Amazing food is an understatement for this cafe. This place was recommended by Melissa, who dropped…read moreus from Gleneagles. Customer service is way above par. We ordered the Halloumi Burger, Beyond Burger with sweet potatoes, New Yorker Panini (which was awesome) and the Padron Pil Pil (highly recommended). Service was top notch and everything was delicious. You should definitely give this place a try.

This is an AMAZING cafe!! I'm so glad we stopped there yesterday on the off-chance of a bit of…read morelunch and a coffee or two. It is obviously a very popular place and there wasn't even a free table at first. However, we didn't have long to wait and the lovely blonde lady with the big welcoming smile (who may have been the owner but I'm not sure) brought us a menu to read in the meantime. She and another member of staff served us during our meal and I have to say the service is second to none - really first class. There is just so much choice and really interesting, imaginative, meals and snacks too. Everything from sandwiches, salads, burgers and 'lite bites' to superb main meals and dreamy desserts; everything is presented beautifully. Large selection of soft drinks, herb and fruit infusions, excellent coffees, wine, beer and cider - just about anything you could wish for! I can personally recommend the exquisite grilled halloumi cheese and salad with balsamic dressing - utterly gorgeous!! The place is very clean - tables were cleared and wiped thoroughly as soon as they were vacated. The tables and chairs are chunky wood, there is a wooden floor as well. There are mini-spots set into the ceiling and framed articles from magazines praising the cafe on the walls. There's a full-size disabled toilet in addition to the usual ones - again, everything was spotlessly clean and looked after. We intend to return for an evening meal before long as we didn't have very long to linger yesterday. You can book a table in advance which is very helpful, the place being so popular! There is a free car park to the left of the cafe or you can park in the side street opposite.

And two reviews I'd read since had been anything but encouraging. The basic line: poor food, poor service and very expensive. But six months had passed since the last review and I didn't want my mother to eat alone during her Christmas Spa package. Sadly, we found nothing had changed. Things started well though. A very professional man from the coffee shop took us over. Somehow a highchair was already waiting for us and they whisked away my buggy. The decor is modern and the cherry coloured wood fittings lend a discreetly luxurious atmosphere, even if the overall impression in the sunken restaurant area is a little chilly. I wandered round the mini food hall with my toddler. The hams, meat and fish are on display and it smelt quite nice, although the look of the fish counter had me backing off early on and the meat wasn't enticing either. After quite a wait, we were told that the breadsticks were dairy free so my tired and hungry toddler could eat them. We then waited so long for the menus that my mother went up to get one. We grabbed a passing waiter to order a hastily chosen burger and chips for my boisterous toddler as it was guaranteed to keep him quiet. No vegetables seemed to come with it, and the waiter offered some salad but we chose peas. It too took a while coming. I expect a top quality burger to be moist and succulent, but this was tough. Given that it was a child's meal, it came on an absurdly hot plate. In contrast, in Wagamamas last week we noticed toddlers automatically get child friendly plastic cups. There were plenty of staff relative to the number of diners, but they didn't seem co-ordinated. We ordered our food after a long time, and tap water, which didn't arrive until our starters. We'd had to ask for it three times. We waited at least 35 minutes between arriving and our starters. You don't expect this, least of all in Gleneagles, especially when the starters are on the one hand melon and ham, and on the other, lettuce out of a packet with some beetroot. The rocket was missing from my mothers starter and the promised caramelised onions on my limp salad were barely cooked. It is never good when your tired toddler has almost finished his food before your main course has arrived. This was our predicament - avoidable had the menus come straightaway. I ordered fruit for him and a delicious plate of melon and berries duly arrived. Meanwhile, I tucked into the most dispiriting plate of pasta i have ever seen. Worse even than my Valvona experience. It looked like chilli flecked maggots with half a dozen insipid porcini mushrooms. I used some of the pesto from my mum's plate to liven it up. Meanwhile, she discovered her chicory was far too salty. Not bitter, as the chef later reported they could be, but unequivocally salty. Her salmon was virtually raw and so inedible she didn't even start it. At this point, we had had enough. One of the managers, Felicity, was fantastic. She had earlier brought crayons and paper for my son and now offered us new main courses but my mother was in a hurry and because i was hungry, i had eaten most of the maggots. Instead she brought us each a plate of the delicious fruit and I had a coffee. She took my little boy away for a walk so we could finish our meal in peace. We were not charged. Felicity said things had really changed since the reviews were written but the day we went there was sadly no evidence to support this. 10 out of 10 for complaint management. Food gets a one and that's because of the fruit.
