The bridge tolls are currently removed on Sundays to encourage customers to visit businesses on Sanibel and Captiva Island. My motorcycle group road up there this past weekend. It was sad to see the shopping center that Joey's was a part of is now an empty lot. I don't know what the future will be for businesses like Joey's, but the island businesses that are still trying to make a go of it need our business to survive. Amazing selection of ice cream flavors. We ended up getting the Exhausted Parent which had a combination of alcohol and espresso. Why, don't mind if I do! Since we're in Southern Florida, I had to get Key Lime, right? But when I asked for that flavor, she asked me how I want it. They offer it in so many different ways! So I told her to give me what she would order for herself and she gave me "Key Lime Pie in a Cup" which was awesome!!!! The kids are so "Vanilla": one ordered Vanilla and the other Cotton Candy. Whatever we ordered, we all enjoyed our ice creams very much. The giant map where we get to put a sticker on where we came from was fun to see. We visited Joey's for a second time on our latest visit to Sanibel and it seems they've gotten even better! Lines were consistent but we always felt safe and socially distanced. Our party had a wide range of desserts including smoothies and ice cream, and everything tasted great. I especially loved the bourbon pecan flavor and thought it was also neat that they used edible pasta straws for their smoothies. Great dessert after dinner at one of the fine dining restaurants on the island. Has a very country and rustic charm to it. But you'll notice that a lot of that is very old. The restaurant itself could use an update. As it looks like it's just full of a ton of knickknacks. They have a map where people can put a pin for their hometown. Corkboard is completely destroyed from so many people putting in pins. Other areas of the restaurant we're kind of dusty. The outside is weather beaten and is not inviting to sit. We took out goodies and jumped in the car. But the ice cream and custard are good. Nice variety of standard flavors and unique ones. Kids and family enjoy. Thankfully, on Tarpon Bay Rd there is a shop in the Bailey's shopping center that does just that. I had the Calico which featured The Bubble Room chocolate cake and strawberries. My kids visited Florida on vacation this past week. We went to a lot of really cool places and ate a lot of great food and desserts. BUT THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING. We generally have a rule that we don't visit the same establishment while on vacation so we can try everything out but we went here 3 times and the kids wanted to go twice in one day but I had to put my foot down. The ice cream is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Delicious, reasonable portions, loaded with whatever goodness you order (cookie monster for example had so many delicious cookies in it), friendly and efficient service and cool seating area. Prices were reasonable for a tourist area. There are so many flavors to choose from it is very difficult - they have a fantastic selection. They make waffle sundaes too which were to die for (and they are served on a free frisbee). Honestly this was our favorite establishment our entire trip throughout Florida. This is a must stop!
