My husband and I booked Heather for what was supposed to be an August 2020 wedding. Well, yadda yadda yadda, things didn't quite go to plan. Heather was so beyond flexible and accommodating with us as our date changed and changed again, and hung on with us until 2022 when we finally were able to have our special day on April 9th. It was a pleasure working with Heather and Christine for our wedding in December! The photos are beautifully shot and of an extremely professional quality. I'm completely blown away at how incredible my wife and my proposal photos turned out. So I called Heather on a Tuesday, literally three days before I was to propose. My wife and I recently had our first child and had family from out of town visiting to meet the little guy. Heather was the Assistant Photographer for my sister's wedding in 2011, and we all were really impressed with her pictures so when I wanted to take some photos with my boyfriend, I definitely wanted to go with Heather. Heather is absolutely amazing! I missed the newborn photos with my first born and regretted it immensely. With my second born, I did not want to miss the chance to do newborn photos. Heather DeCamp is a fabulous, amazing photographer. Be forewarned - everything after this is just gushing. We found Heather through a photographer through a photographer through a photographer through a photographer. SERIOUSLY. We got engaged 3 months before our wedding date, so despite wanting a dream wedding, I had only a short time to pull it off. I have a grade school friend who is a well-known wedding photographer, and despite initially being free the day we planned, when I called him to finalize details, he said he'd been booked. Then, he had the audacity to ask if we'd like to change the date of our wedding. No, thanks! So, after using his recommendations (I still liked his style...) for other photographers (both booked), I had to run down their suggestions, and then those suggestions' recommendations, etc. Finally, we stumbled upon Heather DeCamp. I checked out her website, and I thought, "No way is this girl going to be free that day..." followed quickly by, "I probably couldn't afford her anyhow". But, photography is our #1 priority in budget (after getting married itself, of course!), so we were willing to be flexible. From the get-go, Heather was so friendly and flexible, it was amazing. (She was also $1000 LESS expensive than my original choice!!) Did I mention that I was planning this wedding in Chicago from San Francisco? So when I called her, not only did we sign a contract, but we did our engagement session within a week of chatting. (Because we only had so much time we were in town to plan.) Our engagement photos turned out beautifully, and we were starting to feel much more excited that our wedding photos would be equally lovely. The day of, Heather and her assistant showed up on time, snapping pictures, minimally telling us what to do (I appreciate that), and generally, making us feel comfortable. Now, both my husband and myself are tall people, as are most of our family. Heather and her assistant were probably each pushing 5 ft - but I think this totally worked in their favor. They got so many sneaky awesome candids, because no one ever seemed to see them around! Our photos came back and we had over 700 beautiful memories. It's so hard to choose between them (not that we had to - Heather gives you free digitals of all the keepers) for our album! So I completely forgot that I had posted on here when we where just meeting with Heather. I wanted to give a more comprehensive summation to our experience using her as a photographer. To be quite frank, she was incredible. When the day of our wedding rolled around, the place where we were supposed to be taking photos was also going to be filming Transformers 4 during the morning (yeah I want to see that crap fest.....not). On top of that, our trolley was 40 minutes late picking my wife up, the wedding party, family, etc. Heather was up to the task and prepared for anything. She took time out of her morning to scope out where pictures were taken and found out that the shooting would be done by then. She did not need to do that but the extra effort spoke volumes. In addition, she had a tight schedule planned for the "picture shoots" so she easily got us back on schedule and to the church with plenty of time to spare (we actually ended up being ahead of schedule and had to circle the block a couple times before the trolley dropped us off). The most important and glowing review I can give Heather though is that she is a damn good photographer. Her knowledge of the surrounding Chicago-land area and how light will be affected in certain areas at certain times of the day is what a professional should be like. Not to mention she is one of the most outgoing and funny people you will ever meet. Every time my wife and I met with her, it was like we were meeting with an old friend to discuss general topics and just hang out. I do not want to bash other photographer outfits but the very idea that there is someone better at their job, more outgoing/friendly, organized, and efficient is truly hard to believe. If I could put 10 stars on here I would, I 100% advise anyone considering photography for weddings or any other event to sit down with Heather.
