JJC is not easy to work with for course planning, scheduling, preparation, etc. We had to call to schedule classes because online was not accessible, they had so many issues scheduling the class and then after there were technical glitches that they did not accept responsibility for so we had to apply for a refund. If you are a fresh high school graduate do not expect help from any department. I recommend going to Morraine or GSU if at all possible and avoid JJC at all costs. read more

Absolutely terrible college. The professors will never help. They will tell you to just read your book and will spend half the time lecturing students about how "you are in college now and you're not acting like adults when you get to a university they won't accept how you are." They are overpaid Highschool teachers who don't care for their job or students. Good luck if you're someone who has a disability they will treat you worse. I had a professor due a COVID (a bio teacher) who made fun of me in one of his lecture videos because I didn't understand the assignment even when I asked for help. Today I encountered the security guard being discriminative towards me. I have a handicap(I will not disand so I parked in handicap and hung my plaque over my mirror. I walk in the campus at17840 W Laraway in Joliet and the Security said to me "you are parked in handicap" I said I know I hung my plaque he said "YOU DO NO LOOK HANDICAP" I ask him what does handicap look like? He said " YOU DO NOT WALK LIKE YOU HANDICAP" I said again what does handicap look like? Then he got confrontational and I just told the instructors that I'm just going to leave the campus. I was so embarrassed in front of a class of students and 3-4 instructors in the hallway. I would never set feet on Joliet Junior College again. The Chef's Table is the culinary art's full service restaurant. They are only open a few days a week with limited hours during the fall and spring semester. Their creations are always fresh and unique. Sometimes you can watch the ice sculpting classes just outside the windows. A lunch meal will run you around $7. This is an excellent school full of opportunities. The staff is really friendly. I live in the Moraine Valley Community College district, but I chose to go to JJC (and pay out-of-district fees) due to the organization of the website and departments and level of customer service that I have received over MVCC. Yes, having a friendly vibe wins "customers," even if they have to pay more. Everyone is friendly and willing to help at JJC. The college has a "new" vibe to it (even though it is the oldest community college in the nation) with recently-constructed buildings and many renovations. I suggest getting involved. Working on campus is a great way to make money while having a job that is 100% guaranteed to work around your class schedule while giving you the experience of working in a professional environment. Get involved in a club or sport. There are plenty of clubs at JJC, and if there isn't one you like, start one of your own. It is a great way to gain leadership experience (and possible scholarships) while meeting friends and networking. The professors are top-notch. Most of the professors that I have had have taught at 4-year universities. I actually LEARN at JJC. I was not the best high school student, but attending JJC has taught me to love learning. All professors have office hours that you can go to for help in classes. The school loves to give back to its students. Activities and events happen quite often. Magicians, live band karaoke, free food days, comedians, educational speakers, Nerf gun wars, zombie runs, and free massages are just some of the events that are offered during a typical semester, all for free. I would recommend JJC to anyone. It is highly affordable and offers many resources to students. Take advantage of the opportunities JJC gives you. Learn about everything JJC has to offer. My first semester at JJC, I did not even know the buildings were connected. I went to class and then went straight to my car, avoiding contact with anyone. My subsequent semesters, however, I decided to join clubs and get involved on campus, and I do not regret it for a second. I am saddened that this is only a community college, because not many 4-year universities devote the level of care and attention to student success that JJC does. read more

Workers like Joe Pecko, who shirk their responsibilities and rely on other staff, employers and/or clients to pick up their slack and to cover for them, especially with the new laws concerning Title IX, can and will damage workforce morale and destroy the business. Joe Pecko came to Joliet Jr College from a small (but very expensive) family owned for-profit college. He was the Program Director at Northwestern College in Bridgeview. The student retention rate was at 37% of 90% college age females. With an irresponsible employee in charge at Northwestern College, Bridgeview, IL it created a culture of irresponsibility of some of the employee's throughout the school, particularly when some of the other male instructors saw that his behavior was condoned or, worse, it was rewarded with promotions or plum assignments. Northwestern College in Bridgeview, IL should have acted immediately to correct Joe Pecko's irresponsible behavior and promote responsible actions. Unfortunately, the student's were just transferring to other school's and the instructors that worked under Joe were having too much fun breaking the rules themselve's to report him to the officials in charge. The owners of the college were never around the college in Bridgeview, IL because their corporate office was in Naperville, IL. Take my warning about Joe Pecko very serious. He can't be trusted because he has more legal power behind him then before and if given the chance, he will abuse that power to his advantage. Betsy DeVos significantly limited Title IX, the 1972 civil rights act that made it unlawful to discriminate against students "on the basis of sex." DeVos's changes target one aspect of the law in particular: They make it so that people accused of sexual harassment and misconduct on campus will have far more options than the people who accuse them, potentially putting power into the hands of a sexual harasser. read more

This place is a complete joke! They give you false information when you're trying to see an advisor. I went 4 times to see one and I was denied all FOUR times. They need to get a lot better with scheduling appointments when students are trying to sit with an advisor. read more

Mary Gajcak of the Will County Workforce Investment Board runs the show and she will hook you up with weekly updates on job leads and direct access to employers seeking people in the area that are exclusive and non published. The staff is very unprofessional and some are rude. Some professors don't answer any emails and most let computers do all the grading and don't really care about their students passing or failing. Some professors are ok though. Financial aid office is awful, they'll give you false information and are completely unhelpful. Parking lot is impossible to navigate, the road around the school is a disaster and I've been late to class multiple times because I've waited for more than 10 minutes trying to turn into the parking lot. You can save money by going to Joliet Junior College but if you can get into any other school, go there. read more

JJC was a great school choice for me. I left JJC in 1993 with 4.0 GPA and transferred to University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I graduated Bronze Tablet and a perfect GPA two years later. JJC prepared me for this big transition and I can't say enough about how great the experience was not to mention value for the dollar! read more

i'm a current student at jjc, and have lived in joliet my entire life. people like to talk a lot of shit about jjc, like it's some half-ass school. but it's full of really wonderful professors and job opportunities. the horticulture department is stellar. community colleges are essential for providing working-class people some college credits and the opportunities that come with them without all that nasty student debt. yay jjc. i will miss it when i transfer away this winter. read more

I saved thousands by attending JJC and it has more culture than the university I now attend. There are tons of clubs, student events, and activities. The main campus is very modern and well-maintained. There are tons of resources available to students like free tutoring, resume help, and job fairs. Really good school if you can't afford anywhere else. Some "professors" are so unprofessional and rude, they don't care whether you pass or fail, they just make it all online and let the computer do the grading. But then you have the professors that are just better then some I've had at my other school. Check rate my professor. Depending on where you live the drive can become tedious also. read more

Really lousy faculty and seems like no one knows what they're talking about. Took an online class and had to go to the testing center to take tests and the teacher had the test locked when it should've been opened and I emailed her about it and got no response, mind you I emailed her in the beginning of the semester about class requirements and she still hasn't emailed me back and the semester is almost over so still no response. I called the department secretary about the test being locked and she was like "hmm that's weird someone else had contacted me about it but it was unlocked since and everything was fine" and I said no it was still locked and she continued to act like I was lying about it and told me "well I don't know what to tell you". Throughout all of my classes here at JJC I think I've had about four genuinely good teachers who wanted you to understand the material and pass and everyone else it's just a paycheck. Very disappointing. Spend your time and money somewhere else. read more
