John is a very good marriage counselor to my husband and me. My husband and I both enjoy going to him. John talks to us in a way that is light and comfortable. John has managed to help us work through our marital issues while addressing individual biases/coping mechanisms/insecurities. John's approach is light and easygoing and non-threatening. He is good at making comparisons and analogies to help get a point across. John's approach has been very effective, and we will continue to go to him to assist us with difficult topics/conversations and to help my husband and I communicate better with each other. read more

I never saw myself as wanting to talk to anyone about my problems but i looked up places near me after my gf said it helped her and some of my youtubers i follow said they see a counselor. John has been helpful for coaching and discussing career goals to help with future plans after career transitioning and learning how to better prioritize my time. The practical advice was a little bit like counseling, a little bit business consulting, a little bit therapy. The book recommendations also helped and checking in to talk about my progress made me motivated to continue to stay the course. He let me decide if I want to go for just a few sessions or to go long term. I opted for short term but may go back for a check in later on. I was searching for a life coach and looking for support and advice for my next steps in life. The timing worked out where he helped me work on my goals right at a time when I had to make some major life decisions. Some counselors spend the whole time listening, but John also gave me direct advice when I needed it. The office is within walking distance to the Caltech campus and there is easy parking. I live in Pasadena so it was like a 5 min walk from my condo. He does short-term and long-term counseling or whatever it is you need. I was referred to John through my doctor and have got good results from him. My issues with anxiety have subsided and I got some good advice about my career. I was feeling burnt out from work and felt like I couldn't fit enough activities into a day. I asked John for some help. I was a little wary of these reviews but I went ahead and made the appointment after feeling low in my life. Low grade blues that did not improve with working out or with time waiting it out or with trying to work harder at my job. John helped me with goal setting and with prioritizing the important things in my life like relationships and working with focusing on the end goal. This was my first time in counseling and I honestly had low expectations. Maybe I have watched too many episodes of In Treatment. My girlfriend pushed me to go and threatened to call and set up an appointment if I didn't. I gave it a try and I must say I was a little surprised that it was not bad. I looked for something specific like who understood my family problems, and who knew about pressures like from culture and friends and pressure from my work. In the chaos my boyfriend referred me here and I talked about the hard stuff spilling out everything. The coach took my problems one-by-one and gave me books to read also.
