This review applies specifically to TMS services. I don't recommend. The first session he spent all of it trying to check insurance and get authoritarian from my insurance as it would've covered it fully. Gave no information about the treatment, didn't explain the side effects, the benefits, really nothing about the procedure or process. It's told as if it's a 100% successful rate because as he kept mentioning he's been doing this for 15 years...aside from that it just seems like a money hungry situation rather than real mental health treatment . No real information about anything he's providing . I want someone who's gonna have my best interest for my mental health and I don't believe he did. Good luck to others read more

I just completed my 36 sessions of TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) to help with my mild-moderate situational depression and I am SO grateful to Dr. Dermenjian and his assistant, Lucia! Ive started loving music again, finding excitement and joy in the little things like I used to, feel empowered/capable/strong and hopeful for good things to come. I have more energy and joy when I am with my toddler, have connected again more deeply with friends and family, enjoying peaceful moments to myself and figuring out self-love/self-care again. I found Dr. Dermenjian a few months ago (thru Neurostar, I wanted to find a Dr/office that has done TMS for a while and takes my insurance), as I have been seeking to navigate some complicated life circumstances, and wanted to improve how I feel once and for all. I have struggled with chronic pain and immense situational depression for years. Since the first day I spoke with him, I immediately felt at ease with his kindness, professionalism, intelligence and incredibly calm voice and demeanor. I feel a SIGNIFICANT improvement, as I have completed 36 seventeen-minute sessions of TMS. The tapping itself was not what I would call comfortable, but was NOTHING in order for me to start feeling like myself again! I am starting to feel better than I have felt mentally in years, and truly feel that the sky is the limit for me (like I did years ago). I am so blessed to have Dr. Dermenjian to keep up with, as needed, in order to create calm, health and freedom within my own nervous system again. I truly appreciated when he would check in on me and make himself available whenever I needed to talk. His kindness and empathy, along with his MANY diplomas/accolades, will always be appreciated and remembered by me. I would also like to focus attention on his wonderful assistant, Lucia, who was there for me and setup every session! My part-time work schedule posed some challenges, but she so kindly accommodated my schedule, so we could complete the 6 weeks without interruption and so I wouldn't have to take off work (I love what I do and couldn't financially afford to take off work). I truly valued her super sweet personality and kindness every time I would see her. She is applying for medical school and would be an incredible asset to the medical field! Thank you again to Dr. Dermenjian and Lucia, for their incredible efforts to bring me back to *feeling* and *loving* my life again. My original psychiatrist died, so I called here because the listing with my insurance said "ADHD" was one of the specialties. The receptionist said that yay, the doctor WAS accepting new patients! But when I started doing a mini-intake interview and mentioned ADHD as one of several conditions I need treatment for (I didn't request any medications or treatments), she suddenly said "Actually I'm sorry, but the doctor is not accepting ADHD patients. He's not prescribing those medications." I asked if he would see me for my other conditions, but she said no. So, the first wrong thing here is that he clearly lists "ADHD" as one of his specialties if you look at his listing under your health insurance plans. It's kind of a jerky thing to do, then, to refuse treatment to someone with ADHD, right? The second thing wrong here is that I have a lot of other co-morbid conditions. Should having ADHD mean that the doctor can't treat me for other stuff, such as depression or phobias? And third of all, not all ADHD people take "those" medications. I don't actually think there's anything wrong with being prescribed "those" medications, but even so, why not accept ADHD patients as long as they agree that they will seek out alternative treatments, if that's a deal-breaker for you? Fourth of all, dude, I'm sorry if you have seen some drug-addict patients in the past that annoyed you, but that doesn't change the fact that ADHD is a real thing, and for many of us, it's more debilitating than what many junkies go through. And yes, it's very true that some ADHD drugs are addictive, or can be harmful if taken incorrectly. It's also true that they can work really well for the people who need them, and that the vast majority of ADHD experts see them as being a crucial first step in helping combat the symptoms of ADHD for many people. It's also true that not all the ADHD medications are things like Adderal or Ritalin--there are also serotonin boosting medications that can help some ADHD patients, or long-term drugs such as Vyvanse that have no addictive properties. Most ADHD patients have a hard enough time trying to make a go of it, medications or no, along with counseling, therapy, and a life of hard work. I've been trying to get myself to even get on the phone and call psychiatrists ever since mine died, and one of the difficulties is the shade thrown on people like me by people like you... you know, the supposed protectors of emotional wellness. I knew what I was getting into with a psychiatrist - maybe 5 minutes of conversation and an inconvenience to get a prescription refilled that I've been on for years. Dr. Deirmenjian was okay at first, though it is laughable he calls himself an LGBT affirming provider as he made absolutely no effort to change my name in his records when I mentioned it to him. But this is the least of my problems. We upped the dosage of my medication at one point. I had side effects, so at my next appointment I asked to go back down. He agreed, and told me he would submit the new prescription to ExpressScripts per my insurance. I told him I did not need any refills on my other prescription. Much to my surprise, no prescription comes in the mail and ExpressScripts has heard nothing from Dr. Deirmenjian. I run out of meds and am having difficulty with day to day tasks when I call the office. They claim they submitted the prescription a week ago, call me in a backup at my local pharmacy, and are extremely rude about the inconvenience and life interruption they've caused. When I get the prescription from ExpressScripts, not only did I get the prescription I didn't need refilled (and had to pay for it) but I also got the incorrect too-high dosage. Luckily, I can break these pills in half. This would be frustrating if it happened once...but it happened again the next time I went to his office. Exact same process. So not only is his office incapable of filling a prescription correctly or when they say they're going to do it, but they are also prescribing me more of a controlled substance I've discussed twice that I don't need. I found a new psychiatrist but needed to schedule one last appointment. I told them why it would be my last appointment and they got my pharmacy information presumably to make some effort so that I didn't run out of the meds that allow me to drive. I get a call back 10 minutes later that they will not fill the prescription and are dropping me from the practice. I find it negligent at best that Dr. Diermenjian had given me more of a controlled substance than I need. I find it hilarious that he's so afraid of any level of accountability that he dropped me when I needed one last refill. If you're looking for a fragile ego that can't handle being wrong, this is your doctor. read more

Dr. Deirmenjian is honestly the best psychiatrist I have ever had in my life! He is extremely kind and you can tell that he truly cares about his patients. He takes his time to listen to you and will not give up on you either. I have crippling anxiety that makes it really hard for me to even leave the house. I had developed such severe anxiety and depression that I could no longer work or hardly take care of myself. I shook so bad people would look at me. I had to drink protein drinks because my throat would close up and I couldn't swallow hard food. I was terrified, terrified beyond words and I didn't know what was wrong with me. I understand doctors must be careful with what they prescribed. I was in hell. Now I know that this doctor could have prescribed me something to ease my symptoms and give my body a break. I was in such pain all the time. I just didn't know any better but I eventually moved on. For the love of God, why couldn't he have given me a limited amount. I have worked with many area psychiatrists and can honestly say that Dr. D is one of the only MD's that I would recommend to a friend or family member. Based on the comments of others, I think its important to note that most private practice psychiatrists just do "medication management" and you have to go elsewhere for therapy. I started seeing Dr. D in 2006. This was after I had been through major therapy for bipolar and was stable. I had already had my meds prescribed by another psych in Orange County, but she moved even further down south, so I needed to go to someone local. My therapist had a list of names adn Dr. D. was one of them. I got in right away and have seen him ever since. What to expect. Wait time 5 - 20 minutes depending on the time of day Appt. time: 2- 5 minutes. He has never been unkind to me, but he never is in the mood to have a long conversation and I wonder if he even knows how to do "talk-therapy." Seriously, that's it. Because I was stable for so long, I guess I really didn't mind, It saved me time and I seemed to be getting what I needed. However, I had a MAJOR lapse in 2012 (manic for like the whole year), depressed for most of 2013, and he was of no help at all. I finally asked if I could have a referral to a local therapist (my previous one moved out of state). I was in such a state that I actually did an online visit to a therapist in the middle of the night (live chat) and she was able to get me straight for a while. If you want quick meds, visit Dr. D. If you are actually in crisis, DON'T. My old psychiatrist gave me at least a 30 minute appintment which supplemented my regular therapy. I guess I just need to be more specific with my questions when looking for a new doctor. Why do I still go to Dr. D? I really don't know. I guess I just don't want to spend the energy looking for a new doctor. He has done nothing for me, but write teh same prescription that I came with from my prevoius psychiatrist. Today (Thursday) I called for an appointment. He is out of town until Monday. I asked if he had a colleague that I could visit since he is not available. The secretary reported that since the trip was so short, he didn't arrange that. Thusday - Monday is not "short" for someone with a mental illness. Hopefully my pharm will supplement me with a few pills to get throught the weekend, but that's not a sure thing. Part of it is my fault for not calling earlier, but seroiously, he should have a sub to take his patients in the event of an emergency. read more

I called to schedule an appointment and she proceeded to ask 100 questions before telling me that they are booked through OCTOBER. I called back to ask for her name of the girl who had just been so rude to me and I was hung up on. I called back and got the nurse who was equally as rude. This is probably the worst experience i have ever with any type of Dr. Mainly it is the receptionist, who full out lies. and is just a nasty person, uncompable of compassion. I could understand why after my car being stolen, with meds in it, it could seem suspecious. but i have a file from police, with items in car, which included anviety medication, since i have an anxiety disorder. And she would not even let me come to Dr. Office to explain complicated situation No compassion here. The Dr. undestood the problems i have had with breast cancer, a home break in, my new car being totalled, etc. . and he seemed to be understanding. when i was going through a crisis receptionist told me to go pound sand, and would not allow me to speak to Dr. i ended up in hospital. all i ask was an opportunity today to explain why a script ( written 2 weeks ago, but not taken to pharmacy until today, because i had meds, anxiety meds in med bag in trunck) all i wanted was a few min. to go into office to explain, it is complicated. but she would not even listen. IF U WANT A COMPASSIONATE DR DO NOT GO HERE, again mainly receptionust who is a monster. if u need mental health help, it doesnt help dealing with people like this, plan mean. its just that i was not even allowed to explain complicated situation, and was treated like a drug addict. if i could give negitive star i would, i was the victim here, at least allow me to explain, instead of full out lying, and refusing to let me bring in police records and explain situation in person. i HIGHLY recomndu do not go to this office, ( run, dont walk) even if u have crappy insurance like health net, and need to wait a little longer for a decent, human, office. wait for professional and kind help read more

Out of all physicians, psychiatrists are supposed to be the most caring. But Dr. Deirmenjian is the least caring psychiatrist ever. He avoids making eyecontact, he gets angey if a patient is late to their appointment, and he is always, always more than happy to send a patient to another psychiatrist, as opposed to trying to work with them to improve their mental/psychological health. I of course can only speak of my own experience... I've been a patient of Dr. D's for going on 9 years. I don't expect him to listen to every problem going on in my life; that's what my therapist is for. I started out seeing him twice monthly. After correct diagnoses, the right balance of meds, taking better care of myself, and therapy, I now see him every 3-4 months. Even after several months, he's always warm to me upon visits, asks about my daughter, my job, and my overall stability. For a period of time I didn't have health insurance several years ago, he worked with me so that I could still afford to receive treatment. read more

I've been seeing Dr. D for a while now but the appointments are never longer than 5 minutes. He doesn't want to do any paperwork for you and he doesn't suggest any lab work to see where you stand with some of the meds he prescribes. I haven't changed drs because I dont really have the time. Now that my job has been harrassing me, I've relapsed and need a new dr ASAP!! I will make one last appointment to get a referral to another dr. If he doesn't give it to me, I will call the insurance company and have them find me one. read more

Dr. Diermenjian does not care about you, your well being, your privacy or your safety. He only cares about one thing. Getting paid. Was a patient for years, but no more. The other reviews are right; his office assistant is the rudest, most disrespectful person I've ever encountered in a professional setting, and I agree, she has no compassion for people at all. I don't understand why she works for a psychiatrist with her people skills or lack thereof. He screamed at me in the waiting room about how "he's not running a charity" when I surprised to learn that day that he recently became out of network with my insurrance and wanted hundreds of dollars instead of the co-pay I'd been paying for years. I asked if we could speak privately and he shouted at me, called me by my name and refused unless I paid first. Then some rant about how he's going to have to close his BH office because insurrance companies don't pay. I was in tears, I had come to him in crisis and he ultimately turned m away after being my doctor for years. After this I was hospitalized because it turned out the medication I was on was causing me daily seizures. I wrote to the California medical board as he clearly violated HIPPA laws, they did nothing. More ppl need to speak up about their experiences with him. He should not be allowed to practice medicine and be having his own personal breakdowns in public on his patients. read more

Dr. Deirmenjiian is a great down to earth mental health professional. He is vested in my well-being, is always available, refills scripts as needed, listens to side effects and offers alternatives to scripts. He always asks about my family's well being and my progress at school. I can tell him anything and he genuinely cares about getting me to a point where I won't need his services! Very knowledgable. Prescribes cost savings generics and offers discount cards for new brand name scripts. The staff is awesome.....low turnover rate....friendly.....and know your face and your name. read more

I saw Dr. Deirmenjian for quite a few years. My depression and anxiety was continuously worsening and my life was becoming more and more difficult to endure. He had me on anti-anxiety rx that I became addicted to and told him that I had to come off of it. He put me on another and the same thing. I was also rx'd anti-depressants and he gladly offered other powerful mood stabilizers with uppers, more downers and heavy duty sleep sedatives. I thought this was the only way I could live my life. I was never informed that I needed to have my vitals and organs checked. Every few months he wanted to up my doses on EVERYTHING! His office reminded me of a pharmacy in Tijuana. People came and left holding new rx scripts and bags of samples.I came to realize that I needed professional help to undo what has been done for all those years. The detox was pure agony and I came to find out that my organs had taken a severe beating and will never work the same again.Now I am being treated with one small dose of antidepressant and my life is manageable, livable and most of all, enjoyable. Who knew I didn't need to be sedated like an elephant to get through the day.I highly suggest you go somewhere else. Go to a Dr. who truly cares about you, your well being, quality of life and not the kickbacks they get from the rx companies. read more

Unfortunately, due to my medical condition, I was unable to make my appointment. I called to cancel and reschedule, yet never received a call back. I followed-up with a call today and was told that it is their policy that if new patients cancel, they do not reschedule... EVER. No exceptions. I have never heard of such a policy. This is a psychiatrist that is supposed to be in the business of helping people. Not everything is black and white, as he of all people should know. One strike and you're out is pretty harsh for this business - I feel like I've been sentenced to death row. I have to say that although this is the most obsurd thing I have heard in a while, I am thankful I canceled and they have this policy, as it says a lot about this doctor's character and saved me from putting my well being in this man's hands. Dr. Deirmenjian is all about money. He doesn't seem to care about his patients. Every appointment I had with him was rushed in and out of his office in 2-3 minutes. Once I had a question for him about my medication, he opened his office door before I could addressed the problem. Dr. D. answered my question by the copy machine in the waiting area. He will basically give you any meds you asked for. He has no interests in evaluating whats best for his patients. But, on a good note, he is flexable when comes to scheduling an appointment. My old doctor in Long Beach retired at the age of 82 and I was left without a doctor as he did not refer any patients. I found Dr. Deirmenjian online and called to see if he accepted new patients, which he did. I was really nervous as I suffer from bi polar disease and finally found the right meds and felt comfortable with my old doctor, but I developed an even better relationship with Dr. D and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs a new doctor. He listens to what I have to say, always asking me if my meds are working and how I am feeling, and, also is very open when I ask about new meds that may help me manage my illness. I see him in his Beverly Hills office, but he also has an office in Long Beach. read more

I have been seeing Dr. D for medication checks/adjustments for more than 8 years now. He has served me well in both good times and bad. I find him to be honest, caring, and professional. If you are looking for someone to talk to for long periods of time about your feelings and issues, he's not the guy. But if you want someone to manage your medications he will do a wonderful job. I agree that he is efficient and no-nonsense. His waiting room is usually packed. Sometimes the wait is a little longer than other times but generally he spends between 5-7 minutes with each patient so the wait isn't too bad. I see Dr. D every 3 months to touch base. It works well for me. The office staff is always professional and courteous. They call me in advance of my appointments to remind me. No complaints here. read more

Horrible experience with the secretary Colleen. She wouldn't give me an appointment with Dr. Deirmenjian! I tried on two separate occasions. She said they didn't accept my insurance and this was after my insurance company gave me their number as a covered partner. About two weeks later I called my insurance and told them what happened. My insurance called Dr. Deirmenjian's office and told me they do accept my insurance. So I call back to schedule an appointment and this time Colleen says, Dr. Deirmenjian is no longer accepting new clients. WTF! read more

edited 10/2 - it's interesting that the negative reviews that were posted before mine are no longer here....and now there are tons of positive reviews. i wonder if it's because i told his assistants that i've posted negative reviews about him everywhere i could. hmmm...curious. btw - my therapist was shocked...floored - by what he said to me the last time we spoke. see below... i saw the dr. for about 6-7 yrs. since i was desperate, i accepted any help i could get and trusted him - i mistakenly put him on a pedestal. granted, he was always right on with my medication. although i thought it strange that i never spent more than a couple of minutes with him. he rushed me through. he didn't seem interested in hearing about what i was dealing with in therapy etc. I thought it was important to inform your shrink about that stuff!! my few minutes with him never involved any sort of discussion about my specific mental status...just about how my meds were working. after moving across country, he was "kind" enough to continue having phone appts. with me and would refill my prescriptions - which i've recently heard is illegal?? i was in major crisis for a long time...he did tell me i had to eventually find a dr. in my new city...although i expressed my fear of change and he agreed to continue to "help" me (i paid a good sum of money for a monthly 2 min. phone call). he never set a time limit on this. i was recently in crisis mode - contacted him and i was floored by what he said to me. he yelled at me. told me that i had to get a dr...that he would never help me again and that i should never contact him again. he just said to go to the hospital. he was incredibly rude to my husband who was trying to help me. the bottom line is that he must only be in it for the money - perhaps he's become jaded over the years and it's no longer a passion to him? who knows. i miss the days when docs actually truly cared. luckily my awesome primary care physician jumped in and rescued me. perhaps she's one of the few sincere docs out there! i've recently requested that all of my records be sent to me...was told i'd get a call back. two weeks passed and no call. i spoke with his other assistant today and he said he would take care of it. i guess we'll see. he seems to be the better of the two assistants. i say that based on one major, terrible experience that i had. i can't help but mention this. i scheduled an emergency appointment for my aunt to see him. she was suicidal. she was the one that raised hell with my insurance co. to get me to see one of the "best" docs in my area. i called to confirm the appointment and they scheduled her visit for the wrong office so we had to reschedule! i knew my aunt would take her life at any moment. although she desperately wanted to see him. in the early morning hours before her appointment, she took her life. i'm sure she had made her decision...but then again, she had to wait another week before the second attempt at scheduling an appointment. i asked the assistant how she would feel if the shoe was on the other foot and she said terrible. um, no sh*t. i do not suggest seeing this doc at all. read more

Dr. Diermenjian may initially come across as a bit rushed or distant, but, after having worked with him for over a year, I can testify to his capability and compassion and would readily recommend him to others. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to meet with Dr. D and he will give you as much time as you need IF you *really* need it (e.g. are having a major life crisis related to your condition, vs. just looking to vent about problems or make small talk). Dr. D is definitely not going to pamper and coddle you if you're doing fine and are looking to take advantage of a pill-dispensing physician, or are hoping for someone to listen to you recount distant childhood memories; however, he will recommend you to a therapist/psychiatrist for that. (He makes it very clear he's there to help sort out the biological/hormonal/chemical side of things, to get you to a point where you're stable and beginning to thrive--not to help you emotionally "break through" old issues or interpret your dreams). As long as you understand and are good on that score though, I think you will find Dr. D to be extremely caring, capable, and accessible--he even provided me with his cell phone when I was really struggling and encouraged me to call him (free of cost) should I encounter a serious situation--and he backed this up with action! Also, his longterm reception staff are warm and helpful, ready to accommodate with any last-minute schedule changes. If you live near the downtown LB area and in need of psychological consultation relating to medical diagnoses/medication management, he is an excellent physician to try! read more
