I thought I'd try Johnsons BBQ in Harrisburg today for the first time. What a mistake. Cost my 26 bucks for 18.09 worth of food. (Sent someone to get it). Got the Italian beef, it was 6 out of 10, polish sausage, 4 out of 10, fried okra 4 out of 10. The most disappointing item was the fried mushroom, paid 4.89 for literally 6 small fried mushrooms. They were over fried. We will not be going back that's for sure. read more

It could be in a novel. By the side of the road is a trailer, where a lone man sells barbecue, with a sign proclaiming his devotion to the Second Amendment, and with no mask. In a nearby structure are a bunch of giant metal smokers, which he walks over to and tends between customers. It is a "drive through" in the sense that you pull your car up to the window, tell him what you want, and then sit there while he goes and gets all of your food. Cars line up behind you, because all of them want this man's barbecue. His deep fryer is broken, so the only side dishes he offers are cole slaw and potato salad. The meat comes sauced and tucked into a slightly soggy hamburger bun, wrapped in wax paper. The portions are small, the prices are cheap, and it tastes like spice and smoke. read more

This is not a sit down spot - it's drive thru, except in summer there is a small meshed tent area you COULD sit. However this BBQ is best to take and go! They sell individual sandwiches and BBQ by 1/2 and full pound. He also sells his sauce at the local Kroger grocery store! I know, you're scratching your head right now. 5 stars?!? Yes. 5 stars. The BBQ is that good. The pork is tender, juicy, well flavored with the right amount of smoke, and is just plain awesome. You always get your food with a smile too. Who needs a restaurant with tables and chairs? I can eat at home... or if it doesn't make it that far, in my car. Do yourself a favor. Bring a cooler and buy an extra pound or two of BBQ pork. You can always freeze leftovers! And don't forget to get a couple bottles of sauce too! Sweet and spicy is my favorite - ohh so good. read more

Absolutely awful service. The man working was rude from the first interaction and seemed more interested in his car. Initially I wanted meat with extra sauce, but instead of honoring the posted price of $.85 for a side of sauce, he said it would be $2.00. I decided to order just a half pound of turkey which was posted at $4.75 and a bottle of water posted at $2.00. When he took my card he rang it up for $9.75. I asked why it was so much and he said they raised the price of the turkey to $6.50 which was posted NOWHERE on the premises. And when it was handed to me, it was cold. Ice cold. At this point I was so fed up I just asked for my money back, at which point he called the owner who tried to argue with me through the phone about the price being raised. They completely missed the point that you can't charge a completely different price from the menu on pretty much every single item. The employee was totally unapologetic about it all. Be careful or you WILL get scammed here. I get that food prices are rising, but you can't try to pull one over on your customers. Raising the price by a third or almost doubling it for some items without updating the posted menu is a total scam. Will never return. read more

I went there to make the most of the little bit of money I had on me at the time. Thanks to a certificate I had from Restaurants.com I printed out 2 days ago. I made my food choices and found the shack, but was waved to the side by a man and asked what I wanted and told me that he didn't think "he" was accepting those things any more. I told him I only got it 2 days ago, how can they pull something off the table like that? He asked the man inside the shack and was told that they were no longer on that system. He had called them and told them that.Their food may be great, but that's NO way to run a business. read more
