Then when I arrived, they asked for the cards again and told me they couldn't find me in the system--not even for Medicare, and I'm 71! Finally, after 1/2 hr. they found my records. The xrays, exam and cleaning all went OK. But they said they needed prior authorization to carry out a crown and a filling and said it would take 3-4 weeks. After 8 weeks I called and they still didn't have an answer. Upon checking with Medicaid, they said they were told they didn't file the request properly and had to start the process over. I waited another 8 weeks and called again but they still hadn't heard from Medicaid. So, I called Medicaid myself and was told that they had no record of any authorization requests from Complete Smiles.They also said that they were only a few days behind in reviewing authorization requests--NOT 3-4 or 4-6 weeks or longer. When I told the dentist's office about this, they admitted that they've been having serious issue with their clearing house which was hacked and weren't even getting paid for their services. Bad things happen, but this office was very remiss in not following up more closely and notifying me why things were taking so long. In the meantime, 4 mos. later, I finally went to another dentist and found out that my need for a crown has escalated into a root canal. And 3 more small cavities were not detected by the dentist at Complete Smiles.

AND they've committed a number of LEGAL VIOLATIONS, as well!! It's difficult to write a review like this, when my personal belief is that not a lot can be done by complaining, so why do it? HOWEVER, I'm hoping it comes across more as giving information that I wish I would have had, when I was choosing a dentist. I'll TRY to keep what's turned into a VERY LONG story, into a manageable one. This begins last year, 2020. At only 50 years old, I had to have the rest of my teeth pulled and get dentures. I did so through Frandsen Dental. Before they pulled my teeth, they made the molds and dentures. When I was asked to approve them, I was very verbal about wanting the adjustment made so that I would have an overbite. I was told NO, that change would NOT be made! I was TOLD that although I would be completely sedated for the extractions, I would still get the nitrous oxide to calm me down. I was having a lot of teeth pulled. I was nervous. Upon arrival, they acted like they were just going to start. I asked about the sedation. The assistant told me that the dentist I had been assigned had not been in Utah long enough to get licensed to do that. I was NOT HAPPY! So, I hoped I could get by on just the nitrous oxide. Then the assistant told me that the dentist could not do that, either, for the same reason. He had not been in Utah long enough to get licensed. Also, I have a heart murmur and I am NOT supposed to get dental work done without "premedicating" with an antibiotic. Frandsen Dental did not call one in for me and when I asked about it again, the day of the extractions, I was told "it really wasn't that important anyway, so we'll go ahead without it." So, no premedicating, no sedation, and no nitrous oxide. I told the assistant I just didn't know how I'd get through. Instead of rescheduling with a different dentist, which is what I WANTED to do, the dental assistant asked me if I take Lorazepam. She knew I did. So, she told me, "just take 5 or 6 of those and you'll be calm enough." HUH?!?!?? ISN'T THAT PRACTICING MEDICINE WITHOUT A LICENSE??? So, I get the dentures, which NEVER have fit, even still. The patient is allowed five free visits for adjustments. After that, they are $45 per appointment. Five MIGHT have been enough, IF they were adjusted to the patient's satisfaction, AT EACH AND EVERY ADJUSTMENT! BUT THEY'RE NOT! EVERY SINGLE TIME I went in for an adjustment, the dentist told me, "Try that for a few weeks," even without adjusting EVERY spot that rubbed or had sores. As a result, I had FOURTEEN adjustments in that first year. Because I was so vocal about it, they did not charge me the additional $45. So that year goes by and I had each arch re-lined. They still don't fit, but they're better I had kept Dr. Frandsen abreast of what was going on, and he simply dismissed me.

It was incredibly frustrating. This office took me seriously right away. They listened to my concerns, identified the issue, and fixed it quickly. Dr. Burr is my dentist, and I have seen Dr. Hopkins, their contracted oral surgeon, as well. Both have fantastic bedside manner, and once they start, are quick to complete the appointment. My GPS did not do a stellar job directing me here. The office is between Noodles and Company and Café Zupas, and locating those other storefronts is probably the easiest way to find them. Prices seem to be in line with other dentists. The interior of the office is bland, but clean (and I really have not been to a stellar medical office since I lived out East). Even though it is a bit out of the way for me, and there are roughly 38 other dental offices closer, I will likely continue coming here.
