Long overdue review! Dr. Do is an incredibly knowledgeable periodontist who truly cares for his patients, is so detail oriented in his work, and will patiently take the time to answer patient questions (I had a lot!). I am not local so flew into town to get my teeth evaluated + my gums grafted.....he proved to totally be worth the effort as the level of care he provided truly is exceptional. I've gotten multiple gum grafts previously from three other periodontists. Dr. Do's work not only provided the most coverage, but it held up the best and he was able to gain a teeny bit of height!! My previous understanding is that it was impossible to gain and maintain increased gum height. It was a lengthy procedure as Dr. Do took on the challenge of performing the graft on the lingual side (challenging angle to see in the first place) and I had scar tissue that made it harder to graft. During this time, Dr. Do was laser focused, maintained communication so I was aware of what he was working on, and checked in through out to ensure I was not in pain or didn't need a break. I cannot recommend Dr. Do enough and only wish I had someone like him for all my other medical needs! read more

Board Certified, a big deal when it comes to looking for a Periodontist or other Specialist....my opinion. I had all uppers taken out about 5 months ago as over a long time, extensive bridgework was failing. My regular Dentist is fine for the 'normal stuff,' and he had recommended the Oral Surgeon who did removal. Afterwards, neither gave me much confidence in their expertise when my gums did not seem to be healing. Quite frankly, the whole process was way more invasive and slow healing than I anticipated. After research, I made an appointment with Dr. Ho....he emailed me necessary medical history type, was quite amenable when I screwed that up a bit. Appointment was very solid, both he and his assistant were great. They actually listened while I conveyed my 'story.' He did a very comprehensive exam, took a large # of photos and took a lot of time in explaining his findings. He also gave me some small 'cleaning utensil' type brushes to help in daily brushing. He said the whole process can take a year before the gums, jaw etc. are fully functional....and I was progressing nicely. I came away feeling like all my questions and worries were addressed...that was very important. Dr. Do is the best dentist! He has excellent skills in treating my teeth. His treatments were so effective that my teeth became healthy, and no longer inflamed or hurt. I had a tooth that was in bad condition because it was loose and swollen. I went to other dentists previously, and they all suggested me to do extraction that I must remove my tooth as the only treatment option. Luckily, I am glad that I can maintain all my natural teeth without extraction, thanks to Dr. Do's excellent knowledge and skills in treating my teeth. Like another reviewer, I do not live locally. I was particularly impressed by Dr. Do's knowledge and desire to educate the patient. (None of the other periodontists I had seen had tried to educate regarding the state of the mouth or ways to improve/maintain that state.) I didn't know it at the time, but January 12th was a very lucky day for me; it was the day I was referred to Dr. Do!! I am terrified of dental work, terrified to my socks. To complicate matters, I have several serious medical conditions that need to be accommodated. During Covid, my dental health went precipitously downhill. By the time it felt safe to return for dental care, I was in real pain. If skill is acquired and talent is inborn, then Dr. Do is both skilled and talented. His hands are strong, sure, gentle, and dexterous. His scholarship is notable and his techniques and equipment are state of the art. He has an artistic eye, and sees form and shape; the result is work with smooth lines. Very nice bonus! Dr. Do sent me an article, appropriate to my ability to understand, about periodontal outcomes, proof of his commitment to educate his patients. The more I know, the better my dental health. I had minimal worries about Covid, their hygiene and sanitation are impeccable. Cut to the chase...Dr. Do scaled, cleaned and planed my teeth, all four quadrants. I am happy to say that 24 hours after the procedure, I feel less dental pain from inflammation than when I first darkened the good doctor's doorway. Complete healing is ahead, I didn't get here in a day, but the feeling of having a healthier mouth was immediate and is beyond marvelous. Dr. Do is the BEST. If you want something done at the highest level and with the most attention to detail go to him. I knocked my front tooth out when I was a child and just recently broke the old crown. When other doctors said it would be months of repair, or bc it was a front tooth they would not take the case, and that I may never have a natural smile line again, I was devastated. I was referred to Dr.Do by 2 other doctors. I am so glad I went. He did the whole procedure in one day. Retrofitted my original crown so I didn't have to go without a front tooth for months while the implant healed and was able to do a gum graph the same day. It looks amazing! I was referred to Dr. Do by my friend, who recommended him to me when I told her I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed soon. My first impression of him over text as we were setting up my appointment was a positive one. He handled matters professionally, but his reassuring and laidback personality made it so that it was never difficult to talk to him or ask questions, regardless of how self-explanatory they may have seemed. His concern for his patients is clear, as he recommended that I come in for two seperate sessions to get my wisdom teeth removed as my insurance would be able to cover more of the cost. It shows that he cares about more than just your physical health, which is always a plus in my book! My first impression was that his private clinic was spacious and very well-kept, and that he had a very friendly demeanor and enjoyed getting to know his patients and cracking little jokes here and there. The process of getting out my lower wisdom teeth took longer than expected, as they'd grown into the bone and extraction was hence more difficult. Although there was a great deal of pressure, the anesthetics he gave me numbed any actual pain. The second time I came was to remove my upper wisdom teeth and get my teeth cleaned. It turned out I needed to brush my gums more. He taught me how to brush better, and even gave me a specialized soft-bristled toothbrush designed for just that purpose. The wisdom teeth extraction was a lot faster this time around. It was actually a bit painful too, but he later told me that I could've asked for more anesthetics. Whoops! Personally, I'm a very curious person, which means I ask a ton of questions. However, he answered each one in detail, and never got impatient. I never felt rushed, even though I felt a bit of guilt over asking for breaks during the extractions when the pressure became a bit overwhelming. He was always considerate, and constantly asked how I was faring during the entire operation. After both procedures, he gave very detailed instructions on how to maintain proper oral hygiene. A few hours and a few days after each surgery, he texted me to inquire about my well-being and see how the healing process was going. Overall, he's an amazing periodontist. Not only is he an expert at what he does, but he treats each patient with a great deal of consideration and patience. read more

Dr. Do truly cares to achieve the best result when taking care of you. I came into Dr. Do's office with a copy of my 3D xrays to get my two wisdom teeth extracted. He started off first with a consult where he explained to me in very simple terms the process involved in taking out my wisdom teeth as well as the risks. This was then followed by taking a few additional xrays for me, a full set of intraoral pictures, and a full mouth evaluation of my gum health. After that he recommended that I get a deep cleaning as I had some localized calculus with deep pockets and inflammation in my gums. He explained that taking care of these spots would facilitate in faster healing of my extraction sites so I agreed to the treatment. Dr. Do was very efficient, thorough, and fast in my treatment and I was pleased with my experience. He later called me that day to check up on how I was doing after the treatment and I thought that was very caring of him to do so as well. Just had a whole mouth deep cleaning with Dr. Do, after two that were not so good at another office. Of course I didn't know how so-so they were until I had a skilled periodontist do it. Wow! Last year I was in the process of choosing a specialist for my complicated bone graft and implant situation. My dentist pressured me to go with another (much more expensive) specialist but I met with Dr. Do as well. I was impressed by his thorough suggestions and amazing bedside manner. I found Dr. Do to be friendly, professional and meticulously thorough over several months of working with him. I felt at ease and always confident regarding his skillful care. Dr. Do is a phenomenal periodontist who not only provides the best of healthcare to his patients, but also, the education and knowledge needed to maintain oral health. He is patient, caring and demonstrates impeccable skills in periodontal procedures. When first meeting with Dr. Do, I was greeted by a homey office that was clean, peaceful and quiet. Furthermore, he works with his clients on an appointment basis, and provides his patients with his complete attention during consultations. Such attention is much appreciated, since he uses the patient-doctor time to fully educate his patients about the status of their oral health and about the proper ways to brush and maintain oral cleanliness. He usually starts a new consultation by taking pictures of the teeth, and showing patients the issues with their teeth that are usually not spottable. From his images, he gives a thorough diagnosis of symptoms, including tooth decay and bacterial build up, and explains the steps to resolving such issues. He also takes time to educate his patients on the proper method to brush teeth. He uses a tooth brush and personally shows his patients the proper brushing technique, and allows his patients to demonstrate afterwards to ensure that they have fully grasped the proper method. I recently underwent a gum recession restoration procedure and Dr. Do was able to successfully graft tissue and restore the recession. At first, I was very nervous to undergo my first surgery, but throughout the process, he made sure I was feeling well throughout the procedure and not experiencing any pain. The procedure took about a two hours, and throughout the procedure, I felt little to no pain, which definitely demonstrated his expertise in his practice. Afterwards, he showed me pictures and videos of the procedure, which I was very interested by as a pre-dental student myself. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Do if you are need of retention, diagnosis, or treatment of periodontal disease. He also performs implant procedures and wisdom teeth extractions, which are two highly requested procedures amongst patients. Dr. Do has been tremendous to work with, and I can't recommend him highly enough. We met when I was referred by my dentist, in need of oral surgery. The options were to extract and replace a tooth, or undergo a procedure called crown lengthening. The extraction would have been about twice the price of the crown lengthening (and not covered by my insurance), would have been more invasive, required more visits and a longer recovery time. Dr. Do had the experience and expertise to perform the crown lengthening to save the tooth, and save me a lot of money, time, and I'm sure, discomfort. He has a very gentle manner, is extremely professional, and is unbelievably thorough in his preparation, treatment, and communication with patients. His credentials as a professor at UCLA made my decision for a procedure and a surgeon very easy to make... then, I decided to ask him if he could be my regular dentist for routine cleanings and maintenance, and he willingly accepted that request! I can't say enough good things about Dr Do. I found him on Yelp during the pandemic when I was tired of going thru the same old mamby pamby treatments from my regular dentist and his periodontist. I have about 7 old implants that have been infected for about 15 yrs and my previous dentists & specialists could never cure. I lived out of state for a few years so I also went to different dental specialists there with no good results. Besides cleaning my teeth better than anyone, Dr Do told me that he suspected that the cement used with my implants & crowns was the culprit of my long term infections. I had to have one implant removed and Dr Do used a state of the art treatment (can't remember what it's called) by spinning my blood cells & using the white blood cells to help the wound heal faster. I was so fortunate to be cared by Dr. Do five years ago in his first year as graduate resident in UCLA Postgraduate Periodontics and Implant Surgery Clinic. My long-developed periodontitis was so severe that my general dentist of five years referred me to the UCLA Periodontics Specialty Clinic. To my most 5-6 mm-deep pocketed and bleeding whenever touched gum, Dr. Do performed four surgical procedures on root-planing over a period of two months. Dr. Do followed up closely by recalling me back to the clinic every three months for deep cleaning and maintenance. In additional to the procedures, Dr. Do patiently taught me numerous times the correct oral hygiene, the use of tools (rubber tipper simulator and in-between brush) for daily homework. At the end of his 3-year training, I had almost complete normal gum with most pockets of 2-3 mm depth and no bleeding. He is the best graduate resident in that training program owing to his broad knowledge, sharp skills, and tendering patient care, and the passion for profession. He keeps staying in the clinic room now as a clinic professor to teach new residents and dental students. I can't begin to say enough good things about Dr. Do. He was recommended to me by my dentist after a failed attempt at a bone graft in my jaw. Frustrated and nervous about having to go thru the process a second time, I met with Dr. Do for a consultation. At first, I was a little thrown off by how young he is, but I'm so happy that I didn't let that deter me from having him proceed. In a word..."AWESOME." I was referred to this office by a friend who told me how great Dr. Do is. I decided to give it a try after learning he got his training at UCLA and is currently teaching there. I'm so glad I went there because he very thorough. To start with he took detailed pictures of my mouth. These were useful because he was able to show me my trouble areas. He then took the time to explain to me how I should be brushing and flossing and also gave me some useful tools. He also spent a good amount of time on my cleaning. I did not feel like he was rushing or trying to sell me things like other places do. Dr. Do is the type of dentist that really cares about his patients and wants to them have great oral health.
