza, and pasta. The pizza had a nice thin crust and a came with a good amount of toppings. Something was missing for me whether that be a tiny bit more sauce or maybe just the sauce was lacking a bit of zing. Booking a reservation is highly recommended as they seemed to be quite busy and most people that came in had a booking. Overall good place with friendly service and reasonable prices. read more

This place is about a 20 minute walk from the center of Oxford but the food is truly worth it. It's not a crowded area and we felt surrounded by locals. Definitely get the garlic bread with cheese and fried calamari. The garlic bread with cheese was just oozy goodness and the calamari was super fresh. We then ordered a quattro formaggi pizza and 1/2 of the two mushroom options. Incredible choices. Unfortunately there was no room for dessert but it was nice to have the taste of pizza and garlic lingering in my mouth :) read more

Sometimes, I don't get what the folks on TripAdvisor are raving about when they talk about restaurants. Perhaps before deciding this place was a 'must go' I should have checked Yelp. What a rookie mistake for a fourth-year elite member. I must hang my head in shame...but first, here's the skinny on why Mamma Mia wasn't so fabulous after all. Mamma Mia has two locations. We hit the Summertown location as it was closer to us. Lovely neighborhood and they have their own area for parking - sweet! We were seated immediately. It wasn't extremely busy so there was no wait. We were given menus and our drink orders were promptly taken. Voila! As soon as we ordered our beverages, they arrived. Plus points for their very (very) fast service. We ordered a pizza dish and the penne with pesto dish. Easy, right? Both came ODDLY fast, to the point of us joking that perhaps they were someone elses orders gone awry... Sometimes, the simplest of things are the most complicated to get right. My pasta was DRY. Dry, ho-nay. To the point of having to ask for more pesto and a warm up. The dish came without some of the listed ingredients and they had two times to get it right. If your food is going to be served extremely fast, make sure you have it right. It tasted extremely bland. Not even crushed pepper, chili flakes or italian seasonings could help. SNORE. Absolutely awful. My husband ate his pizza but said it was nothing to write home about. We've had brilliant pizza the world over and were hoping this would be great too, but alas, it was lackluster. Not a place we'll be visiting again. Of course, the service was friendly and the place was spotlessly clean. Stereotypical 'Italian' look, down to the table cloth. Good family joint but not something I'd try again. read more

Booked a table for 9 people. It was confirmed. We arrived on time at 1.30pm and part of our table had been knowingly given away. They offered for 9 of us to squeeze onto the 6 person table. They then offered for us to wait for our table to become fully available (the people sat down had not even been given there food!). We had small children with us , and I was on a time limit - so we couldnt wait for there mistake to be rectified. We had booked this table to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Fortunately Portobello's next door were able to accommodate us (great food and service). This is really poor customer service and was not a mistake down to human error, they had attempted to get another table in when there clearly wasn't time or space just to make a few extra £££ - terrible way to treat people!!# This 1* review is purely based on the service we got (or didnt get in this case). This is a friendly neighbourhood restaurant. It is very popular with families and it is worth booking if you have particularly want to eat there. The service is efficient and friendly. They don't mind if you want to order starters as main courses for children, all the pasta can be served in half portions and of course they don't mind you sharing pizzas. Grown-ups without children seem to enjoy it as well but if you aren't a fan of other people's children it might be worth avoiding it on Friday in the early evening - especially if the schools are breaking up for the holidays. The same people own Portobellos just along the street so you could try their instead. When I was a grown-up without children we used to enjoy going here from the office for lunch - because the service is quick you can actually enjoy a pizza, a chat and a coffee and not be too far over the 1 hour you've been allotted for lunch. read more

Great Italian restaurant, fantastic pizzas, pasta and salad dishes and decent sized portions too. Service is good but slowed down after our main dishes. If you visit at lunch time, they offer a main course and a drink (including a glass of wine) for £7.95 which I think is great value for money. My all time FAVOURITE pizza joint! I mean, I may be biased because I have literally been brought up on this pizza, but it's darn tasty! I did in fact drag a friend for an impromptu lunch on Sunday and it did not disappoint. The staff are always on top form, super friendly and very prompt. So many tasty pizzas to pic from, some particularly great ones if you're a meat lover, I've heard the 'Mamma Mia', their signature pizza is delicious. As for the veggie options, the 'Vegetariana' is scrummy, or a fail-safe favourite Margherita! There is also a selection of pastas and salsa available, and we really, very nearly got defeated by the chocolate fudge cake - unless you're just a chocolate lover like me, I advise sharing, cause it ain't a small slice! I don't have to say much about this place, because everything that I've ever ordered from here is good. Pizza is excellent. Thin crunchy crust, tangy and tasty sauce and just the right amount of cheese. I wish more spots in the states made the pizza like here. The restaurant is cozy, comfortable and very clean. The drive to get here from my family's place is about 45 minutes, but, the food is worth it. if you are in Oxford, absolutely stop in here if you are in the mood for Italian food. read more

Can't say I have ever noticed the French CUisine on the menu. What they do have is a great deal of honest Italian dishes, served by friendly staff, who seem generally happy to see families. Good value (for Summertown at least) and has been doing so for a long time. Not surprisingly Pizzas are a particular highlight, but there are quite a few good alternatives. And as with many Italians, a good veggie selection too. If in Summertown with hungry kids, or just a hunger, recommended. read more
