During the time John Wurts, a Certified Tax Preparer, was doing my personal taxes, plus estate tax returns that I was in charge of, he asked to borrow money. At the time, I felt that he was an honest professional (not a CPA), I said ok. It was to be short-term less than 90 days. I had no reason to think he would not repay all the funds plus the interested he set. Naively, I only asked that he put it in writing, which he did on his letterhead, but no other formal documentation to secure the 6 figure loan. Things happened, time passed and repayment was pushed out into years vs months. He repaid a portion of the loan but then stopped. John told me his daughter had cancer, things were very bad and he was not in a position to do anything more, at that moment. I agreed to work with him till things turned around. I did not hassle, threaten or pressure him in any way for the money. Certainly, John would do the right thing. When I did not hear from him, I contacted him. Since that time I have been in shock. John flipped the facts on the amount and terms. He has refused to sit down and make any arrangements on a final amount and payments. John asks for records that have repeatedly been given and continues to delay providing his own records so we can come to a meeting of the minds. John cancels meeting after meeting and now bluntly shouted at me to, "Stop calling me" and hung up. Very unprofessional. So, a warning to anyone, who does or intends to do, business with John Wurts. You hire him to save you money or prepare taxes, not con you out of money, as an unsecured "loan" and then default on its repayment. Two objectiives: stand up for what is rightfully mine and share the story to prevent it happening to you. A client becomes a target. read more

If I had to sum it up in one word, I would say my experience with John Wurts was AMAZING!! John Wurts demonstrated so much knowledge while doing my taxes. I had such a difficult and challenging return and John had so much patience and took his time reviewing each and every document with a fine tooth comb to ensure he was capturing every deduction possible. John is knowledgeable and knows his stuff but if you were to get a letter from the IRS which needs his attention, he does not return calls...actually that is not true. He did return my calls 4 weeks later after I had to personally deal with the agency myself to get it straightened out.
