We came in on a drizzly Sunday specifically tempted by the offering of charcuterie boards with a wine flight. The wines were acceptable (although only 3 to a flight for $10) but were underwhelmed by the charcuterie and the service. The board options were limited for a whopping $25 and the shrimp- an unusual and welcome addition- were not deveined (yuck). This winery is the BEST in NY, PA and all around... I have reviewed this wine a couple of years ago. We were in the area and decided to do the tastings to see if anything new is out, and if we still like the others that we purchased before. This place is Heaven to me when it comes to the wineries. My wife and I love this place so much. Everything we tried was awesome!!! The wine tasting is $2 for 6 tastings. We purchased a case of the wines that we liked, along with 2 - 3 Liters of wine. The prices are so great for example the 3 liters is $15.49 which is crazy on how much wine you get for the price. Since we purchased a case of wine we received a voucher that allows us to get up to 6 tastings for free every time we travel to the winery up to 1 year. Is that great or what. That's a motivator to come more often. Too bad it's 3 1/2 hours from our South Hills of Pittsburgh home. If you're in the area please give this place a chance. All of the wines are very good. This winery is a great place for a wine tasting! The staff is extremely friendly and they offer a great selection of wines to choose from. There's sweet, to dry, to two wines that literally taste like candy that would pair wonderfully over ice with vodka. We came here on a birthday tour and it was such a fun experience. The staff told our rowdy crew (patiently!) about each wine? And let us have as many tiny shots of each as we wanted. It was only $4 per head for our group, and I would love to come back. They had a huge selection of bottles for purchase, along with a great cheese and nut selection and a variety of other nice gift selections. My husband and I wanted to go to a winery for our anniversary, and this winery did not disappoint!! We purchased an early morning tour of the vineyard and had such a great time strolling through the expansive vineyard looking at all the varieties being grown. It was such a great experience seeing the differences in the shapes of leaves, grapes, and how they are encouraged to grow. The land was beautiful and it was great to walk the grounds and see the grapes being grown before sampling the end product. The flights were delicious and at a reasonable price. Nice winery in the heart of Chitaqua wine country. They offer tastings (free!) and tours. The wines vary, a few very good and others average. The Marachel Foch is very nice semi sweet red. The semi dry Reisling is also nice. The tasting room is cozy, but a bit tight. I wad disappointed I wasn't offered something to cleanse my palate between tastings, however, crackers and cheese are sold. Bottle prices range from $10-20. read more

We enjoyed each wine that we sampled, and bought 4 bottles. The prices were good for the wine as well! The woman who helped is was very friendly, and gave us great information on the wines that we sampled and the history of the winery itself. Johnson Estate is one of the best wineries on the Lake Erie wine trail. The staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable, and the wine is delicious and affordable. Even when they are super busy during weekend events and bridal party outings, they always make a point to interact with each customer and make sure their needs are met. During Iris blooming season, they have meats, cheeses and breads available for french style picnics throughout the property. The owners of the winery are so friendly, and while we were participating in one of these picnics, both the husband and wife chatted with us and allowed our small friendly pup to roam freely. AWESOME service! I emailed the winery to tell them we had a good size group coming to do some tastings and schedule a tour. I read on the area's wine trail tourism site that free tours were available, but Jennifer Johnson informed me they were not. I nicely let her know she may want to notify someone to change the incorrect info with no intention of getting anything in return, but she arranged for it to happen anyhow--even during a torrential downpour. Somewhat small tasting room, but Jennifer made our visit so nice. She even set up a table for us to have lunch that we brought with us from Panera. SUCH courteous staff. Makes me wish there were wineries like this on Long Island with such intimate and personal service. Bought 2 massive bottles of their sweet Niagara, and so did about half our group. This was our first winery on our Bachelorette tour, and we were all having such a good time that we didn't want to leave! I had such a lovely visit here this past Friday. I had the day off, the weather was pretty nice, and I was in the mood to go for a long drive to clear my mind and relax. I'd bought some bottles of their wine at the liquor store and enjoyed them, so I figured why not drive right to the source? It's out in the rolling countryside, and has a beautiful intimate facility. It is an estate winery, so the grapes are grown on premises. They have a much larger portfolio of wines than what is sold in stores. The lady working the counter was so nice and also knowledgable about their offerings. The tasting was very reasonable (can't remember if it was $2 or $3) but you get to try 6, and I'd say the pour was at least 1oz. They really have something for everyone. Whites and reds, dry to sweet. Sparkling, port, ice wines, even some spirits. Great variety. My goal was to get two bottles, a white and a red, to bring on a camping trip at the end of this month to share with friends. Something that most would enjoy. I left with the Chautauqua Rouge and Vidal Blanc, which are on the semi-dry end. I think my friends will really enjoy these on our upcoming Virginia Beach trip :) I love this winery and plan to visit again. read more

What a great way to end our (very) mini wine country tour this past Saturday afternoon! This winery is the oldest estate winery in New York state, meaning that they grow their grapes within 3000 feet of the winery. They also make ice wine, which does cost $2/person to taste but I highly recommend sampling the Chambourcin Ice Wine, particularly since it is so overly sweet a tasting of it satisfies perfectly! Out of the whites we sampled the semi-sweet Riesling stood out as the clear front runner for me. It had a more grapey flavor than a typical Riesling but was not overly sweet. I enjoyed it so much I purchased a bottle! The Liebestropfchen, a sweet and fruity white, was also a stand out. The flavors were still well balanced and it was very pleasing to the palette. With regard to the Reds, the Cabernet Sauvignon was very tasty! A nice, full-bodied wine with hints of cherry flavoring, almost, mixed throughout made this a great choice for someone like myself whom usually gravitates more towards whites than reds (however this mini tour may have turned me into an equal opportunity wine lover). Their merlot was also a great choice for me with more of a cinnamon spice taste, very reminiscent of the holiday season. The tasting room, which had a recent renovation, had a glass protected view of vats holding some of the wine, which I believe was unique to Johnson Estates. The staff was so helpful and very friendly as we chitchatted briefly with the ladies working following our tasting. I'm excited to return in the warmer months and see what the estate has to offer then! read more

Johnson Estates have a wonderful atmoaphere. One really cool addition was being able to see the wine barrels - they were the main attraction, aside from the tasting! The staff were so friendly and helpful. The wine selection was phenomenal - you couldn't make a bad choice. We had the best time here! We came in on a Saturday morning while in town. You purchase tokens to trade in for tasting various wines. They had probably 20 or more types of wine to try. Our server was great and told us all about the wines, what they would pair well with, and their history. The facility is large and clean. There is a lot of room to sit and walk around to shop.
