I found them at…read morethe time when I was just beginning to explore my writing, and what I found in Rose Writers was exactly what I needed - a supportive, fun, creative group of people I could feel comfortable enough with to truly pursue my writing. The prompts we write together every week are really provocative and encouraged me to go places I might not have gone on my own. As Desiree says, "Whatever you write today is what you're supposed to write!" It's such an amazing group led by a truly dedicated and passionate Desiree. Rose Writers was truly incredible for me because during the 6 weeks of meeting, I started writing my current manuscript. I am still working on it and it has expanded in form since then (Spring 2013). I cannot thank Rose Writers enough! They are such a wonderful part of the writing community in Long Beach! And even if you don't consider yourself a writer, you will feel welcome here because the motto at Rose Writers is "a writer is someone who writes." Also, I am a poet and most people are fiction writers, but it doesn't matter because everyone is welcome to write what they want to write. In fact, I think it even helped me expand on my own style. Rhoda and Frankie kick my butt on Tuesdays and I always look forward to belly dancing with Brandy! In my first 3 months I lost 10 pounds just going 2-3 days a week! This membership is much more affordable than others I've tried and they're the only ones I tried where you can take Zumba and mixxedfit classes in an air conditioned studio! I'm not trying to pass out in this Texas heat! I love that you can view and sign up for classes online so I can plan out my week. Now they just need an adult dance team or showcase!
