A great discussion and recommendation of the menu meant that I had the scallops to start and the belly pork as a main. Everything cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Not only that but my sweet, tender belly pork didn't need a knife as it just fell apart, and was huge! The place itself is made up of several little areas and they had a community dining set up where you share a giant table with other guests. I'm personally not normally a fan of this because I like my own space... But it worked well here as it added to the cost ambience. I could write a separate review on the range of gins and whiskey... But I'll just say, it's absolutely massive. We also tried some cocktails which again were wonderful. After eating our fill (and then finding room for pudding and some complimentary treats) we spent £65 on 3 courses each a one a few drinks. I have paid much much more before for a lot less. Well, I came to Perth, which is a small town in Scotland, and was convinced I wouldn't find anything healthy to eat. Alas, I stumbled upon Howie's Bistro and guess what? They offer gluten free / vegetarian options! They even have this vitamin Cola which is infused with herbs that I tried for the first time. It was delicious! My waitress was the sweetest! A young, 16 year old girl, who was so excited to hear that I was from LA. So cute. Ask for Zori if you go. And the owner, Craig, couldn't have been nicer. He even gave me a book of Scotland that had been left behind and been sitting at his restaurant for awhile. He may not be giving out anymore books if you check it out, but he will definitely welcome you with a smile!

The menu is adventurous and authentic, with specials that include the likes of frog's legs. It is a joy to find a restaurant that doesn't kowtow to local tastes but instead does what it says on the culinary tin. The chef really knows his stuff and delivers bold, rich, FRENCH flavours that melt in your mouth. But be forewarned--the portions are also authentic. A bit smaller than what you might normally find in a Scottish restaurant. But as French food is swimming in fat, that's probably a good thing. For the mains, he ordered a burger with haggis on it, which came with chips and I ordered the gourmet chili dog, without jalapenos which also came with chips. We also ordered onion rings to share, which I thought were pretty gross. They reminded me of the frozen ones you can get out of Morrisons that are basically minced onion in a battered ring. Yick. They had one of my favourite ciders available (spiced apple) and we also had a voucher for a fiver off, just for joining their email on their website.
