This place is a joke! They were hired to do a military move. Moving day, 4 guys are 3 hours late and looking high. They were sent away. 4 more were sent. They worked 2 hours, left for lunch and never came back. Come to find out they stole over $2,000 cash out of my wallet! GM has no solution on getting this done. The best they could do was send 2-3 guys to finish the job that's already a day late! We were supposed to be out and done yesterday. Where's the accountability and professionalism??? read more

Can we pick 0 stars? This company is the worst we've worked with in dozens of moves. Straight up did not show for pack and load days with zero communication. We understand changes to schedule IF it's communicated. But when the dispatcher tells us the crew is showing up at 9 am, and we call at 10 to let them know no one is here, their response was they had no idea when someone would be out. All week this happened. We wasted a whole week waiting for them and are incurring financial burdens by sitting here because they missed their deadline and they weren't even going to let us know. read more

Pathetic management. Embarrassing company. Same as all the other reviews. My wife actually saw the fact that while a lot of moving companies have negative reviews, this one ONLY has negative reviews (people are quick to complain but slow to praise) and asked me to refuse this company, but I missed my chance, don't make my mistake. Our scheduled delivery date was today. No phone calls yesterday, so I called around. They gave me the Vice President of the whole companies' number (he was apparently the only one who could give me an update because big corporate couldn't get a hold of the Topeka office at all themselves). But he never returned my call. I finally got one person who told me we were scheduled for today but it wasn't dispatched yet so they couldn't narrow it down more than 8-5. 1st warning sing- 4pm the day before and they din't know what was moving when yet. I started calling numbers at 11am today. No answer, and again the parent company can't even get a hold of this location. Finally got a guy who said they'd come after 7pm. For a full unpack too... The larger company that subcontracted my move to Johnson even told me twice that they've had lots of issues with this company in the past several weeks, and they had several other people today expecting their stuff today that also were dealing with a no show. So it's 11pm and still no phone call or anything. All they need to do is call me and say they are behind and give me a new delivery window. It'd still cost them inconvenience fees for missing the deadline, but I'd be online saying positive things instead of describing their ineptitude. I've had to constantly be on hold trying to get information, they should just call when they see they screwed up instead of act like it's going to be ok. Then I could actually plan my life, instead of ensuring one person is always home "in case" they show up. No customer support or empathy. This company should've died years ago by natural selection but is being held up but some unknown ignorant force. Refuse them and get someone else. Also, looks like they like to spend a lot of time replying to negative reviews. Maybe they should spend more time calling their customers first so they don't have to spend so much refuting negative reviews... read more

If you are even thinking of using this company for your move- turn and run away as fast as you can. They tout customer sevice - they do not even know the meaning of the word. I used them for my move from KC to Wichita - wrong decision. Many things were broken and damaged and they refused to take care of the customer/ I put one star because they will not accept a review without a star - but my star is 0. read more

We are a Military Family with 17 years of AFS. This was our first Government assisted move and as a result of this horrendously disastrous experience it will be our last. From the moment my wife left the transportation brief and May Flower showed up to inventory and pack out HHGs it's been horrific. Provided below for transparency and situational awareness to Military Families in particular are the details of an email that was sent to our Transportation Service Provider (TSP) whom is in the supervisory chain of concern and overseeing the coordination, resourcing, execution, and timely delivery of HHGs, or I should say at least in our case the lack thereof. If at all possible avoid having Johnson Moving and Storage, Topeka, KS and your transportation of HHGs providers. Extremely rude and unprofessional.       Good afternoon. I hope this email finds you well. In response to your email concerning the quality and professionalism of our Government assisted move that has been in part coordinated and resourced by your employer UniGroup on behalf the of Department of Defense and the USTRANSCOM; unfortunately I could not be more dissatisfied as a customer, let alone an Active Duty Military Service Member with 17 years of dedicated Service to our Nation.        From day one of our move which originated at Fort Knox, KY and was facilitated by Mayflower (a last minute change as United was originally selected as the mover/transporter of our HHGs) up until this email, our move has been a horrendous disaster. At this point in the move the only thing(s) that can possibly make this assisted move any worse would be the loss or damage to our HHGs; which I suspect will be the case.       In devising this email I do realize that complaints from myself won't make this move any better since the damage so to speak by means of a lack of professionalism on the behalf of May Flower, United Van Lines, Affiliated Van Lines, and most notably Johnson Moving and Storage from Topeka, KS is already done. I only hope that some one in your supervisory chain with a strong since of acts of service, customer service, and professionalism associated with assisting not just Military Families with their Government moves, but all customers being assisted your organization are treated with dignity and respect, and that our items are delivered on time per contract and treated with the same sense of care that your own personal items would be cared for.      Our HHGs were surveyed while I was still in Afghanistan on March 31st in which the surveyor gave an estimate that a single day would be required to pack and load our HHGs. This was in fact wrong, and  caused tension with the packers (May Flower from Lexington, KY) who openly announced their displeasure with the surveyor's assessment which led to an additional day of packing. Due to the fact that I was on leave this additional day of packing backed me against the wall professionally in which my Family and I had to drive 700 miles on may last day on leave as opposed to making the trip in two consecutive days which I was entitled to per my travel orders.            Of all the grievances with the move the most notable was the fact that our goods had a required delivery date (RDD) of 21 June. Our HHGs weren't NOT delivered on the 21st of June and of right now I have yet to receive our HHGs. I had to personally contact each office to include the office in Lexington, KY, Fenton, MO, Lawton, OK, and Topeka, KS to check on the status of my Family's possessions for the past 14 days. Today my goods were finally supposed to be delivered between 0930 and 1230. At 1230 I spoke to "David" at Johnson Moving and Storage in Topeka, KS when my HHGs failed to arrive at 1230. David rudely placed me on hold after he failed to address my issues with customer service as well my issue with the office not contacting me to notify me that our goods would not be delivered on time. After speaking with whom I believe to be his supervisor who told me her GM "Clark" would personally deliver our HHGs. I don't have any confidence that "Clark will deliver my HHGs between 3-5pm as discussed.      Finally fed up I contacted the Fort Riley In-Bound Property Office at Transportation whom advised me to contact my TSP. I then spent an additional hour on the phone contacting four separate offices until I actually reached who I believe to be my Transportation Service Provided (TSP), however I still don't know if UniGroup is the TSP because "Raquella" wasn't confident in her role, nor could she provide me with any credible information regarding an inconvenience claim.      All I'm seeking is to know whom is ultimately responsible for failing to deliver my HHGs on time per the service contract which stated a RDD of 21 June, and to know what the repercussions are if any for the supervisory chain or management personnel who failed to deliver goods on time, and even nine days after the original RDD. read more

This is the second time I've had a bad experience with this company. The first time I had no choice because my employer paid for it. My items arrived late, which happens, but the poor customer service that accompanied it really turned me off on them. This time around I only got so far as an in-home estimate. Even that was a process. He didn't want to come to my home because it was "like 100 miles from me" (he actually said that!). I mapped it and it was 60 miles. He didn't want to drive 60 miles to do the job he's paid to do. Instead he wanted to do an estimate over the phone and have me do all of the work of taking inventory of my house. When he finally did do an in-home inventory at my request he included the wrong things on the estimate he sent me (packing, insurance, etc.) then seemed annoyed when I asked for a revised estimate. Then the final amount was over twice the amount of the one I got from their much superior competition, Kansas Van & Storage. I compared his estimated weight to what the final weight actually was and he was 1,000 pounds off. Pretty big blunder for a small two bedroom home. Maybe I should have done the inventory myself after all. read more

After a mix up with my email address, I got a quote after three weeks. They were very sorry and very accommodating with any dates that I wanted. They tried to be so quick that they wanted to deliver my furniture before I was going to get there. I had to pay extra to have them hold it. In the quote they told me one to two weeks for delivery not three days. At the last minute they did add pounds to the quoted and added to the price. This was a little confusing and as it turned out they had over shot by almost 1000 lbs and refunded very little. They people that did the loading and unloading were great. They were friendly and very helpful. They gave me extra boxes and helped organized the mess that I had created. They worked quickly and had me loaded in under four hours. Overall the experience was a positive one. Ask lots of questions so you understand what is happening. They are very nice about answering all your questions. read more

Johnson Moving Experience I am a military Captain and this company was trusted and failed. Our packers were scheduled 12-13July19. They were friendly and worked hard but had to come back on Sunday, 15JUL18 because they did not have any more wardrobe boxes and no one brought the packers additional boxes for that day. Load day was scheduled on 16JUL18. At 9am I called the Topeka office to check on an ETA since no one had called yet. No one was able to give me an answer because they a truck was on the side of the road. I called many times again at 11am then 1PM, still no ETA. I received the General Manager Clark's cell, he then told me someone will be at my house but no estimated time yet. Finally, a truck arrived at 5PM. It was a small UHAUL rental truck. The driver even stated he was taking the truck TO HIS HOUSE AFTER! The truck was not going to fit all of our belongings and another truck would have to come and no one was able to tell me when another truck would come, thereby, our furniture would be split up. At this point we felt very uncomfortable and stated to the General Manager that we did not want the truck to take our things. Mr. Clark suggested they can come on Wednesday, 18JUL18. My husband already took that day off but nothing was accomplished. My husband then took Wednesday, 18JUL18 off since that was the rescheduled date. Once again, no one updated us and I proceeded to call the Topeka office at 8am then 10am, 12PM and 2PM. No one arrived until 10PM! They then stayed until 0415AM! They then were not done and had to come back the next day and we never got an ETA the next day Thursday, 19JUL18---they arrived at 9PM and left at 0215AM. My husband lost 3 days of work. I had to reschedule our carpet cleaning due to the movers not finishing the job on the scheduled time. I also have a toddler who was up very late due to the late arrival. I was very patient with the very bad service but it was a terrible experience. The loaders were great but management was very poor. The General Manager, Clark, lied to my husband and I on multiple occasions in regards to time of arrival and what was going on. read more

This place is a joke. We are a military family currently on day two of our move. The movers have been here for 45 minutes total so far. We received an email Monday night staying that the movers would be here between 8-5 on Tuesday. They finally showed up at 11:15 just to drop off boxes. They stated that they were scheduled to do another move and then they would be back. They showed up at 5 pm and packed our master bedroom and then left. They were supposed to be here first thing this morning and we still haven't seen them. We tried calling 30 minutes ago and were told that they were "in the area and should be there any minute." Still nothing. The packers have been very friendly and efficient but the management is terrible. The packers finally showed up around 1130 and did a good job. They left this afternoon and said that the loaders would be here today or tomorrow to load us but didn't know specifics. We have tried to call the dispatcher 3 times today to see when they were supposed to come so that we could try and plan the rest of our day. We have left messages each time and never received a call back. read more

We are a military family that was assigned Johnson. Please do not let this company move you. We have been waiting over 2 weeks for this company to finish the job. We have missed multiple load days and we keep being told crews are on their way and never show. We still aren't sure if they will show to finish loading there other half of our household goods. We're a military family. Find a different company to move you. If someone tells you Johnson is moving you, refuse to use them. Worst moving experience of my life. In the very beginning, my wife had called a month prior to schedule a pre-move survey. She was told we weren't in their system. After calling around she was told we were in their system, but under her maiden name. She was told they would call us back closer to the move date to confirm our pre-move survey. No one called. She called them back to confirm our pre-move survey one week before our scheduled pack date. Again they told us we were not in their system. She had to call several people to confirm we were in their system and to schedule the pre-move survey. Now for the worst part. The packers showed up Monday to pack our things. From the time they arrived to shortly after they left two of my firearms showed up missing. They are kept in a safe and were only removed that morning because I thought we could trust the company that would be handling our property. The police are now involved and hopefully can recover them. We spoke to Clark the GM and he was very uncooperative. We will file a claim, but based on the response we got from management it's unlikely they will do anything about their employees or our stolen property. Unfortunately my homeowners insurance will probably have to cover this theft and I will get an increase in my premiums. The move was under my wife's maiden name, Schrull, if someone with Johnson tries to refute this. read more

This was the worst move ever, and being military, we've had a few. If you value your sanity, choose another moving company. They arrived with no furniture pads, and wanted to take our furniture without any protection. The packers didn't know how to pack or were not trained. They did not know how to estimate a shipment so that there would be enough space on the moving truck. We then had to wait four days for them to pick up the overflow. Do not use this company. If it were possible to rate them with negative stars, I would. My experience was terrible. Unfortunately I had no choice, since it was arranged through my employer, but I will definitely not choose to use this company again, and if I'm told Johnson will be moving me in the future, I will flat-out refuse and demand another company. They didn't tell me the date or time they would arrive to unload my belongings at the new address until the day itself--and even then, they promised to call me when they were on their way, but they never called, just showed up at my door. In addition, the people who arrived didn't know where to go or what to unload. Whoever is in charge of scheduling or coordinating didn't do their job. The two people who were unloading the truck were unnecessarily rough with everything. They rolled things down the ramp from the truck instead of carrying them, tumbled boxes and slammed them into each other, and crashed furniture and other items around. They dropped furniture and other items more than once. They also unwrapped the furniture and other items that were padded and wrapped while they were on the truck, and just tossed some items on the ground before carrying them inside, rather than keeping them protected until they were unloaded and carried inside. Due to the way they handled things like mattresses without keeping them protected, some of my belongings are stained with their sweat--disgusting! Even worse, they damaged multiple valuable pieces of furniture (e.g. antiques, large expensive pieces), including damaging some irreplaceable pieces beyond repair. They crushed several boxes, and damaged the contents of boxes despite the contents having been safely packed at the old address with lots of padding in heavy, high-quality moving boxes. As I watched items being unloaded and moved inside, I saw exactly how some items that had been fine on the truck were damaged by the way they were handled. On top of that, I have found several items missing. The third person who arrived partway through, the general manager Clark, was just as careless with my belongings, and was rude and insulting. He directly ignored me and refused to do as I asked. He then left without completing anything. The original two movers continued to unload the rest of my belongings. I have to give them credit for apologizing for Clark's behavior. However, that apology didn't make up for his behavior, their poor performance, the damage to my belongings, or how ridiculously badly the entire thing was handled. I will be filing a claim for the damage done to my belongings by the appalling way they were handled. This was by far the worst treatment of my belongings that I have ever experienced--and pretty bad treatment of me, too. I have moved several times before this, and never have I seen such terrible service from a moving company. Stay away from Johnson! read more

I had a great experience from start to finish. Packers/Truck arrived on time and were professional and friendly. My belongings were delivered 3 days later 600 miles away and the service on that end was just as good! For my first professional move it was so easy and would use again! read more

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with this company. While the individual packers, drivers, movers, and estimator that I dealt with were all trying hard to make things work, the company had overbook by an unbelievable amount and did not show up when they were scheduled to do so. We were scheduled for a two-day pack on a Thursday and Friday. After badgering my national moving coordinator who badgered Johnson, a two-person crew finally showed up around 3 pm on Thursday.... but with no boxes. A different two-person crew showed up on Friday to finish the packing job. They left several things unpacked, but we could deal with that. The truck and loaders were scheduled for Monday morning - no show. On Tuesday, the truck showed, but no movers. Finally around 10:30 a two person crew (one of whom was restricted to lifting no more than 10 pounds) showed up. The first item didn't make it to the truck until noon. It's now 2:30 and only part of one room has been loaded. Mind you, I'm in a 4400 sf house with 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. read more

They are part of United Van Lines -- I would never recommend this moving company. They moved me across the US and they BROKE several of my possessions. Their process (if they break things) is to pay an adjuster to come assess the damage and to then glue your items back together. If the items cannot be glued back together, they will fix with putty (on a wooden bed) and stain over it. They do not offer to give you a replacement and you must be satisfied with their decision to repair. They broke/shattered the bottoms of two like-new steam cleaners when they dropped them off of the moving truck. They would only pay me for one steam cleaner. They only paid half on the other one even though I provided estimates on the same type model at the same price I paid!! They are a complete ripoff. Warning! Do not use them. They rush you through the moving process. You are expected to inventory your items as they rush them into the truck. You cannot keep up with the 5-6 guys they have carrying your items onto the truck. read more
