Psychiatric medicine gone awry. Earlier this year one of my family members had to receive care from a physician in psychiatric medicine. I as a case manager did my due diligence and informed case management and also tried to reach out to the physician. To my horror the physician treated me like a dog. He yelled and was belligerently rude and condescending. It is my opinion that many psychiatrists do their craft for money and treat their patients like dogs. So sad. He yelled arrogantly that you're just a nurse, you don't know anything and you've seen who I worked with and they know me. So what Hames Pratty! People don't care how much you know till they know how much you care. Additionally he never provided a smooth transition to myself, the patient or any of the practitioners. I saw Dr. Pratty many years ago, when a family therapist referred him. This therapist had told my mother that she couldn't help me, and that I needed "more help" AKA medication (my mom's words so take this with a grain of salt). At the time, I was an angry, depressed teen in high school. I'm leaving this review now, much over a decade later, because my mother just asked me: "What did that psychiatrist say to you in that one session? Everything changed after that." Honestly? Dr. Pratty just talked to me like I was a young adult; he listened and replied with a frankness that defused my defenses. In his office, in just minutes, we somehow aired out my preconceived notions about what made me a "bad girl." He made me feel... normal. Dr James Pratty has been my 14 year old daughter's Psychiatrist at the psych hospital for about two years on and off he has provided her with medication treatment and has shown empathy towards my daughter and our family. He introduced us to a list of lawyers who specialize in placement of Residential treatment centers out of state as well. Most of our teens with mental health crisis need RTC help out of state because here in CA they dont have proper RTC treatment. He knows a lot of Lawyers that specialize in Residential treatment centers who can help your teen get accepted into their treatment. Without a lawyer, it is very difficult to get your teen into a proper Residential treatment center. I advise all the parents to reach out to Dr Pratty to get the lawyer contact information. My daughter was accepted right after I hired Andrea Tytell. Our teens need structure, predictability motivation and much more to be able to overcome their life challenges and traumaus. Outright abusive. Dr Pratty is unproffesional at best. I have met shady doctors, Ive never met a doctor so blatantly hateful and indifferent about his patients? His priority seems to be his personal gain over the wellness of a patient. My second time meeting him, he raised his voice at me when I first met him for sitting in seiza. Im asian. He aggresively told me to stop, and wouldnt move on until I stopped. He told me to simply stop being disabled/needing a wheelchair, and both verbally and on paper mocked the way I looked. He was shaking and unfocused everytime I spoke with him, often he spoke first when engaging with me, leading with defensiveness and belittling. Im looking into my legal options, the experience that heavily involved Dr.Pratty has traumatized me out of being able to see any other medical proffesionals. I have a health condition that I cannot treat, because Im thrown into a panic attack at the reminder of my experience. On that note- After meeting Pratty, Ive begun having panic attacks, something I had mostly infrequent experience with before. I have them multiple times a week. My team is looking into how much of a case I have against Dr.Pratty, if this review is deleted without good reason, I will repost it. This man should not be a doctor, he should be a patient. Dr. Pratty is a horrible psychiatrist and human who should lose his license. He should not be treating children. My sibling was admitted to College Hospital with him as their psychiatrist, and he immediately put them on a cornucopia of medications BEFORE EVER SEEING THEIR MEDICAL RECORDS. They could've had a medical condition that was wildly contraindicated with the medications he prescribed, and in fact they were on medications that had horrible interactions with some of the medications he prescribed. He insisted that they were bipolar, and prescribed them antipsychotics, despite the fact that they have NEVER displayed any symptoms or signs of bipolar disorder and no psychiatrist has ever even suggested it before. They were initially placed on a three-day hold at the hospital, but it was quickly extended to fourteen more days, which I am certain Dr. Pratty had a hand in. My mother called Dr. Pratty with questions regarding the medication he was prescribing my sibling, and he was extremely condescending to her. He dodged her questions and patronized her, and when she mentioned that her sister was a psychiatrist and she had consulted with her, he almost immediately hung up without answering her concerns. It has been over a week now and he has yet to call her back. Do NOT put your child in Dr. Pratty's care. He should not be allowed to practice medicine AT ALL. read more

I've been struggling with anxiety for a long long time, recently in December my anxiety came back with a wrath. I tried everything including CBD oils but even with everything I still ended up having to go to urgent care for scans and endless test almost on a bi-weekly basis. I spoke with a friend who also suffers from anxiety asked him if he knew a good doctor that he could recommend for anxiety because I was struggling so badly, he told me he had a great doctor, Dr. James Pratty. I immediately called and made the earliest appointment possible, I met with Dr. James Pratty he went over my history, he was thorough, worked through some medications and I am happy to say I'm at this moment finally feeling normal, I'm finally living a normal life again, I can go outside to the store without sitting in the car wanting to go in only to go back home, I'm not terrified at every moment, I'm sleeping again I'm not just laying in bed trying to fall asleep for hours with my chest pounding. It feels like I'm finally a normal person again and that's all I wanted to live and normal day to day life, not having to live in fear. Our family had a horrible experience with this doctor and the facility he works at college hospital Cerritos. we had an adolescent stay for 6 horrible days at this facility when they told us he was only being placed on 72 hour hold. They refused to release him and would not tell us why. The doctor would not talk to us and explain anything. our adolescent was already calm, stable and lucid as witnessed by the nursing staff. But nirsing staff did not speak to us about his treatment stating only this doctor could tell us but he would not speak to us. We sat at the facility for 2 days in the lobby to try to get someone to speak to us and explain why they were keeping him. we contacted the insurance company and tried everything we could The social worker would not tell us anything either. She didn't return our calls or meet with us once during those 6 days. This was such a nightmare for our family. I hope this place gets shut down. and this doctors looses his job. nobody should go through what we went through. read more

My anxiety was getting severe that I had panic attacks every week and my blood pressure usually went up high to 150/103 two years ago. Then Dr Pratty prescribed for me the anxiety medication Ativan .5mg twice a day and my panic attacks have been gone 99 percent. I just called this place to make an appointment for my father. The receptionist, Yessenia, was very rude. She not only refused service, but hung up on me. I'm shocked she denied service to my father for a conversation WE had. The main issue WE were having was the fact that she would not let me schedule an appointment for him. Now she is making him suffer for OUR conversation. That isn't professional. On top of that I asked to speak to the doctor or her supervisor about her behavior and she said she already spoke to the doctor and team for me. How unethical is that. To deny the right to speak to management.... I am changing the referral for my father ASAP. I do not want my father to come to a place like this. If this is how they treat a person trying to make an appointment I can't even imagine how they would treat a patient.
