I used to do all of my menswear shopping at the Joe Banks in Mayfaire. I don't know what happened but the last several times in the store have been incredibly disappointing. They seem to go out of their way to not make eye contact with you when you come into the store. The store looks more like a warehouse than a men's clothing store, cardboard boxes stacked everywhere and on all the counters to the point where you can't even get to some items. Unfortunately, there aren't many options for men's clothing in Wilmington, I guess I will have to start shopping in Raleigh. read more

I want to say Myce was amazing. Professional, made us feel welcome & important, as we should coming to rent suits. Unfortunately- Myce was not there to originally fit us, as we met him later. We decided to give JAB a try over MW because bad previous experiences with them. We rented three suits for a family wedding. We were fitted originally by a gentleman who seemed to rush us from the moment we walked in. It was a so-so first impression, with me feeling I had to chase around employees to get help. We got an email to pick up our suits. We did so. I live 55 minutes from JAB as well. This is when we met Myce. All three suits needed to be altered, some more than others. HORRIBLE. I received an 11.5 shoe when I asked for an 8. C'mon. My jacket was hanging over my wrists, with the white undershirt not showing. My pants were extremely long, & they looked like an XXXL. I am a size 33 waist. I could have fit two of me in these pants. I also asked for a fitted pant & didn't get that. My white undershirt was an XL when it was to be a fitted shirt. The white Oxford shirt also had an orange stain on the collar- like a self tanner stain- and the sleeve had two holes in it located near the elbow. What a joke. My vest was also an XL & not the correct size. Literally nothing was right. Nothing. Myce had to remeasure me all over again. He did the same thing with the other family member. We were told to wait for email to pick up suits again. Another few days, & another 55 minutes to town, this is the second attempt. The other family members suit was correct- mine still was not. I received a size 10.5 shoe this time, still not my size 8! My vest was size incorrect, same size as before. I ended up having to go buy a white undershirt because theirs did not fit & I was told I couldn't get one that would fit. Either too bath or too tight. So I spent $60 at Kohls on top of this $260+ reservation. The female manager rolled her eyes every time I had to "complain" about something to Myce. He was very polite & understanding- I wish I could say the same for her. She NEVER ONCE helped or said a word- & I had to come in FIVE TIMES. 55 minutes each way, 10 times total. WHAT A FREAKING JOKE! After I went to pick up for what I thought was the final time- my shoes were still wrong! I got a size 9.5 instead of my 8s. AGAIN! I also did not have 2 white pocket squares that were to be in the bag with the socks and cuff links. The day of the wedding- I'm putting my pants on, & the stitching from where they shortened them was all bunched in the front. I didn't notice when I first tried on at JAB, but they had to be altered twice. How embarrassing & ugly. I told Myce when I first met him I would come & buy a suit from him because of how professional he was. Unfortunately for them, I won't. Not because of Myce, but because JAB let me down time after time. Thank you Myce for your above & beyond service- & shame on the older manager with glasses & the female manager. Trying to shop Jos. A Bank in Mayfaire is guaranteed to be an exercise in frustration at best, but typically a complete failure. Today was a great example. Walked in a couple of hours before closing. Two staff members, and only one other customer in the entire store. But nobody made any attempt to even acknowledge I had walked in. After 15 minutes of looking at sportcoats and still being ignored (even though I crossed paths with both staff members in the aisles and still no eye contact or greeting), I walked out and made a fairly sizable purchase at Belk. The selection is fine, and I've always liked clothing purchased from JAB. However, the staff at the store could not be more disengaged if they tried. With the exception of possibly one guy (I think his name is Myce and he seems to really take customer service and his job to heart), no one else seems to have any interest at all in actually helping the customer. It starts with being totally ignored when you first walk in the door and continues with being ignored as you walk around the store, perusing the racks of clothes. And God help you if you're directed to the dressing room and come out to be sized for alteration. They'll leave you standing in the corner, in their clothing and unable to walk out of the store, completely ignored while they tend to mindless activities despite knowing you'll be out and ready for marking in just a few seconds. And finding out your altered pants were ready for pickup a couple of weeks prior but nobody called or emailed to let you know is a bit of a pisser too. It gets harder and harder to shop there. Especially with Belk, Dillard's and Men's Wearhouse in town. JAB corporate should find more guys like Myce and fewer guys like the one who lazily calls everybody 'boss', as well as the rest who seem to be biding time until their next job starts. So my boyfriend was in our friend's wedding last weekend & the formal suits were at this location. Yay for rentals! While the store itself is kind of small, they pack a lot into it. Not only can you rent formal wear here, you can also purchase it, as well as fancy suits, shirts, pants, & ties. There's fitting rooms, thankfully, as Shawn had to try on his suit. The two salesman were friendly & very helpful, making sure Shawn didn't need any assistance. With Jos. A Bank being a "fine clothier", the prices are pretty steep; however, I did see some items on sale. I did overhear a salesman tell a customer that if they signed up for their e-mail, they would get coupons from time to time. Overall I'm pleased with our experience! read more

Worst experience I've ever had. Needed a new suit for a wedding. Bought a suit and they sent it out for tailoring (or so they said). After 2 weeks I call twice because the wedding is coming up. Finally, they call and said it's in....I drive 40 miles to pick up. They bring out the suit and hand it to me...I say I want to try it on. They look surprised at my request! I take the suit into the fitting room and realize, by the length of the pant legs, that it was never tailored! Put me in a bad situation...I got a full refund and will not go back. Ryan Logan was great. I waited until the week before a black tie wedding to get my suit ready. Walked in and Ryan got me fitted right away for one of the last black jackets in my size that they had in stock. The pants to match, however, weren't in so he called the stores in three different cities trying to locate them. He solved the issue by getting them priority shipping to the location of the wedding. Ryan's knowledge, patience, and problem solving was instrumental in accounting for my procrastination, I appreciate the entire team at JAB. read more

We bought a suit for our wedding and had it fitted to be tailored. We did this 4 months before our wedding, well beyond the "1-2 months" they originally suggested. We went back when they said it was ready and it wasn't because they hadn't tailored the legs. They assured us it was no problem they'd get them done right away and to come back the following Monday. We went back two weeks later - the pants still had pins in them. They weren't even touched. Mind you this was well beyond the original time they promised us. They apologized and gave a us a new date to come back, and again, we went back past the date they gave and AGAIN the pins were still there and nothing had been done. So basically we wasted 1.5 months waiting for the rest of the alterations to be done. We are now 2 weeks away from our wedding and scrambling to try to find somewhere else in town that will be able to get them done correctly and on time. The customer service reps solution: we can give you enough points to get you to a $5 gift card... THAT WILL NOT COVER THE ALTERATIONS THAT YOU NEVER DID. We definitely will not be back, nor will we ever recommend the use of Jos A Bank for suits or alterations again. read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR YOUR WEDDING. First complaint is the guys all got charged different amounts for their rentals and were told different reasons as to why even though everyone got the same thing. I bought a suit and was having alteration ls done to my suit. I started alterations 2 months before my wedding. After 4 rounds of alterations the suit still wasn't right and the last time I went to pick my suit up after waiting a week and a half for another round of alterations it hadn't even been touched. They gave me my suit and referred me to someone else 2 WEEKS before my wedding. Customer service was only willing to refund me for the alterations they weren't able to complete and refused to cover the cost of alterations where they referred me to. Essentially they let me get to 2 weeks until my wedding to say we can't do anything for me and refused to pay for alterations elsewhere. If you want a suit to fit you how it's supposed to for your wedding take your business elsewhere. read more

I needed some pants for an event a couple of days before Christmas. I realize the store was busy but these sales people couldn't have been more unhelpful. The person who was "helping me" acted like I was bothering her. She couldn't be bothered to help me find the particular pair of pants I needed even though I buy them often from this store. She suggested the store had been rearranged so they couldn't find anything. I went to Dillards and there I will stay as they were helpful and didn't treat me like I was a bother. read more

WOW what a disappointment. I came in to pick up my rental for my friends wedding and was talked to as if I had no common sense or understanding how rentals work. I only had to rent a shirt and a bow tie for the wedding so I figured they couldn't honestly screw this up? But to no avail it was. My shirt was way too big in the arms and pretty short in the length. So I made the comment about the issues to the older gentleman (who sized me in the first place) and his reply was that he could have a new one ordered to fix the issue with the sleeves but said there was nothing he could do about the length. Completely confused about how you can fix one issue and not the other considering everything claims to be tailor made, I asked how that was possible? His smart ass reply to me was they cant make the shirt grow. Now he has my attention and my tone has completely changed because he likes to talk to adults like they are children. I said, you measured the damn thing and decided to wait until 5 days before the wedding to bring my shirt in, I hope you have a way to fix it? His resolution was to order a new shirt in with the sleeves in a smaller length to which I was fine with until as I was getting ready to leave and he made another comment about how the new shirt's length will come in shorter than the original one I have already. So now I am livid because this leaves me no choice but to either wear a shirt that the sleeves are way to long and can't barely be tucked in or a shirt that fits in the sleeves but guaranteed to not stay tucked in. Now I get to look like the slob in my friends wedding with either my sleeves over my hands or my stomach hanging out my shirt. THANKS ALOT!!! I will never recommend this place to anyone. The older man in the store clearly wanted everyone to know he was in charge but has no business speaking to customers that way. He single handedly will be the reason no one I know will ever shop here. read more

It was very disappointing walking into a store where most people spend on average $500 and not one employee welcomes you or even helps you out. Not sure if it's because me and my boyfriend are younger but absolutely no one helped us or even acknowledged us. We had to find the suits ourselves then try it on with no help. One worker told us to look in the 42 sizes then when we finally found one, found him, and showed him he asked why we were looking there because it's no where near his size. Kind of ridiculous he says that then doesn't show us what sizes we should be looking at. I tried to look in an area for a size and a worker stood right in my way not moving even when she turned around and saw I was trying to look there. We eventually left and went to Men's Wearhouse on Oleander and they're amazing. Do not go to this Jos. A. Bank. unless you want to be extremely disappointed. read more

Came I'm here to see what they had to offer. I went in with a mindset of buying some Chelsea Dress boots and a couple other things. The employee I met with was kind but did not have enough knowledge on men's wear. Since the employee didn't really know about the Chelsea's I decided to go for a more known shoe, the oxfords. again not an idea of what I was asking for. Place was small. Saw a big fella in a suit laughing with another employee not really paying attention to the customers walking in. I literally had to greet myself. After walking around I decided to walk across the street to Menswear house. Not my first choice but definitely my first choice instead to JOS. I was treated right by a gentleman named Matthew where he took his time to measure me, and find shoes and a couple more dress shirts for me. If it wasn't in store he took his time to call their other store to see if they had it. Came out of MW happy thanks to Matthew. read more

Had to get suited for a tux rental for my brother's wedding. Had the GM (presumably) handle almost the entire process for myself, as well as the rest of the wedding party. The day we went to pick up our suits, that same gentleman had us try them on, and within a few seconds instantly declared all of our pants too short, as well as requested a few alterations be made to the jackets (I've never had a fitting where everyone's measurements were off). We were told to come back, although not to try them back on. I don't know if this guy has no idea what he's doing, or his seamstress is blind, but EVERYONE'S (including the Groom) tuxedo jackets AND pants were embarrassingly wide and baggy. I would say the suits were about a full size off for everybody...NOT how you would want to look on a very important day. For the price paid, (which was about $80 more than I've ever spent on a tux) this experience should not have gone so poorly. If you're in the business of making people look good, make sure you know what you're doing first. There are several other businesses in the area that have done a great job for several of my events. Won't be using this location again. read more
