Ben knows how to work with people who need help in this area, in a way that is empathetic, respectful, educational, and even fun! One of his greatest talents is that he knows how to recognize and capture your authentic expressions, even in a studio environment. This is evident when you look through his portfolio. When he gives guidance on posing/angles, he walks through the "why" of each step and how even subtle changes affect the final product. I drove from Seattle to Portland to work with Daniel "Danger Ninja" Hoyt. Several models I had a…read morelot of respect for had worked with him in the past, so I was hopeful about creating some awesome content. I bought some expensive French lingerie, props, and paid for my own travel expenses and lodging for what was supposed to be a "trade" shoot. During the shoot he was very unprofessional in his language about posing suggestions, saying things like "can you stick your a** out more" or "can you cover your tits with your hands?" He wanted me to do very sexual poses instead of just letting me do my thing. It was uncomfortable and weird. He also kept reminding me that he was meeting his friend afterward, making me feel rushed. After the shoot, I had another shoot with a photographer at a studio next door. Daniel warned me "that guy is a creep" LOL. (He was an eccentric guy, but a total sweetheart.) A few weeks passed and I got a couple of photos back. Daniel pressured me to make a Zivity account and post them, telling me it was the only way I (read: he) would make money from our shoot. I found out that photographers get a payout from sets that models post on Zivity. Whatever, I did it. No big deal. A few more weeks passed and he still hadn't sent me the rest of the photos from the outfits we shot (he only sent me the full nude ones). I reminded him by email to which he responded "I'm working through pictures now, I haven't gotten to those yet." A month passed, and I reminded him again. He said "Oh yeah! I'll send those later tonight." He never did. There are a million other options for photographers in Portland - I'd steer clear from Danger Ninja and Chelsea Christian. Just about anyone would be a better choice.

When I get there he tells me his camera is little messed up, that after every few pics, he would have to manually wind it. Well it did this "hick up" after every pic he tried to take. We decided at that point we should reschedule. I agreed and to make him feel better for his camera mishap I said that I wasn't too thrilled about my outfit anyway. He began to turn the tables on me by saying "that's what I thought, I can tell you don't want to be here" WHAT?! I said I was nervous, but I wanted to be there no matter what I was wearing! He went from being cool to total dick in a flip of a switch. Fast forward to him not responding to my text or calls about a reschedule. I decided to get my deposit back via pay pal. I got the vibe he was really depending on my shoot to fix what seemed to be his ONLY camera. I thought as a professional photographer, you have more than one camera?! He then tells me his "gear" breaks all the time and I was by far the worst reaction of such thing he had ever encountered in his 7 year career. So, you are telling me your shit breaks all the time and no one says anything about it? I dont have time to play his hipster " my way or the highway" bullshit. I was the customer, you were the PROFESSIONAL. You should definitely look up the meaning in the dictionary. And lastly, I was extremely nice to this guy and he tells me to " GO FUCK MYSELF" Real classy, Dan. Your services are sub par. When you figure out how to handle a situation and be a real professional let me know. Until then, good luck in your careeer?? If thats what you want to call it.
