Johnny's place is friendly, has a tasty buffet and is reasonably priced. We had the buffet, and the breading on the shrimp and catfish was great. Almost a sweet taste to it. Nothing like I expected, and I usually don't like my food fried. The absolute best surprise was the ice cream and peach cobbler they offered at the end of our meal. If you are looking for some good ol' home cookin' in small town Texas, you've got to give this place a try. They seem to have earned all of their 'best of ...., in Bosque County) awards. read more

To the people of Clifton it's nothing more than a home away from home. The atmosphere reminds you the TV show Cheers. When you walk through the door, someone is bound to scream your name and it will take you 5 minutes just to sit down because you're to busy shaking hands with everyone. Johnny's makes you feel at home and the staff will go out of their way to make sure you come back. Buffet or off the grill, it's a great place to meet a friend and chat or take the family. I prefer the sirloin (med rare) with veggies and a glass of ice tea. read more

Stopped in for desert, had the peach cobbler. Was pretty good of course it would have been better with blue bell ice cream. But they made a whole pot of coffee for us even though it was 8pm. read more

The breakfast here is amazing. Buffets for both breakfast and lunch can please the whole family. My favorite dish off the menu is the taco stuffed baked potato. Oh my god it is good! Prices are very reasonable and service is fast and friendly. Don't miss Johnny's! read more

It is getting close to Thanksgiving again so I feel a need to warn people about this truly lousy place to eat a buffet on Thanksgiving. DONT EAT HERE. Drive to Waco and eat at Black Eyed Pea. This was the worst place with no turkey, dried out ham, bread that I wouldn't feed my dog, desert was disgusting, and my daughter drove for 3 hours to eat this horrible meal and had to eat road junk food on her way back home another 3 hour drive. If I could give it a zero I would. Also no price adjustment for running out of turkey on Turkey Day! What the h!!!. What is this management thinking! read more

Buffet is always a great value. Friday night is our favorite, because of the catfish fry, and their "twisters" on the buffet. Twisters are awesome. Chicken breast wrapped around a jalepeno and mozzarella and wrapped in bacon. OMG, to die for. Breakfast is great too, ham steaks are awesome. While currently up for sale, they don't have a liquor license, they have a long-time solid staff and consistently good food value. Looking for a restaurant to buy? I think that people in this town enjoy bad food. This place is overpriced, they focus more on having a huge menu than having a smaller quality selection, the service varies from good to horrible, the food all tastes like frozen, canned, TV dinner style garbage. This place seems to be popular because it is like the neighborhood hang out, they support sports teams and have specials all the time, it's like Cheers or something, but I don't care about that. I go out to eat for good food not socializing. I've tried this place several times and although a couple of things I've had (like the fries) were OK none of it was worth going back for. I do not recommend this place for people that like good food. read more

I am amazed by the positive reviews of this place...atmosphere is important as is service, but the quality of the food is my ultimate concern, and I felt that this place had taken canned food and heated it up. This place wasn't the worst thing I have ever eaten, but it was just kind of blah. They are what I call a zap it restaurant, meaning that nothing tastes homemade....it is all microwaved or reheated frozen and canned foods. Sadly, this used to be a good restaurant to visit. Over the last few months, however, things have gone from good to mediocre to downright shameful. I don't know if it's been a change in management, or what. The last time I went, the fish was cold and rubbery, as if it had been reheated from the day before. The fried chicken was so salty, it wasn't even edible. My mom took my nephews back last week because they like the salad bar and rolls. Well, the salad bar was missing items and the rolls weren't even cooked. When my mother mentioned it, she was told they had a big crowd and ran out. Okay, but why not cook the rolls that were bought at the store? Then, a waitress named Andrea Phelps (my 10 year old nephew had such a negative impression of her he spelled her name tome), was very rude to my mom and had a sarcastic tone. I wish this was the first time we had poor service here, but it's not. The last 2 times I went it was because I was given a gift certificate to make up for the piss poor service and bad food. I tried to give them a chance as the owner assured me the staff would be retrained. Well, the management needs to be changed again, or the owner needs to get back in the restaurant and run things. Clifton is a small town, and there aren't many good places to eat around Whitney Lake...since I don't plan on ever returning, then there is just one less place for me to eat. read more
