We booked Jonathan for a maternity photoshoot while we were visiting Kauai, and we are so happy that we did! He is extremely talented and has great knowledge of the island. We were relying on his location and timing suggestions entirely since we were not familiar with Kauai. We told him some general types of landscapes we wanted, and he knew exactly where to take us. Jonathan took our engagement photos when we were on a trip to Kauai. They were so gorgeous and romantic, everything you'd want your engagement photos to be. He was very good at directing me and my then-boyfriend with posing and positioning. An incredible talent- able to make two extremely awkward people look naturally graceful. He even suggested a cool place to go have breakfast after our sunrise shoot. A few months later, it was time for me to choose our wedding photographer. I knew I wanted Jonathan to take them since he already did such an amazing job with our engagement photos, but I was afraid that travel costs and such (our wedding was to be on Maui and not Kauai) would make Jonathan further out of our budget. I saw the portfolios of a few other photographers and was so bored with the same muted, vintage, pastel-toned styles I was seeing. Yuck. Just so frou- frou and annoyingly dainty. Just made me want to punch someone in the face. Jonathan's style was exactly what I wanted- bold and dream-like, dramatic and intrepid! I knew it had to be Jonathan. I was so happy when I saw his wedding packages. His prices were very competitive (even if he had to travel to another island WITH a second photographer!) and luckily for me I already knew he was super talented. He stayed in touch in the days leading up to our wedding and really made me feel like he was going to be prepared. One of the things he does is asks you who are some people he should pay close attention to on your wedding day. I did answer this question but I didn't think it through. I missed out on getting some pictures of my good friend singing in the church during our ceremony. I should have mentioned that she was actually my good friend and not just a cantor. On our wedding day, Jonathan brought along a second photographer (I'm pretty sure his name was Michael) who was incredibly warm and such a sweetheart. Both of them were very enthusiastic and made me feel like they were capturing all of the important moments. We were even able to go to some rocky cliffs and a tree-lined street after the ceremony for some shots of just me and my husband. We got some epic shots near the ocean and in front of the sunset! During the reception, I actually received several comments from my guests. They were very impressed with how many pictures were being taken. Our wedding was almost 5 months ago so this review is overdue, but even now, the buzz over our wedding photos is still going strong. We have several canvas and metal prints on our walls and we gave some to our parents as gifts (included in Jonathan's wedding package!). We have a huge leather-bound wedding album (also included!) and we were able to give two mini-versions of the album- one to my parents and the other to my husband's parents- also included in the package! We got a slideshow that we screened at our house warming parties and we have USB drives with all the photos- a high-res version for print and low-res for the web. I love showing off our photos on Facebook. Since we bought a deluxe wedding package, everything we needed was included. So easy! Our wedding day was awesome, but it came and went. Our photos however, are going to last forever. I am so glad we had the best photographer to capture the day for us. If you choose Jonathan, you do not have to compromise. You get professionalism, quality, and value all at once. Like, my wedding dress was amazing, but it cost a fortune and then a part of it started poking me in the side by the end of the night. The food was amazing, but we ate it all and now it's all gone. The open bar + dance floor was amazing but the booze is gone and the music stopped. We were long overdue for some family pictures and decided to take advantage of beautiful Kauai. I scoured the interweb for the best wedding photo portfolio when I was planning my wedding. I live in CA and planning a wedding from afar is no easy task... I have a fine eye for photography and I literally looked at EVERY wedding photographer's website on Kauai and had booked another girl who ended up cancelling on me 6 months out. Well her cancelling turned out to be a blessing in disguise because that's how I came across Jonathan's portfolio... I was immediately WOWED by what I saw. His photos were truly amazing... they showed off the beauty that is Kauai's landscape without over photoshopping. Too many of the other photogs overdo the retouching and the pics look too fake. From the moment I contacted him to inquire about his services, the client care was top notch. He was super fast in responding to every email/call, detailed in explaining his packages, and was just super helpful all around. I wondered why I hadn't come across his page before, and later found out that around the time I was doing my research he was relaunching his site and didn't have it up. SO HAPPY that I found it when I did... it must have been meant to be. We met with him a few days before the wedding when we got to Kauai and let me say... his communication is ON POINT. I would certainly recommend Jonathan for your wedding/honeymoon/engagement/family photo shoots. He has a good eye for capturing the beauty of Kauai. Having looked at basically every photographer on the island and getting quotes, I can say that everyone on the island prices their packages pretty similarly. No one is much more or much less expensive than JM. We took the package of 25 photos with a 45 minute shoot on Hanalei. I asked a bunch of my photographer friends if the pricing was good and they said it definitely was fair (even accounting for a Hawaii premium). We both had a lot of fun with Jonathan and enjoyed the shoot. He gave me a few minutes to change my outfit and took into account the types of photos I said I wanted to get. We've already made two of the photos into 16x20 canvases and I'm sure we'll be printing more of them. He's a really sweet guy and super easy to work with, even if both of you aren't terribly photogenic. read more

We were headed to Kauai to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday, and I thought it would be nice to have family photos taken. I dabble in photography, so I happen to have strong opinions about what a 'good' photo should look like. I like a mix of candid and staged shots, well-lit, and well-composed. It's a short list, but very few photographers achieve photos like this consistently, without over-editing. Jonathan is quite the exception - I snuck looks of his shots throughout the session, and they were beautiful right out of the camera. His lighting is PERFECT and he was great in directing the family (all eight of us) to achieve beautiful photos. Most impressive was his talent in "5-year-old wrangling", as my youngest son isn't the most cooperative subject. We emailed for a couple of months prior to our session, and he was always prompt and professional in his responses. He also goes above and beyond to accommodate clients, which was much appreciated. On the day of our session, it was pouring rain, and I could not convince the majority of my family to get ready and show up, regardless of the weather. I called Jonathan in a panic thirty minutes before the session, and although I could tell that he was a bit disappointed at the last-minute request, he offered to meet us the next morning, when the weather cleared. We just received the photos a few days ago, and Jonathan did not disappoint. They are beautiful, and will be framed and looked at for years to come. Recently worked with Jonathan Moeller on Kauai's north shore for our 10 year vow renewal, recommended among a number of photographers by Alli Kauai wedding coordinators. We chose Jonathan after spending extensive time looking over all 5 photographers, and chose Jonathan for his unique style, artistry, and fine tuning of light as evidenced by his work on his website. I could tell by his work that he would be able to capture us at our best, as we are both camera/attention shy (my husband hates photos of himself!). We also chose him because our close friends chose him for their family/maternity photos, and they have great taste (their pictures turned out amazing as well!) Jonathan was a joy to work with, super mellow and easy going, and able to direct/guide us for the perfect photos. AMAZING!!!! Jonathan captured so many great pictures of our family on vacation in Hawaii! My sister-in-law actually found him based on yelp reviews. We looked at a few photographers, but we all liked Jonathan's Facebook page and the pictures he posted there. I am so happy that we had him capture our family photos! There were 11 of us total....including a 2 year old, two 7 year olds, an 11 & 15 year old, two sets of parents & grandparents! Well, nothing that dramatic happened to me with my dress (though I did like it), but I DID experience that moment when I came across Jonathan Moeller's portfolio. There's a difference between normal wedding photography and what Jonathan does. If you read about him on his website (...which I did, in length), you'll learn that he has a background in photojournalism. Shortly after getting engaged, my fiancé, Justin, and I decided we wanted to make our engagement pictures just as special and unique as possible. Holy Moly!!! I never expected when I asked this young man to take some engagement photos for us, because 'I liked his work' that 195 out of 204 photos would be awesome. My fiancée and I are 55 and 45, but we look like we're in our 30's, but even better than that is the way Jonathan packaged our photos into a personal video to view.
