Loved this rock shop! It was the highlight of our trip. There had been a bad storm before we got there and the lake was pretty nasty. Found this jewel of a shop and had the best time shopping here. Such a nice surprise. I don't think I even saw all of the buildings.

I used to spend my Saturdays at my favorite rock shop, Shu's Rock Shop in League City, but after they closed permanently. I was left out of luck. During about the same time Shu's closed, another rock shop in Seabrook closed as well. So, the only other option that my sister and I didn't wanna take was the Katy's Rock Shop.... After searching on Yelp and Google for "rock shops nearby"; we found Johnson's Rock Shop. A little hesitant to visit at first, well, due to it being a small country city in Texas many miles away from Jasper, we just didn't get caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time type of deal (if you catch my drift). It was a 2 hour drive from my house and let me tell ya, it was well worth it. First off, I've never been to Livingson before, but driven through Coldsprings plenty of times. The rock shop is located on back paths, dirt roads, and in a residential area: that's the first sign when you feel lost. However, thankfully there are signs how to get to the rock shop, like Dorothy from the wizard of Oz just follow the yellow signs that reads "rock shop" with directional arrows pointing. Once we got there, we noticed there wasn't that much parking, so we hurried in and parked. The rock shop is so cute! It's behind the front facing house and consists of ten little shops, even a museum! Oh and rocks everywhere!!! The price are so affordable, I wanted to buy more, but a reminder is its cash only. Be prepared. The Johnson's are so sweet, immediately my fear of visiting went away and I felt at home with the beautiful gems. It was pieces I've never seen before such as palm wood, golden lepidolite, tons of different fossils, and a museum at a rock shop! Mr. Johnson sits outside and talks to you as you walks by, he is so educated with the rocks. I loved that most about the rock shop. Also, they have been in business for years -- such a genuine rock shop! I've fell in love with this rock shop and was able to buy a few goodies. I even took my mum and though she isn't a big collector and rockhound like my sister and I, she picked up a rutilated quartz necklace, onyx pendant, and agate earrings. She enjoys the jewelry. As I type this review, I cannot wait to come back to explore! Tip to those traveling from afar: do leave your house early to arrive here, the rock shop closes at 5pm.

Best rock shop: reasonably priced, friendly atmosphere, various shops, quality specimens, rural area

Out of all the time I wasted at shops like the Katy Rock shop and Treasure Chest which are poorly operated by money hungry business owners I could've easily saved time here. This is the first and only rock shop I been to where the specimens were reasonably priced, where minerals are considered a passion rather than a business where money is king. You'll notice things like that when you normally go and search for rock shops. This one in particular is A+ it isn't just one shop, but several other mini shops attached and each shop has something different inside. You'll find a variety of gem stones, tumbler accessories, books, fingernail specimens, large showcase minerals, and history behind each shop. If you are looking to find stands or placement for your mineral they have it here. The only issue is that they are located in Livingston so I can't easily drive to rock shop and it's only open on certain days. But overall this is the best Rock & Mineral shop in the Houston area. Shu's rock shop in League City went out of business, Treasure Chest in Kemah went out of business and Katy rock shop owners are just in it for the money, the Johnson rock shop has history carried behind it and majority of all the minerals and rocks were collected by the owners and or family over the years. These people are super friendly and you might will see an older man sitting on the bench outside of the shop greeting everyone! Most definitely a sight to check out if you are in the area or just have a passion for minerals like me!

Love this place, but they need to update their hours on Google. They are not open on Sundays as listed, and we just drove out there from Houston. Some very disappointed kiddos.

So so cool! This place is so neat. It's got an endless amount to choose from. It's rugged and dirty. For sure like finding a diamond in the rough! Can't wait to go back with another group of people. It's landscaped with beautiful flowers to take some pretty neat photos. They have a bathtub full of rocks which he actually allowed our little nugget to jump inside and get a photo in. Seems small but actually is a lot when you've got kids. They are incredibly welcoming and complete sweethearts

Kinda hard to find, but well worth the search. After 11 miles, 3 dirt roads and some eerie banjo music playing in the air, we finally found this (pardon the pun) jem of a roadside attraction.

If you are on a dirt road, you are in the right place. It is very much off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. It's an experience as much as it is a store. It is family run. The daughter told us it was their hobby that outgrew her parents' house. And kept on growing. They have numerous buildings in a village style with rooms for various rocks, petrified wood, jewelry, fossils, shells, etc. They also have buildings for other hobbies that outgrew the house including a music room where the owner has recorded a CD for sale. We were there on a Sunday--they are usually closed in Sundays, but they open if one if the family members happens to be around. Great place to visit. And prices are very reasonable.

It's a family business down to the china the meals are served on. The tea room is beautifully kept and inviting. Loved the sampler lunch with pimento cheese, chicken salad and cucumber dill sandwiches and great tomato basil soup too. Next time I will make sure to save room for dessert as well. I had iced tea but they had a very nice selection of Ahmad tea for hot tea. The owner and staff were absolutely lovely and even arranged a comfy little place next to our table for my friends baby boy to lie and play on while we ate. We enjoyed browsing the cute gift shop in the front of the building as well. Such a nice place to enjoy lunch and I look forward to going back!

This is the first time it has been used as a gift shop and tea room. Everything is authentic down to the antique plates, Silverware and stemware. Warm and cozy it's got country charm everywhere. Once you get to the back Tea Room you'll be given a simple menu to choose from and nothing on it is less than delicious. The hot tomato basil soup was served in a teacup. So cute!! With a generous portion of quiche for my main course, the side dish stole the show. The best broccoli salad I've ever eaten. I would highly recommend stopping by for a nibble and a shop. I would also recommend the peach tea and buttermilk pie. The menu may change as they repair their food fresh daily. You won't find food processors here, it's all done by hand with love.
