    Temple Tuesday!
    Haley N.

I love the temple! And this one specifically is beautiful. The temple grounds are stunning and make for a great place to either walk around with your eternal boo or take a seat and study the scriptures by yourself. Anyone of any age, gender, religion, can spend time on the temple grounds--I'd suggest doing that if you have a chance. Take the time to open yourself up to God and ask if you're on a path that he'd have you be. Only worthy members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who have a temple recommend can go inside. But feel free to ask about the work that is done there, members and missionaries are more than happy to discuss! If you are not a member of the church, you can attend the temple open houses. This church is consistently building temples and for a few months before it is dedicated to The Lord, anyone can walk through and see the beautiful rooms and paintings, it's truly a place where you can feel God's Spirit. TIPS & TRICKS: * This link should take you to a website that tells about all the current temple open houses--all over the world! https://www.lds.org/temples/open-houses * There is a family of geese that live near this temple... so if you park by their nest, get your running shoes on, as they WILL chase you. * If you have any questions about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, feel free to contact the missionaries in your area. They are happy to help, because, well, we are a happy people :)

If you are in a rush and need to go to the temple, this is a great location! Sessions go every twenty minutes and the workers are good at making sure that you get in sessions. I think these gardens are some of the most beautiful out of all the temples. Their spring tulips were breathtaking.

Maybe this isn't my first choice in architecture, but it's interesting for the eyes. There are a handful of LDS temples in the Salt Lake Valley, and besides the ever-stoic Salt Lake Temple, this is the next oldest. Old doesn't mean decrepit, though. LDS temples are notoriously well-maintained, and this one is not exception. The grounds are simple--this is a more utilitarian place--but have meticulously kept flowerbeds and grass. As a side note, I once mowed the lawn here. Long story. But that's when I discovered that they keep bees in the northwest corner of the parking lot. Or at least they did. I digress. As with all LDS temples, you need to be a member of the faith to actually enter the building. There is no visitors center at this location, so you'll want to head down to Temple Square if you're curious about more temple stuff.

The phone number on the web site is wrong. Is someone afraid of getting covid over the phone?

The first amazing surprise is there was no entry fee! We entered the garden and quickly ran into another surprise- a human-sized chess board! My boys wanted to play a game against each other...didn't know it was going to take 45mins...but it was fun to sit and watch and listen to the birds chirping. We then continued our tour around the grounds and saw many wonderful plants, trees, bushes, flowers and more. The grounds are beautifully manicured! There some educational areas where you can learn more about irrigation, landscaping and design. To walk around the garden takes about 30mins, but we spent 1.5hrs here as we took a lot of pictures and asked some questions from the workers. The workers and volunteers were very gracious to answer our questions and teach us more about the garden. You can tell they love their job and they love visitors. At the end of the tour, I made sure to drop a little cash in their donation box. Thanks Conservation Garden Park for the great time!

They have great visual exhibits, labelling placards, and fun interactive activities. 10/10 worth the stop, and I can't believe this place is free to the public. We stopped in here to take some casual iPhone photos as a family since we don't see eachother everyday. (Photography requires a $10 pass) It was the perfect backdrop for what we were doing, and we had a great time exploring the gardens through the park along the way.

Has a trail to run around or walk your pets, stunning views of the mountains, clean bathrooms, and water play! The playground supports a tube slide and a regular slide, two regular swings, two special swings with over the top bars like the ones on roller fosters, plenty of benches and shade, and lots of trees! It's tucked behind Tuscany and The Cotton Bottom. Check this park out!

Whether you're talking about the Holliday-engraved pillar at the intersection of Holladay Boulevard…read moreand 6200 South, or the ritzy area of Holliday, Knudsen's Corner is an interesting local spot. What surprised me about the Knudsen's Corner pillar is there's no history or information about it. It's definitely prominent, the engravings are beautiful, and it's a beautiful mix of brick and granite. However, it sits alone in the center-island intersection as the heavy traffic whizzes by. Also at Knudsen's Corner is the least divey dive bar in the history of mankind, The Cotton Bottom Inn, and the upscale Italian restaurant, Tuscany. People also refer to the whole area as Knudsen Park. As far as I'm concerned, only the Avenues can compete with the mansions and near-mansions found here. Definitely a gawker's paradise. The good news for people in the area is the neighborhood is awaiting the new 8-acre, $2.7 million restoration of Knudsen Park, which hopefully will add some beauty and gravitas to the pillar...and the area.

You know what the real nightmare on 13th is? The amount of time you spend waiting in line, only to be swindled in, back to back with other patrons through the haunt. Enter Dead City, a relatively new haunt (within the past couple of years) that serves as the antidote to Nightmare on 13th. As usual, I really only knock stars because I wish the hands on experience was a bit more intense, but I get it, Dead City is brand new and probably not eager to get a lawsuit. No pun intended, there is a little bit of "dead space" where it's a bit thematically dull, and the scares are in short supply. But my God, when these people scare you they SCARE you. I came on Halloween, and I don't know if it was the last day of the season or what, but those actors were insane. Lots of rooms are really creative, and the end is essentially a maze. Where the actors will not help you out just to rush you along. Last night we went for "Krampus" night, which was festive as all get out. It was essentially a 2 for 1 experience. You got to have some scares, and see some Christmas lights. What's a word for something that's both fantastic and terrifying at the same time? Nonetheless, loved the creativity. As far as I know, they're the first of the haunts to ever do anything like this, and hopefully they make it a tradition. See ya'll next year!
