I gave up on pain management docs for ~8 years because of my experiences here. I was shocked and appalled to be berated by Cabaret who would lecture me about what "real pain was" telling me "people in wheelchairs" knew "real pain" - the funniest part is that my mom's twin is a quadriplegic so telling me that people in wheelchairs are the only ones with real pain was rich coming from Cabaret.... I started bringing a family member with me at all times to appointments just because the way he spoke to me was so unprofessional, and they all agreed witnessed how he would berate, speak down to and invalidate anything I said, because to Cabaret since I didn't have a physical handicap, my pain wasn't valid to him - even though I had several autoimmune conditions with chronic pain as well as severe rheumatoid arthritis and degenerative disc conditions... After ~2 years of this I stopped seeing him altogether: I couldn't deal with graveling for help for months and receiving treatment here or there while enduring being talked to and treated in such a horrible way. I actually gave up on pain management docs for ~8 years because of experiences here... I powered through pain for so long I ended up with an TLIF spinal fusion with disc replacement due to severe central canal stenosis after going to ER for back pain, I was put in an ambulance for an emergency spinal surgery on a Sunday to prevent paralysis (I was riding my motorcycle through the pain of severe central canal stenosis that required ambulatory transfer and emergency spinal fusion surgery on a Sunday). I was fortunate to finally receive compassionate care from both a neurosurgeon and pain management doctor as recovered (located in Ventura). About a year after my spinal fusion: I needed a facet block and MBB RFA due to nerve pain that never resolved after the surgery. My quality of life is so much better - I feel like I am part of the living again. I hate medications and the side effects of them, but sometimes they are necessary, and sometimes injections or surgical procedures are also necessary for relief. Thankfully, now I see physicians who are compassionate and listen to both visible and invisible pain and will work to find the root cause of it - all while treating me with decency, like I'm a human being. read more

I have been seeing Cabaret since 2022. At that time I was seeking injections for painful joints. 5 minutes into the appt he told me I had fibromyalgia & injections wouldn't help. I begged him & he finally injected my shoulder. The next visit I begged him to inject my other shoulder, which he did after a lecture about fibromyalgia. He said my pain was due to PTSD, in spite of multiple positive MRIs. I've had 2 neck fusions, lumbar fusion, knee replacement & I just had a shoulder replacement a week ago. It was the 3rd NP at Cabaret's office that got my shoulder MRI after injections stopped working. The NPs were willing to inject my shoulders . It was completely destroyed bone on bone. I've since been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I've gone to other ortho docs for injections, because since I've been there I've gone thru 3 NPs & now a PA. My rheumatologist has sent him notes asking him to inject my SI joints, but the PA said no, it's a trigger point. Every new employee thinks I have fibromyalgia, so no injection. He refused to manage my pain after back surgery, which led to me being under medicated, since the orthos can't order as much. The Cabaret PA gave me a week of pain meds after my shoulder replacement, & said they'd order more . The pharmacy called them for clarification, & they didn't respond. So here I am, 1 week after total shoulder replacement, & no pain meds overnight & until whenever. I know he's a great doc--but he misdiagnosed me.i will add it was the 2nd NP who recognized my very swollen hands and sent me to a rheumatologist, so that was good. She also got an MRI of my back, and was going to call me to set up a back injection. That never happened. She quit & I fell thru the cracks. Went to see Dr Caberet for chronic pain from a motorcycle accident. My neck is fused and my lower back I wouldn't let anyone touch. After coming through a series of pain treatments and physical therapies Dr Caberet treated me with suboxone. I have been living pain free for several months after 11 years of living with constant pain. Caberet's moods can be sometimes unpredictable but he is a workable and well-meaning doctor. This guy pushed my appointment to a video call and later by 2 hours the day of because he was "out of town" and we proceeded to have a very uncomfortable telehealth appointment. He was extremely rude and offered no help to me in regards to a comprehensive pain management plan. He basically relegated me to being an addict and tried his best to convince me that suboxone is some type of miracle drug. Not many doctors remember your history and care about you. Dr Caberet is special. He knows you after the first visit and cares REALLY cares about your pain. He brought my husband back from a State of a depression, the type of depression that comes with over medicating. He was quite bluntly a "blob," living day to day. I went to Dr. Cabaret for back pain 1 1/2 years ago. He did a cortisone shot in L4 which really helped. However, I started having bad pain down my left leg and he did a cortisone injection at S1. I told him the pain was worse and he put me on pain meds. I went back and saw his PA, told her the pain is unbearable without the pain meds (Gabapentin), she told me I need to learn to live with it. No referral for further tests or anything to find out why I was worse. Went elsewhere and found out I had a cyst on my back that was cutting off the nerves in my spine. It's hard for me to believe these raving reviews are authentic. My experience with Dr Cabaret, and his staff, was COMPLETELY and, most unsatisfactory. I was a nurse for 35 years. I spent a great deal of time collecting my medical records, hospital surgeries and specialists, THREE. I made sure to deliver them to Dr Cabaret's office, long before the appointment; so he'd have plenty of time to review them. After waiting ONE HOUR past my scheduled time, he finally gets into my treatment room and, immediately starts raving about how good he is. He never reviewed my records/ history of NINE surgeries, numerous medical problems and doesn't address my chronic/ heightening pain at all! He spoke to my husband much more than me, the patient! I truly think that Dr. Joseph Cabaret's MD title could go a bit further, and also mean ' "Miracle-working" Doctor'. I had spinal surgery back in 2016 in Santa Barbara by an excellent surgeon, but was still suffering from constant, debilitating low-back pain up until 2019. I was referred to see Dr. Cabaret after not wanting to get another surgery. I saw him for a little over a year, with a few trial-and-error type tests. The final procedure I had was the one that worked. His determination to help me find relief was what I cannot thank him enough for! Great care! Went from seeing multiple drs for to just seeing him. And am on much few meds than before

Although not ready for Suboxone medication. I did know that I was seeing dr. Billy for a large hietal hernia that needed surgery. But I told dr. Cabaret I know I needed an epidural with sedation that my other dr. Did not do. So 1st vist 13 dec was a charm. He also tried this brace that took away immediate slouching and alleviated pain. Now waiting for authorization which normally a week. My back and stomach are working against each other. I've had 2 Nissen Fonduplications do to my barrettes disease or dysplasia plus that large hietal hernia so when you are constantly nuaseas and can't throw up you dry heave so my back is being jerked around finally 8 January I speak to dr. Shrinky but tell him now my sciatica is right where it doesn't need to be every step! I wanna die. So he calls and Dr Cabaret's office expedited in a timely manner like the making of a swiss watch on 14 jan I got epidural. I can walk. I feel it coming back now like it's not right I know my back I broke three times this by far had been 8 months getting worse. Stopped working my 3 part time jobs. So my PCP prescribes me half my normal dose and says for 1 month. So the kicker I see dr. Billy he cannot do surgery because I have a frozen abdomen the mesh created. So thorasic surgeon Dr. J. Wan has seen me and they are gonna try to go thru front but a thoracotomy which I get my lung deflatedtgey spread/break ribs 5%chance of making it thru 10% chance they can't fix! Then I see Dr. Albertstone and he wants to hear what is going on so then he looks at a bad image from 8/2019 I have a bad herniated disc which has not seem to be getting better but worse so after a clean image surgery. Why couldn't my other pain dr. see these test all done at CMH. I was pushing myself thinking I was crazy but got validation. But Dr. Cabaret never judged I don't like being the way I am. 60mg of oxycodone a day worked and when it did not I knew I had something seriously wrong but not believed that I was sick my inter al bleeding every week or 10 days iron infusions. I had to ask drs. I wanted images or go to ER. I feel if I was taken serious when I first herniated disc L-2 I would not have made this worse. But dr. Joe is great I don't have a pain dr now there hard to get into I'mlooking. If I could give Dr. Cabaret more stars, I would. I recently had surgery recommended to me for a rotator cuff problem that had created a significant amount of pain for me over the years. I wasn't thrilled with the prospect of surgery and asked Dr. Cabaret for his opinion. He scheduled an appointment to see me very quickly and assessed my condition in the first visit. After reviewing my radiology report and looking at his own ultrasound findings, he recommended a non-surgical approach to which I agreed. Within 24 hours, I was rid of the pain that had plagued my back and arm for years. He also recommended a couple of methods I could use at home to keep the pain from returning and, to his credit, they have both worked quite well. Rather than suggesting a treatment program that would have kept me coming back to the doctor time after time, he provided me with an effective and immediate remedy that restored my mobility and removed the pain.
