I retained John Tatone a little over a year ago to assist with visitation for my mom due to my sister having guardianship. After numerous court dates and almost $10K in unnecessary legal fees, I am became extremely dissatisfied with his ability to represent me. He continuously lied under oath. I started to become suspicious regarding what I was being told by John Tatone, therefore, I reached out to another attorney. She told me that John Tatone mislead and misinformed me regarding the guidelines of a conservator. After finding this out, I visited Tatone and asked him why was he untruthful. I paid my remaining balance and immediately asked him to file to withdraw as my attorney. After 3 phone calls, 2 emails and multiple visits from my husband to his office, he finally submitted the petition to withdraw (2 weeks later). I caution EVERYONE... Never in my life have I met a more condescending person, or one with such little regard for ethics. When my dad passed away after a battle with cancer, we met with Mr. Tatone and hired him based on a positive first meeting where he promised a smooth process and a low, one-time retainer. Over the following 18 months, he has charged us thousands of dollars more. A large part of that is his refusal to answer basic questions via email, and then in turn billing for each email he had to read and respond to as time and time again we tried to seek very simple answers he refused to answer off the bat. He has also been extremely disrespectful to me and my grieving family. He has called me names and on countless occasions accused my mother of negligence. He showed no compassion as during our time as clients, our lives all were flipped upside down. For someone who is a probate attorney, he seemed shocked and even flippant when we tried to explain to him that we are all moving, starting new jobs and uprooting our lives because our family's provider died and that it was sometimes difficult to do the many, many tasks required in this process. He implied many times that our situation was unique in this regard, which I find very hard to believe. Lastly, this man is a liar who attempted to manipulate us many times. He promised that after billing us thousands of dollars over the retainer, that he would bill no more. Then when he did, I had him provide notice in writing that we would place a spending cap on expenses related to closing the estate. He said anything over the cap, he would eat the cost. THEN he had the nerve to ask us for a check to cover court fees when up until that point, he had always covered the court fees and billed us for them later. Do not hire this man. He is a snake and has made our lives a living hell. read more
