Came to this location after a terrible experience at another store down the road. We called ahead to make sure they could complete the fitting and they said to come over and Jo appointment was required. Matt met us as we entered the store and was very professional, friendly and knew exactly what he was doing. He knew the products and was able to help us select multiple rentals for an upcoming event. The selection was great and the prices were reasonable. There was no pressure to buy unnecessary items. Definitely recommend this place and make sure to work with Matt. Don't let his young age fool you, he knows what he is doing. read more

DISAPPOINTED is an understatement!!! The day before my daughter's big day the grooms' men and other people in the wedding wearing tuxes went to try on their tuxes that were measured in ADVANCE for the big day The tuxes were a disaster and the grooms as WELL. Some had to go to Mens warehouse to get a seamstress to fix things. My dad's tux vest DIDNT arrive! He didn't have it for the wedding! (unacceptable) it WAS A TERRIBLE stressful experience. Horrible experience at this store. We came in to look at suit rental options for my fiancé. Our first encounter with an employee at the door was extremely awkward. They were rude and made us feel stupid. They got all of the contact info for us and our wedding party before even showing us options or talking to us about options. One employee was nice, but overall the experience was terrible and I would not recommend this location to anyone. No offer to help or anything. They have a large range of sizes ( I'm 16 36-37, so it's hard to find) I would have spent some money here, but the service was non existent. Came in to get a suit with a wedding group number and they ended up giving me the wrong color suit. Didn't realize it until the day of the wedding when all the other groomsmen had a different color suit than I did. Called the store and they realized their mistake. I was trying to ignore the negative reviews already posted about this location in Charlottesville. However they where right. Poor attitudes and the old bait and switch scheme. The only reason they where willing to drop the price was me being upset. They should have sold the suit at the advertised price. They make you feel as if they are doing you a favor. Walked in, we are nicely dressed middle-aged couple - looked at things all over the store, no one greeted us or offered to help. One salesperson even walked past us to throw a package on the floor near the front door for pickup, made eye contact but no attempt to engage. We have been customers in the past but this was a real off-putting experience. They should walk around to a nearby clothing store to learn how to handle customers. read more

Ordered suit and sportcoat in late August to be delivered to this store and was told my order would be at the store by last Friday. When I called on Saturday the clerk had to ask my name three times, still got it wrong (even though it is a common name), he could not find the order, and he had no idea how to look it up using my name. I then logged in to my Jos Bank online account and there was no record of my order even though I had a confirmation number. So I called customer service and was not even placed on hold -- I received a recording saying they would call me back and they hung up. They didn't take a message or ever call me back. I then used their online chat and after fifteen minutes of waiting their customer service rep said my order was in the store. She had no idea why they had not called to let me know it had arrived or why it was almost a week late, but offered me some "reward points" that could be redeemed for gift certificates in October. Then after twenty-five minutes she announced that my order might not actually be in the store after all but that she would call the manager to find out what was going on and then email me right away. She did not. I then sent an email canceling my order, explaining this utter train wreck, and asking for a simple businesslike confirmation that my order has been canceled. I have heard nothing back and no one picks up the phone at their customer service number. I now must go and dispute the charge with my credit card company. I was a Jos Bank customer for 32 years but their acquisition by Mens Wearhouse seems to have been the end of what had been a company with great customer service. The remarkable thing is that absolutely none of their mechanisms for customer service worked: not the store staff, not the customer service number, not the online chat, not the online account, not the email. They have lost another customer. read more

I just finished up with what will likely be my last transaction at Joseph A Bank, in Charlottesville and want to reflect on my experience so people will know to avoid this clothing company. I purchased two suits and decided to go with in house alterations. I was told I would receive a call when they were done, but that it would be no later than March 28. As of the 31st, I had received no calls, so had to call them myself to confirm the suits were in fact ready. Here is where it gets good! I arrived at the store today, April 1, to pick up my suits, and was immediately asked if anyone had called me about my alterations. Apparently, when I had paid for the alterations on my last visit to the store, the person checking me out did not charge me for everything I was supposed to be charged for. Mind you, I had already paid over $150 for alterations, and they wanted ANOTHER $80. Luckily, after sensing my displeasure with the situation, they waived the extra $80, and I proceeded to try on my suits. This is where it gets REALLY good! As I was trying on the jackets, I found that not one, but BOTH jackets had incomplete sleeve alterations! There were pins left in the cuffs, extra string hanging out all over the place, and one sides seam wasn't even completed! I pointed out the problem and the woman working very nicely told me that they would have them ready by one o'clock at the latest, and they would call me when I could come pick them up (about and hour and a half from the time I was currently there). Keep in mind, we have traveled an hour and a half each way to purchase these suits, this being the third trip (first to purchase, second for alterations, third to pick up after alterations). One thirty rolls around, and guess what....STILL NO COMMUNICATION! In the end, I returned to the store to find that alterations had been completed, and everything seemed in order. This was my first time shopping at Joseph A Bank, and I am extremely dissatisfied with the entire experience. I had been told by several people that this would be better than Men's Warehouse, but after my experience this afternoon, I promptly returned to Men's Warehouse to complete my needed attire. Just wanted to let anyone reading this know of my experience so hopefully you can avoid the headache I've had to endure in my dealings with Joseph A Bank. read more

One thing I would advise and have a follow-up question on is Suit Separates need to be more the norm as I wear a 50 jacket and 36pant. My experience with the staff, from sales to the manager, was among the worst I have experienced in a retail setting. No issues at the time of sale, but incompetence, missed dates, and outright lying over the course of three days leads me state unequivocally that I will never shop this store again. Just hung up with Debra about the alternations. She was the biggest help in the store in choosing, finding, and engaging my husband in the search, so that at the end not only did he buy the two pairs of trousers he wanted but also the hoped-for (by me) jacket which he badly needed. Listening to conversations around us, I came to the conclusion that the other two salespersons were also very helpful, and one was particularly kind with a young customer It was a pleasure, relatively relaxing, and reasonable. read more

Today I went to the store in Charlottesville VA to rent a tux. I shop there for most of my clothes but never again. They have no tux to see what you will be getting - could not get the computer up to show me what was available. They tried to sell me a tux and again had nothing to show me. I need to keep the tux for an extended time, a week, and they were going to charge me a crazy amount - more than what I could have bought a tux for... I said I was going to Men's Wearhouse and they said they use the same place to get tux from so no point in going there. I went anyway and very pleased five tux to choose from along with different color vest and ties and silks for the pocket, and even socks. someone there to help me choose and pricing and VERY NICE SERVICE COMPARED TO JOS A BANK!!! read more
