We booked Jonathan to photograph our wedding for March 20, 2020. For us the photographs were the most important part of our wedding . We didn't want the "cookie cutter" or "prom posed" wedding photographs. We went with Jonathan because of his photo journalistic eye. He knows how to capture a moment in the most stunning, pure, unfiltered way. In our first meeting, we found him to be kind, genuine and curious as we pestered him with questions about his photography background and style. That wedding was postponed and reconfigured to meet COVID demands, reducing the guest list from 120 to 14. Jonathan was the photographer for our wedding and absolutely blew us away with his work. His photos are so gorgeous and perfectly captured the best weekend of our lives. We did a two-night wedding party on the Oregon coast, and Jonathan covered both days and both nights to make sure we had the perfect documentation of our weekend. He picked out the perfect spots for shots after the ceremony, and worked hard to get us in the best light filtering through the trees as we did a little post-ceremony hike in the rainforest. Wow, is the best place to start. We worked with Jonathan to photograph a Field Day Event for our 5th grade Elementary classes. We had about 75 fast moving parts and I believe Jonathan captured multiple amazing pictures for everyone there. Jonathan was fantastic. He is extremely talented, flexible, professional and simply a wonderful person- which matters a lot when it comes to one of the most important (and often stressful) days of your life. I was SO overwhelmed and busy (planed the whole 175 person wedding myself) that I felt so blessed to have someone so on time, on his game, and not phased by what was going on at all. There was plenty of Chaos; I was all over the place, but he set up his shots, he worked the lighting around wherever I was running around too, and yet he was so pleasant, I never felt like I was being asked to do anything. We had such a big event; we actually had him bring a second photographer, we'd met Jonathan before but not his partner- so I was a litter nervious- I should have given him more credit, he is so talented and professional that his team was just as incredible. Jonathan did a fantastic job of blending into what was going on, I sort of wanted the photographers and videographers to stay in the background so that I could remember my day and not a lot of being bossed around- they were perfect. He organized the group shots when it was time to do that, but other than that he moved with the event, he just seemed to always be in position for whatever was happening. I honestly don't remember him for 1/2 of the wedding, but somehow he got every shot. Personally: He is so polite and well mannered, nothing seemed to jostle him. It only took seconds to set up the portrait shots. We didn't want anything to look overly posed where people were being forced to smile, so he kept it light and fast, the shots turned out exactly how we wanted. Overall: I loved him- and hope to use him again in the future for anything I can come up with. The Packages: We had two photographers for the extended amount of time (I strongly recommend the extra time- you get the most interesting photos as the night goes on...) We ordered the engagement session, and one of the gorgeous leather bound books. The book was a big item for us, I work in advertising and so am very meticulous about layouts- I was worried about this. But what he did was amazing and he worked with me when I had suggestions, he switched out shot after shot to get it perfect. I gave the book to my husband as a Christmas present and my whole family cried. Our photos are so incredible, they are truly art, which we proudly show off. read more

Random rain and thunderstorms were rolling through LA in May, and on Saturday, May 11th, Jonathan calmed the weather gods and captured the most amazing pix of our wedding at the Annenberg Community Beach House on the beach in Santa Monica. We spent a TON of time looking at different wedding photographer's websites, and getting discouraged by all the boring and frankly oftentimes cheesy shots we were seeing. They all looked the same. Then my husband remembered that his sister in Spokane had hired someone with a photojournalism background, and after a few seconds of googling we found the Wedding Photojournalist Association's website, where we subsequently found Jonathan. We hired Jonathan to do a beloved (engagement) shoot and to capture our wedding. We are so, so happy with the images from both! He has a special talent for capturing action and emotion as they occur in the moment, rather than contriving them and snapping away, which anyone with an expensive camera could do. Ok, maybe I'm not giving the more traditional wedding photographers out there enough credit. I'm sure I'm not. All I'm saying is that what you get from Jonathan will be truly special. He will get those moments you want to remember (I think his work as a sports photographer really helps in this regard). When I was reviewing his portfolio online, some of the photos actually brought tears to my eyes. All of the brides looked so beautiful because of the happiness and love he captured in their expressions, their body language, etc. Grooms too of course :) And you won't notice him at all while he's doing it. Some of the photos we got I was like, "Jonathan was there for that?!" On the business end of things: Jonathan is extremely communicative, responsive, and flexible (we were 45 minutes late to our original beloved shoot appointment due to LA traffic, and he was incredibly understanding and insistent that we reschedule so we could get the best light, rather than do a less than stellar job that day). He shows up right on time. He conducts his business professionally. His prices are very reasonable compared to the market. Jonathan is more of an artist; he will only give you the images he thinks are good. That means you won't get 2,000 photos. He won't guarantee you how many. But we got hundreds and hundreds - so you really don't need to worry about not getting enough. And honestly in my opinion his screening is a real value-added service. My sister got married the year before me, and she had to go through 1,200 photos and pick out the best ones herself. Jonathan has a much better eye for that kind of thing! For our wedding, picking the photographer was one of the more difficult tasks. One told me I needed to lose weight and another cancelled after we had confirmed him. So when we came across Jonathan, I was a bit skeptical. Jonathan's work is outstanding!! He shot our destination wedding in New Orleans a few weeks ago and we are in love with all our pictures!
